Summer McStravick uses Flow Dreaming to explore why bodies break down, separating temporary tiredness from chronic burnout driven by fear and scarcity thinking. The episode covers energy cycles, how fear pushes us to overwork, and includes a visualization to help you listen to what your body actually needs.

Flow Dreaming. It's a show where we talk about the power of your mind to change your world around you, to literally affect the fabric of your reality. We talk about this feeling of hope and joy and relief. And that is what being aware of your flow does. It gives you a feeling of power again in your lives. And that is what being aware of your flow does. It gives you a feeling of power again in your lives. Breathe. It is the feeling that you bring forward. It is your emotional connection that really sets the tone for what is going to be happening to you and for you. And you know that feeling, when you touch it, it just spreads through you. I'm Summer McStravik, and welcome to another episode of Flow Dreaming. Hi, it's Summer. And a quick request before we jump into the show. If you like this podcast, the number one reason Flow Dream has grown is because of your reviews. People rely on your opinion, and frankly, they often misunderstand Flow Dreaming. The only way to correct that is through you leaving a few words about the program. So pop over to itunes or your podcast app and write a review. It means so much to me when you do. Now onto the show. Hey, everyone. Welcome to Flow Dreaming. Today. So happy to be with you. We're going to spend this hour or less, wherever I end up, to be honest, talking about Body Breakdown and your own personal energy, right? The fuel inside you, how you allocate it, how you give it out, how you preserve it, how you nurture it. So I decided to do this topic today because right now I am tired. I have to tell you, it's the day after Halloween. I was out late with my kids. There was candy, there was parents over late. My daughter had a sore throat. I woke up with it this morning and I looked at my to do list and I thought, oh, boy, sure would be nice just to take a day off and rest. So why am I not doing this? Why am I actually here recording with you? Why am I not nurturing myself? Or am I? This is what we're going to explore today. I'm going to help you see this from the perspective of energy regulation, when you push, when you don't, and how to better modulate your own life. And this topic is really close to my heart because it's something that I have been working on. And I mean working in a good way, fun way, but working diligently, seriously, thoughtfully for at least the last year, if not two years. Many of you who listen to this program, you guys are overachievers, constant. Go, go. You know, I Can do all of this myself. I can't rely on anybody else. I have to get it done. I'm the only one who can get it done. I know how a lot of you are, and I'm speaking to you today. How do you maintain your body integrity even when you have a spirit that really drives you? Like this? Right? How not to feel upset at yourself, angry at yourself, how to be gentle with yourself, how to pace yourself, how to not be afraid to pace yourself. Right. That's a little insight right there. How to not be afraid to pace yourself. So that's what we're going to be covering. A little housekeeping though, before we jump into the topic. If you're new to flow Dreaming, big smooches and hugs. Hello. Maybe you thought this was a podcast about meditation or yoga or, you know, vinyasa flow. I know I'm always surprising many of you who find this for the first time. You're like, what is flow dreaming? Is this like lucid dreaming? So the best way to understand it all is go to my website, flowdreaming.com Flow Dreaming is a technique. It's a process for communicating with the universe, communicating with your own heart, communicating with life. It's a means for manifesting. It's a way to go deeper, get in touch with your own empathic self. It's a philosophy, it's a way, a whole way of looking at how the universe is structured, understanding how it works and fits together and is made, understanding our part in it. So obviously I can't explain this all in just one podcast. That's why I have over 500 episodes of flow dreaming out there in the world right now. You can find roughly 30 those at a time on itunes or your local podcast, whatever you're using to get them. You find the rest of those episodes in the premium archives and you can search by topic. You can just listen to episodes about money, for instance, or just listen to episodes about empathic intuition and developing that. Whatever you like, just go to the website. You'll find all the great ways to listen as well as where all of these different subjects past archives are located. So do check that out. I talk about flow dreaming the technique, but I also talk about flow dreaming the philosophy. Okay, housekeeping is done. Official. Let's get in to this concept of body breakdown. So as I mentioned, I feel low energy right now. You know, my throat is scratchy and as I got my microphone all ready and I thought, oh, gosh, you know, I have to really get clear with myself. Do