Two speakers explain SunSouth's John Deere apprenticeship program, which alternates between hands-on work and classroom learning. Participants gain real experience in agricultural technology while earning money and building skills for careers in the field.
So how the program works is basically two months on, two months off. You go and you work at your dealership because you have to be sponsored in order to be put through the program. But you go and work at the dealership. Like I'm in, I'm on my apprenticeship right now, my two month apprenticeship. So I'll be anywhere. I'll just be doing odds and ends around the shop. If a guy needs me out in the field working on cotton picker, a sprayer, eight Rs, you name it. I mean, if they need help, I'll be out there. When I'm not, I'm in the shop.
It's a great opportunity to get hands on learning and class experience as well. Going from in the class to your internship here. Being in the Ag Tech program taught me the fundamentals and components and how they work together. The hands on experience that I learned during the internship helped apply what I learned in the classroom. The Ag Tech program is a great opportunity for young people to get an education and learn a skill and have a job immediately once they're done with school. A really good training program. It's a really good career path for some young person that's interested.
