Row units pick a large continuous stream of cotton that must be removed quickly to prevent plugging of the row unit. Moving the cotton out of the row unit is Step five Conveying. The conveying system efficiently moves cotton out of the row unit and into the basket or accumulator. The conveying system consists of a cotton fan to provide high speed airflow, an external duct for each row unit, and jet posts within the row unit. The cotton fan runs continuously while picking and sends a stream of air upward into the ducts and across to the jet posts. The air from the jet posts pushes cotton out of the row unit. The air moving up the ductwork pulls cotton into the basket or accumulator. Depending on the row unit model, there will be one or two jet posts inside the row unit.