I want to do this or don't I? Because if I'm showing up right now to my work, which is to talk to you, to teach you, to help you, that is my job. I made a life's mission be around this. If I show up with a sense of resistance, a sense of I don't want to do this, you guys are gonna feel it, right? We don't kid anyone. That's one of the principal ideas of flow dreaming. We think we're kidding other people, we think we can fake our way through, but in reality, we're not kidding soul. So I had to get really clear. Do I want to be here? Do I want to connect with you? Is it valuable enough for me to share with you while I'm in this state, which you don't often see because I often come in very bubbly and ready to roar, you often don't see me like this, a little quieter, you know, clearing my throat a little. So the answer was, yes, I do. I want to be here. I want to be talking with you. I didn't record a show for last week and I miss it. And not only that, but I think sharing with you what I'm experiencing is that valuable that I could give 45 minutes to sitting down and doing this. Okay, that's the energy you feel from me. Now, how do I square this with myself? I'm giving you the example of me here because I know this is what you are doing in your life. Every time you say, oh, I'm supposed to be at that PTA meeting tonight and then I have to pick up the kids from Girl Scouts and I just don't want to do it. And yet I can't. Not because then I'm a bad mom and I can't be there for my kids or I need to get all these emails out to the people in my group and if I don't do it on deadline and you just push, push, push, push, push. It's like you're pushing yourself through a garlic press. You know that feeling of, I'll just keep squeezing until there is no more to squeeze. That's not the way that you reach your stated goal of, I'm living in a place of peace, alignment, ease, abundance. It's the question of do the ends justify the means? And you have decided, yeah, they do. Body breakdown, overdrive, exhaustion, they're all going to get me to that state of nirvana. Speaking of nirvana, do you think Buddha would tell you you've got to do that to reach nirvana? No. Nirvana begins with a state of ease and alignment and grace and being able to take your foot off the damn pedal. So why don't we? Why? Well, I hinted at it earlier already. There's this little thing called fear. Fear. If you don't do this, you're not going to get there. If you don't take care of that, this other thing won't happen. You'll never reach this place unless you do. You fill up everything to supposedly get there. I know this model. It's the if I work really hard, I will succeed model. And a lot of you, I know how you are. You just want to push, push, push. You want to force it and make it happen. You want to make that state of ease through your state of burnout and frustration. Because fear is saying to you, you have to, have to, have to. You have to do everything. You have to meet your goals, you have to meet these deadlines. You have to, have to. If you don't, you're going to collaps something wrong with you. You don't meet your goals and you don't get that prize and you don't get that raise and you don't. Do you hear that? Languaging. This is never spoken in your mind. It's rather felt. It's felt and we can confuse that with our heart speaking. That's not your heart speaking. That's your fear speaking. It's originating from someplace much deeper inside of you, lower down, right down there in your solar pan plexus, your root chakra. It's that part of you that's saying I'm trying to survive. And that's where I'm still caught. I am caught in survival. That's the part that's speaking. How do you change that? How do you move away from that into a new state? This is where you use flow. This is where you start to get very clear. Oh, I'm here, I'm in this state. I don't want to be here, I don't want to be in this state. And so you ask yourself, what state of mind of being do I want to be in instead and why am I not allowing myself to be in it? So I want to pull back for a second and talk to you about energy cycles, energy cycles. When you find that you're in this state of being, this push exhaust, I have to, I'm being fear driven to get to a supposedly ease filled and grace filled end. You're in a larger state. You're in a larger cycle. You are in a pattern that somehow you've become dependent on over the years, somehow you've made this agreement with the universe. If I do this, I'll get that. If I go into pain and suffering, I'll be rewarded with ease and grace. What? In fact, that's a message we hear everywhere. If I go into pain and suffering, I'll be rewarded with ease and grace. It's a very western culture theme. And here you've taken it, I've taken it, we've all taken it and internalized it and made it a very personal theme. Yes, I'll work hard. I'll grind myself to the bone. I watched my dad work 14 hour days as that security guard or that factory worker. That's how it's done for the good end of supporting the family. Yet here you are thinking to yourself, I can uplevel out of this. Now, this is not a theme I want to perpetuate either in my life or to