This is a YouTube video titled "Tips & Tactics: Mosquito Plants" containing a monologue by JD from Dothan Nurseries recorded on September 20, 2022. JD discusses various plants such as lemongrass, citronella geranium, marigolds, and herbs that naturally help repel mosquitoes and other bugs in gardens and yards.
Hey, this is JD At Dothan Nurseries. Again, quickly going to talk about some plants that help keep bugs away. The two I'm going to talk about specifically, this is lemongrass right here. And this is a citronella geranium. People call it mosquito plant. And they're both just heavily scented plants. The lemongrass smells like lemons. The citronella plant smells like citronella, like the candle you would buy. And it's just kind of a natural way in your yard to help keep the mosquitoes away. It works a little bit on flies and that type thing, but it's really, really for the mosquitoes. Most people do, they'll get a little pot, put a couple of them in there and keep it on their back porch where they're going to be hanging out and cooking out that kind of thing. But those really do believe it or not, help keep mosquitoes away. Another thing with bug plants, we'll get people doing gardens and they're wanting to keep bugs away. People plant marigolds is one that helps keep bugs off the tomatoes. Then we have all kind of herbs, these heavily scented herbs like rosemary, lavender and the mints. All those help keep flies and bugs away out of your yard. But specifically, like the marigolds for tomatoes and then the other herbs just for. They keep all kind of bugs away. But the more heavily scented, the better. And the two that work the best on mosquitoes are the citronella plant and the lemongrass.
