This is a YouTube video titled "Tips & Tactics: Laying Sod" containing a monologue or instructional talk about laying sod and types of turfgrass common in Dothan, Alabama. The speaker explains the different grass types, watering needs, and shade tolerance, providing practical advice for lawn care. The content is educational and focused on gardening or landscaping tips.
Also going to talk to you a little bit about laying sod. If you don't know what sod is, that's the grass in your yard. Most people in Dothan, Alabama, southeast Alabama are going to have centipede and that's about 90% of people. The other 9% are going to have St. Augustine and then another are going to have Bermuda or Zoysia. But the thing is, if you're laying, you can lay sod any time of year. A lot of people are laying it when it's warm and it's not necessarily like a tree or a shrub. And the fact that it's going to need a lot more water initially. So if you if right now it's June, it's almost July, so it's going to be 100 degrees today. If you lay sod out there, you're going to need to what for the first 30 days you're going to need to water it every day. You know, give or take a day here and there. If you miss, that's fine. But if it's not raining, you're going to need to water that, that stuff every day. Another question I get asked a lot is, do you have that grass that'll grow in the shade? Do you have that grass that'll grow in the sh. The short answer is no. There's a centipede. All the turfgrass, the centipede, St. Augustine, Bermuda, zoysia, which are the main ones, all love the sun. They'd rather be in the sun. Some of them will tolerate a little more shade. And the one that most people know of is St. Augustine, it will tolerate a little more shade. Zoysia will also tolerate some shade. But always caution people. That's not to say that, hey, this grass loves the shade. None of them love the shade, but some will tolerate it a little better than others. And if you're having to make a decision between St. Augustine or Zoysia for a little bit shadier area, always most people are used to St. Augustine. Zoysia, in my opinion, is a better turf grass for that situation, simply because you don't get the disease issues that you have with, with St. Augustine. But if you got a shady area, you can plant grass, sod, turf grass, as always, your St. Augustine. But again, if it the more sun you can get it, the.