the next generation. Now, how do you differentiate if you're in that theme versus what I'm doing right now? Right now I'm recognizing that, yeah, my body is talking to me. It's saying, give us some rest. You kind of had a long night, right? We're fighting off this sore throat and I go, I hear you and I'm going to take care of you and I'm going to finish up this one thing and I'm going to clear all these other things off my list. And that's frankly what I've spent the morning doing. Canceled a staff meeting, pushed back another deadline. I'm making space for myself because this is how I want to live day to day. I always want to feel I have space for myself. Space for my body, space for my heart. If I've constructed a life that I can't create space for myself, I, in my opinion, have corrected. Excuse me, have created an incorrect life. I'm the only one creating this life of mine and I've created it incorrectly. If I can't create space for myself, I've done something wrong and I need to figure out what that is. So the rest of my day after this podcast, I'm getting together with my mi schoolers, teaching them. And then I'm having some neighborhood kids over, they're working on their robots with my son. I get to chill out, relax a bit, let them play, build their robotics. Done. Around six o', clock, my husband's making dinner. I get to crawl in bed and watch the news. For me, I'm reaching that state of balance. I'm doing a little as opposed to canceling the whole day. Because I can. I can do a little. I just don't need to push myself through it. Right? Don't need to push myself through it. I'm also recognizing that sometimes there's a lot going on, sometimes there's a little going on, and I'm making those adjustments as I move through these days, these hours, these variations in my energy. This is completely different than robotically hustling through it all until you go into complete breakdown, which is the cold, the flu that lasts three weeks, won't go away, which is you finally getting a vacation that you're too exhausted to take, and you get sick the second day you're there. Right? We've all been this person before. Question is, how are you handling it now? What is your body breakdown telling you? Is it telling you, hey, fold back a little, slow down a bit, little too much, got to adjust something here. Or is it telling you you do this all the time. We're in a constant state of this. Were so much in a constant state of this, you forgot what it feels like to not be in this constant state. So for me, I am learning. I've spent the last couple years learning, when do I pull back? If I pull back, what parts do I want to pull back? Which pieces really should I get through? And which pieces can I let go? Which pieces can I let go? Ask yourself that. Which pieces can I let go? Notice what comes up inside you. What feeling comes up when you ask that? Do you get fear coming up or you can't let go of any? Everything will fall apart. You can't let go. You can't let go. Notice what's saying in you, what you can't let go of. If you let go, you'll just be lazy again. If you let go, notice that that's the lack cycle, pure and simple and blunt. That is your lack cycle. That is your fear cycle, telling you if you do that, something terrible will happen. And you're projecting lack. Of course, you can't let yourself relax, pull back, when that's how you truly feel inside. If you do, because then you're just staying home in bed, feeling guilty, feeling upset, feeling mad at yourself, feeling in fear, feeling like, I don't want to think about it. I'm just going to block it out of my head. Remember, flow. Your flow is listening. What is your flow? Your flow is that energy stream of you. It's who you are, who you've been, who you're becoming. Next, it's you. It's your life reflecting back at you imagine if everything around you was a reflective surface. A mirror, a relationship mirror, your computer screen, your emails mirrors, your kids mirrors, your partner, lack of partner. Mirror what they're mirroring. That's a tough word to say. What they're mirroring back to you is what you are expecting, what you are anticipating, what you're giving out, how you're behaving, how you're interacting. Your feelings. That's what they're responding to. In flow, we learn to change our inner feelings. We change our inner state so that all those things that mirror back to us are mirroring back our highest, best, most balanced, most generous, most authentic, most effective, most kick ass selves. Now, what happens when you stack time into this, right? All the seconds and minutes and hours that are flowing by, all of this stuff is being put together for you to encounter. And that stuff isn't just random. A random life would be crazy different. You'd go to a new job every day. You'd wake up with a new partner by your side every morning. You'd see new kids in your house every moment. You'd be in a new house every moment, right? If the world was truly random, you'd have clothes one day, no clothes the next. You'd have nothing would make sense. Yet there is order, there's assembly, there is continuity. What I started yesterday is like a ball that I threw at a