A farmer in central Southern England shares how the HDX Draper header improved performance on his John Deere S Series combine, boosting efficiency and crop handling on difficult terrain.
We're in central Southern England. Family farm, my wife in the office, my two sons work on the farm with me. We contract combine about 1800 hectares. At the moment we're running square 790 with a 40 foot HDX header. I've always been convinced of the Draper header system, but the HDX came straight out of the box and worked straight away. The HDX has definitely given us a performance lift with the S Series combine. We put it to work in one of our toughest fields, 80 hectares of oilseed rate when we first got it, and the performance through the dips and the bomb holes and on the banks was just fantastic. The feed is the main thing with the Draper belt, but the fact that it is hinged and it can cope with negative and positive geometry in our rolling ground is very important when harvesting oilseed rape. The grainsaver belt definitely helps to keep the crop in the machine. We along with our dealer have pulled the performance figures for the combine off of the John Deere operations centre and we had an increase with the standard Draper of 12%, then a further increase of another 12% once we went to running the HDX last year. So I believe There is a 24% increase on the HDX over the standard auger header.
