What to Check Before Operating a John Deere Zero-Turn Mower

Cole, a service technician at Sun South Bluesdale, walks through the safety checks to do before running a John Deere zero-turn mower: oil, fuel, safety switches, brakes, and deck settings.
Hey, guys. This is Cole, service technician at Sun South Bluesdale, and I'm going to be showing you what to look for before you start your mower and before you cut grass first. It's always good to check your oil. There's the full mark right there. And you always wipe it first because it's always moving around. So we'll check it again. And this one's to the full mark, so we're good there. You never want to run it without oil. And then the next thing, we're gonna make sure that our safety switch is there, which is this seat switch here. If this isn't plugged in, it's not gonna start because it's just not going to. And then we'll get up here. And this is your fuel gauge. And this has got almost three quarters, so we're good on fuel. We're going to also make sure that the brake is engaged because there is another safety switch here that if it's not engaged, it's not going to crank. So always make sure your brakes engaged. Then we'll. We can check the deck. We're going to unlock it, and then we'll move it to. Well, say if you want to cut grass at two and a half, and then one. Lock it, release it down, lock it back. And then when you go to start your mower, this is the choke. You bring your choke up until it cranks or until you hear it fire and you can push it back. This is your throttle, and this is your blades. So you engage the blades here, and that's. That's really a. Unless you want to check your tires, too, which these don't have your thing. And these are twills, so they don't. They're not filled with air. You also want to make sure that your spindles are good and greased up. There's a grease fitting right here on all. This one has three spindles. So on all three spindles, you want to make sure those are good and make sure your deck is cleaned off so it doesn't lock up on you. The belt is good. It's good and tight. You got to make sure that's. Your belt is good and tight. And that is pretty much it when it comes to what you need to know before you start cutting grass on your mower.