batter. That batter is me. In the future, when will I receive that ball? Where is that ball traveling through? What's impacting that ball as it reaches me, my future self. That is what flow dreaming is all about. That ball, your life, all the things you do and feel, passing through time to connect with you, to reveal to you those things you're wanting, you're asking, you're looking for. Manifesting, creating is about ongoing, continuous emergence into who you really are and what you want to receive and drink out of life. Therefore, it requires ongoing interaction from you. What you do every single day, how you feel every single day becomes what you manifest, right? I'm really driving that point home. Because if you're in a state of body breakdown, if you're in a state of overwhelm or stress, and you're saying, this is the ball that I am pitching, my future self. Boy, if I was you, that future you, I'd want to run and hide. I'd say, no, stop, please, I've had enough. It's not working. That's not going to get us where we want to go. Some days you will have to push through things. And if you do them on occasion. If you pull that one long night finishing up that great big project for work, that's awesome. You've got stamina, you've got perseverance, you've got focus, right? How did it make you feel? If you are resenting doing that, it probably means you're doing it way too much. If you're doing it and you're ending up with a feeling of yeah, we pulled that off and woo, go team or go office or go family. That means you challenged yourself and you aced it and you put in the extra that you needed to get there. But if it's happening all the time, if it's happening constantly, that other pattern I described, then that is you operating from a state of ongoing and constant lack. That is what causes breakdown. That's what causes breakdown. And I'm certainly not one to say you will never get sick if you're in flow, right? I know where this sore throat came from. My daughter brought it home, she's had it for two days. But what do I want to do with it now that it's been gifted to me? I'm going to look at it like, oh, this is my opportunity to crawl in bed at 6 tonight and watch some news, right? We've got some awesome presidential elections coming up. I'm sure there's some juicy stuff on television I can enjoy. Relax through this. I want to be in peace through my sore throat. Seriously, I want to be in a state of peace and ease while my body is experiencing this. You guys follow. I hope this helps you understand my. My intention, my goal for today was to help you know and see the difference between body breakdown that is a result of just you needing to pull back a little, take care, happens from time to time. Normal part of human experience versus the kind of body breakdown that's brought on by ongoing continuous fear based, lack based thinking. If you can figure out that distinction, then you are miles ahead. And it's again not enough to just know it in your head, you need to know it the next time you get into body breakdown. That's where you're really going to understand if you know it or not. You'll be able to say, oh, I get it. Or ooh, you know what I'm feeling this crazy urge to keep going and push and I'll feel bad and guilty if I don't. And hmm, I'm starting to think I might have a bigger pattern here. Wouldn't it be brilliant to see that? Do you know what the result of you having that kind of awareness would be right, you can kind of feel it. You would end up with a mellow, stress free, productive, focused, flow filled life. That's my aim. That's where I'm going. That's where I want you to go too. It is available for you. It's there for you if you choose it, if you take it, if you don't. Go ahead, just stay in that body breakdown. Stay in that state of being. Flo will continuously answer you, it will share back with you. It will mirror back with you until the day when you say enough. That's its job, to mirror back to you what you give to it. Your job is to wake up to the, to the feelings inside of you, your emotions. And if they're telling you I don't like this, that's all Flo is trying to get you to hear. Oh, you don't like it? Great. What are you gonna do about it? And that's where you go into your mind tripping and your patterns and your ceilings and all that stuff. Great, wonderful. You found it. Let's handle it. Let's handle it. And you can, I know you can. I teach hundreds, thousands of you how to handle this. How to shift into this new way of thinking and how to shift out of the lack cycle. How to shift into the state of ease grace. So that's what I'm sharing with you today. So Flow dreaming is not meditation. It is not creative visualization, nor is it hypnosis or affirmations. If you've already been taught some of those modalities, please just set them aside in your head. Allow yourself to experience something different. Flow Dreaming is about strong Focused emotion. It's about getting into your heart. We do tons of emotional cleansing, releasing, healing. We make your heart be kind of an open valve, just like it's a valve in your body right now that pumps in, you know, used up blood and reoxygenates. It, makes it