This is a YouTube video titled "The Colours of Your Land - Bruce Kirkby" featuring Bruce Kirkby discussing his family's farming history and practices in Australia. The content is a monologue or narrative about agricultural techniques, crop rotation, and adapting to challenging weather conditions, recorded in 2015.
I'm Bruce Kirkby from Koorwun Palatta. My father bought this farm in 1923. He was a grazier but he was a forward thinking man and so eventually he began to farm originally with a 1929 Model D tractor and he farmed it, my mother farmed it, myself and my sisters have farmed it and now myself and my wife are farming here and my family. Koi one's been a broad acre farm, wheat to wheat, back to back originally and then we gradually switched into rotations and now we've gotten from there. We're on controlled traffic and we are rotating with cotton, wheat, favor beans, canola, durum. So there's a fair mix in there. My dad has thousands of John Deere tractors. I always thought I was going to be a farmer right from when I was Boston size, but I never thought I was going to do anything else. Dad's harvester picks favourite beans and wheat. Australian farmers are unique because in this country we've got to get every dollar we can get out of the land. Working with the weather which seems to be getting more extre is forcing us to become better and better at what we do, actually allowing us to grow crops in very, very marginal conditions. We are forced to have a situation where our practices are second to none in the world and our world.
