Poppy Blohm, a parts apprentice at Akra Equipment in Narragan, won John Deere's 2023 Apprentice of the Year award for Australia and New Zealand. She talks about her passion for broadacre farming, the value of hands-on training, and building relationships with growers.
I wanted a job that would give me training and give me something, whereas some of the other jobs offered in Narragan, you just learnt how to do something and you did it and that was your job. Whereas this, I'm actually learning and I'm gaining experience and I'm getting something from it. My name's Poppy Blom. I work at Akra Equipment in Narragan and I work as a parts apprentice. I just love, like, broadacre farming and it's just. I'm very passionate about it. My favourite part about working with John Deere is probably the grower relationships you make. The farmers are what makes all of our jobs. You know, we wouldn't have machinery if it wasn't for farmers.
And the winner of the past Apprentice of the Year for Australia and New Zealand is Poppy Bloom.
Coming here and meeting the guys from John Deere, it's just awesome and really reiterates. While I work for this company, to.
Be honest, didn't really have a stint for machinery and mechanics and that, but doing it, I just love it and I wouldn't change it, and it's just. It's awesome. I love my colleagues and everyone who supports me, it's just so great.
