Zona de Compressão Colhedora de Algodão

Francisco Jimenez explains how the compression zone works in cotton harvesting machines. The pressure plates, grid bars, and spindles work together to prepare cotton for picking in this mechanical process.
Prior to being picked, the crop must be compressed. In step one, the gathering components work together to funnel the crop into the row unit. In step two the cotton plants will now enter the compression zone where the crop will be compressed in preparation for picking. The width of the compression zone must match the length of the spindle so the spindles can completely penetrate the crop during picking. The compression zone is formed by pressure plates and grid bars. The pressure plates are adjustable and form the outer wall to compress the incoming crop. Pressure plates are spring loaded flat steel panels that hinge at the front and keep the cotton pressed into the spindles. The grid bars are narrow horizontal bars spaced evenly apart and are fixed in place to form the inner wall of the compression zone. Spindles reach through the openings between the grid bars to pick the cotton. Scrapping plates increase spindle contact with immature bowls without restricting plant movement through the picking zone. Working together the compression components prepare the crop for pick.
