This is a YouTube video titled "The Importance of Horsepower" created on December 27, 2022, featuring a single speaker, Matt Green from Sun South in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The content is an informative talk explaining the differences in tractor sizing and horsepower ratings, focusing on John Deere's 3 and 4 series tractors, their lift capacities, and suitable uses. The speaker aims to help viewers select the right tractor for their needs.
Hey guys, Matt Green here again with you from Sun South Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Wanted to spend a few minutes and talk to you a little bit about the difference between the sizing in the tractors. We have these questions a lot. You know, when you're picking out your tractor, you got to qualify on exactly what you're doing with it. So we like to talk to you a little bit more and figure out that we're making sure that you get the right piece of equipment for the job. First off, let's start at the three series and what I want to talk about is how John Deere rates their numbers. I don't know that you can see it right here. It's kind of hid the loader, but this is a 3025E. Okay, that's 3025E. As an echo, the way that John Deere reads that number and the way that it corresponds with the sizes is the first number being a three is the frame size. So it's a three series frame. And then we move on to the last two numbers are going to be 25. That's the horsepower. So this is a three series frame with a 25 horsepower engine and an E trim level. What that means is there's different trim levels just so in automobiles there's an E and an R and a D in the three. Okay, so there's different trim levels within this size. They're all the same size. The 3 Series offers an 1180 pound 300E lift capacity loader. So that's important. A lot of people when we're looking at size, we have to say, okay, are we doing a lot of loader work? Are we going to do a lot of dirt moving, things like that? A lot of questions come into play when we talk about tractor sizing. It's very important to realize what you're going to be doing with the tractor and the ownership period of the tractor is going to be. In most cases, if we sell you the right tractor, it's going to be a very long time. So we want to make sure that we narrow it down exactly what you're looking for in this area. We have found that the three series is probably this size as one of our more popular sizes. Because you can haul it with a half ton pickup truck, you can take it to the green fields out at the hunting club, you can do those things. It's capable of doing most every five foot implement. So this is our more popular size here in this area. Then we step up to our four series, which does give you a little bit bigger tractor. Again with the sizing. I don't know that you can see the actual numbers on the hood, but this is a 4044M. So that is a 4 series frame. If you notice the 3 and the 4, this is a larger frame series tractor. This again is a 4.044M. So that's a 4 frame with 44 horsepower and an M trim level. So this tractor is going to get you up to about that 15 to 1600 pound lift capacity. It's going to step you up to a six foot implement. So you're going from a five foot cutter to a six foot cutter, tiller, et cetera. You see, we like to put rear ballast weights on all of our tractors and that's for a couple reasons. First being the stability of the tractor. It's going to keep the rear end of the tractor down while you're lifting the load on the front of the tractor. And stability, ride comfort, things like that. We like to equip most of our tractors with canopies. You see, that just keeps the sun off of you. It gets really hot here in Alabama. Just keeps that down on those hot days. But the real moral of what we're trying to convey to you today is the sizing difference. If you can see here, the three and the four, there's a significant size difference. So what we want to do is make sure that when you're selecting your tractor, you realize the size differences first of all. And we implement the size differences to fit your needs. So again, come see us. If not at this location, we've got 21 throughout the Southeast. Sunsouth, one of our trained sales professionals. Glad to help you. We want to qualify you. We want to make sure you get the right equipment, the best ownership experience. Come see us, SunSouth. We'd love to do business with you.
