This is a YouTube video titled "Where to grease your tractor" created on October 3, 2023. It features Tim Osborne explaining the types of grease, grease guns, and the specific grease points on John Deere equipment, providing a practical guide on proper maintenance for tractors and related machinery.
Hi, my name is Tim Osborne. I work here at the sun south in Clanton, Alabama. Today we're going to be going over grease points and certain greases to use in certain applications. And also the variations of grease guns that we have right now. I have two examples of grease guns. I have the normal one that you can get from the John Deere SunSouth Dealer. It's a pistol grip manual grease gun. And then you also can get the battery cordless one from the John Deere dealer. Also, there's two different kinds of grease pretty much. We have the general purpose grease which we usually use on loaders, tie rod ends, U joints, anything like that. And then we also have the heavy duty grease which we usually use on large equipment like skid steers, bush hogs and other widely used pieces of equipment. Now we'll go here and I'll show you where we're going to use a John Deere 3032. And we will go over all the numerous grease fittings on these machines. The most common grease fittings we have on these pieces of equipment are the loaders. Any pivot point will have a grease fitting and it requires greasing daily, if not weekly. It depends on how long you use a machine or how often you use it. One of the most forgotten grease fitting is on the front axle down here where it pivots. It usually never gets greased and it will cause premature wear and sloppy axle. And then of course, on the back of the machine, grease fittings on the rear hitch and also on each final drive on most of your bigger tractors. Now I'll demonstrate how to properly install a grease cartridge into a grease fit grease gun. You'll unscrew the drum and then pull the plunger out. You'll grab your John Deere grease that you use, take one end off, slide it in there, and then you'll pull this end and screw it back in and release the plunger and you're ready to go. And on this grease, on my cordless grease gun I have what they call a quick lube, which is a pretty much a fancy attachment for your grease gun. You'll squeeze it, put it onto the grease fitting, and then you'll pump it until you see grease start coming out of the joint. And this is everything you need to know to grease your piece of equipment.
