Heine and Florian Stratton from LVD Bernard Kroner walk through John Deere's digital tools for farm equipment: machine connectivity, condition monitoring, and remote display access. The goal is cutting downtime and keeping tractors running.
The most important thing for farmers and contractors is the reliability of the machines. Quality is one of John Deere's four core values and nothing runs like a deer. However, we all know that there are situations when things don't work out and then it comes down to speed. For example, with fast spare parts, procurement, a repair, or even with professional guidance. Today I'm at a John Deere dealer. Your first point of contact on site. And I would like to talk to Florian Stratton from the company LVD Bernard Kroner.
Hello, Heine. Good to have you.
Hello, Florian. What solutions do you offer your customers in this area?
We offer our customers some digital solutions. Just come with me. The basic prerequisite is of course the machine connectivity. Most of our customers machines already have JDLink connectivity, so they are networked online with us as a dealer. And we can offer our customers several services like machine conditioning monitoring, machine performance analysis and remote display access.
Let's start with machine condition monitoring. How does it work and what opportunities does it offer?
First the customer gives us their consent through myjohndeer.com and then we're connected to that machine online. Then we can look at that machine, read error codes, see if that machine has a problem and if necessary, even send software to it remotely. If a problem does occur, the machine sends the error directly to our office via expert alerts. We can proactively stop work on this machine without the customer having to contact us, saving a considerable amount of time.
Keyword expert alerts, that is from reactive to proactive. How can a customer visualize this?
The network machines report to the workshop before a failure occurs. If engine oil pressure drops without the driver noticing, we get a message in the workshop and can actively address the cause of the error and localize the error accordingly. This saves customers downtime and increases machine reliability.
Another solution you mentioned earlier is machine performance analysis. Can you explain this to us in a little more detail?
Yes. In crop harvesting we can see the machine settings and make minor adjustments together with the driver to get the best out of this machine. The remote display access helps us. We can connect to the machine's display and can see what the driver sees to best advise him and get the most out of the machine. The next step would be after the crop harvesting, going through the complete analysis and documentation with the farm manager and advising them on their next year's new machine purchase.
Genius, Florian, thank you very much for the explanation here. I'll let you get on with your work for Now. Connectivity via JDLink offers enormous advantages. Let's take a look at remote display access. This allows us to support drivers in optimizing their machine from a distance. On the other hand, with expert alerts, we can minimize or even prevent downtime, machine downtime. And with the machine performance analysis, you can exploit the installed power of the machine. This allows us to reduce costs. And on the other hand, and this is the important thing, significantly increase the reliability of the machine. Now that's what I call a smart solution.
