Troy McMahon | John Deere - 2021 Technician Winners

Troy McMahon, a parts interpreter at RDO Equipment in Tasmania, won the 2021 Parts Technician of the Year award for John Deere CNF. He talks through his daily work with customers and receives a testimonial from forestry professional Paul Richards about his professionalism and dedication.
I'm Troy McMahon. I'm a parts interpreter for RDO Equipment in the Launceston branch. I started as a parts interpreter back in 2007, then moved from trucks into the agricultural and construction industry. I've spent the last two years with RDO, Pittman and John Deere. Typical day start at 8am Come on in. Freight normally rolls in somewhere between 8:30 and 9:30. Unpack freight, go and receipt the freight in and try and catch the earliest freight out as possible. To get customer service up the northwest coast and down to Hobart, we'll have customers either ring us or come into the branch. They will give us machine details. We will then proceed to look them up on the computer and give the customer price and availability on what it is they're requesting. Predominantly, our customers are cnf. At the moment, it's predominantly forestry. Customers range from contractors all the way through to big business. We've had a couple of emails come through and phone calls, either to ourselves in parts or to our bosses just singing our praises. So, yeah, it's nice to hear feedback like that. I've been dealing with Paul since I started here. He's an easygoing fella and he's just a genuine, genuine sort of bloke.
My name's Paul Richards. I work in the forest industry here in Tasmania. I've known Troy for two years, since RDO came to Tasmania. He's very thorough. He's like a dog with a bone when you give him a hard task looking up paths. He's been excellent to deal with. Troy's role as a parts interpreter is critical to what we do. I wasn't surprised at all when Troy won the award. He's very thorough with what he does. He cares about what he's doing.
The award that I won was the 2021 Parts Technician of the Year for John Deere CNF. It hadn't sunk in for a long time. It's starting to sink in now. It just means everything just to be recognised for the job that you're doing. Just knowing that you've helped a customer get what they need to get their machine back up and running makes you feel good about yourself, that you've achieved what needed to be achieved without giving the customer more downtime with their piece of equipment.
Sam.
