This is a YouTube video titled "Welcome to the John Deere European Technology Innovation Center in Kaiserslautern - Episode 1" featuring Stefan Stahlmecke, the director for precision agriculture in the region. The video, recorded in March 2020, provides a guided tour and overview of the various engineering and development teams working on precision agriculture technologies, including software, hardware, sensors, control systems, and satellite navigation for agricultural equipment.
Hi, my name is Stefan Stahlmecke, I'm the director for precision agriculture here in this region. And welcome to the European Technology and Innovation center here in Kaiserslautern. So let's take a quick walk and I'll tell you a little bit more about who we are and what we do in this building. Let's go. So in this building we have different groups that design and develop products for the precision agricultural business. For example, we have embedded engine who program software for our displays which our customers can use to control the hundreds of functions in our large egg equipment, such as tractors and combines and forage harvester or sprayers. We also have hardware engineers, systems engineers, physicists and architects who design our near infrared sensor, a sensor that allows our customers to measure in constituents like a starch or moisture in forage or grain. As an example, we also have a group of embedded and mobile developers that program little applications that help our customers to manage their day to day business on their farm. As well we have controls engineers. So a large ag equipment is pretty complex and those control engineers try to automate as many functions as they can to make it easier for our customers to operate those large ag equipment. And then last, not least in precision ag, it's all about precise placement. And so we have engineers that design and test algorithms for our global navigation and satellite system. And those satellite system and those satellite navigation systems allow us to to place our large egg equipment into an accuracy of plus minus two and a half centimeters. Pretty amazing, pretty accurate on the field. So with that, again, welcome to the European Technology and Innovation center here in Kaiserslautern and yeah, enjoy the rest of the tour.