clean and sends it back out around all of your cells. We do the same thing emotionally with flow and with flow dreaming. We create pure, strong, focused, communicative meaning. It communicates emotion. We do this in a state of flow and there's been many, many articles, books published on flow psychology. What it is, what it means, what state you get in. We couple that with a kind of non physical understanding. We take it out of the realm of science and we elevate it into the realm of spirit. Where we recognize flow is the larger organizational force of our life. Right? It's the grand net, the braid of time and people and events that are all that's being put together for us moment by moment. Remember that picture with the ball? You connect into your own flow. You connect into this pure state of alignment. Who you are, where you're going. You're emotionally open and communicating and you know what you're doing, you're actually creating. You are manifesting. Because remember how I said, whatever you're experiencing is what you're actually creating. If you can experience now that state of being that you want your life to evolve into, you are actually evolving your life into it. In manifesting, there is no waiting game. You don't play any kind of waiting game at all. You start being it. You be it more and more and more. You allow your life to swing around and events and people and things to shape up to reflect this thing that you're being. And the more you be it, the more it becomes until you and your life are completely synced. So whatever you experience in your state of flow is what your life experiencing with you. Your flow is experiencing with you. It's hearing you, it's listening to you, it's saying, oh, so these are the blueprints. Oh, this is what you really want. Great, give me some more of that. I would love to go out and align some things up with that. So now close your eyes with me and let's get into flow together. I like to take a nice deep breath and relax, get solid. I breathe all the way down to my abdomen, hold it and release, letting my shoulders drop. I roll my neck, my jaw relaxing. I feel good at peace in flow. Relax and notice my body. What state is my body in right now? Does it have energy? Does it feel tired? Is it telling me it wants me to pull back? Pull back? Those reins go a bit slower. I notice the energy that runs through my body. I pretend I imagine I can feel them like lines of light circulating through me just as my blood is circulating. If my body is at all in breakdown and notice how I feel about that. Frustrated, impatient, bummed out. I feel like I can't afford it, too much to do? Or do I feel gentle with it? Do I want to just rock my body like it was a baby? Say, I'll take care of you. What do you need right now? You need some good cleansing juices, nice hot shower. You want to lay in bed for a while? You feel like going for a walk and stirring up some of those toxins to purge, release? What do you need right now, body? I want to give that to you. You're in breakdown. I hear you. I acknowledge you. I respond to you. How does your body feel in response to that? Does it feel heard? Does it feel seen? Is it catching your attention? Like what? You're. What, are you talking to me? Are you actually talking to me? You're not just driving me and pushing me, you're actually talking to me, Communicating with me, sharing with me, acknowledging me, loving me. What do you say back? Yeah, I'm loving you, body. You're all I've got. You and me, babe. All the way to the end. What do you need? What am I doing wrong? Tell me, teach me, show me. Because I'm going to fix that for you. Listen, what is it saying? Now take that information and acknowledge it. Deeply acknowledge it. Make a promise, give a response, something real that you'll really do right now. And when you finish, go ahead and open your eyes. Returning from flow. Now, that flow dream may surprise some of you who are used to going on a stream or out into space, getting aligned to this kind of greater spiritual thread. I also use flow to get in touch with the flow of my own body. Right? My body is a physical thing, yet it's not frozen in time. It's changing. It's growing. Every second, new cells are being formed. Old cells are dying. Right now I've got immune cells that are attacking whatever virus has been playing with my throat. I'm acknowledging my body as this living, breathing, moving instrument. Where are you going next, body? I can see ahead for you. And with you. I know how I want you to be and know how I want you to feel. I can feel the flow of that. That is what we did in that flow dream. We got into your body flow. Right? Body flow. So I hope it helped. I know I feel pretty good right now. I feel relaxed. I feel focused. I know my workday will be closing up here in about an hour, two hours at the most. It's a great feeling. I feel lucky that I've been able to create a life like this. But I know it's more than just luck. I've cultivated myself toward this day after day, month after month, year after year. I have earned this. And you can earn it, too. You just start if you've already started. Keep going. Just keep walking. Keep walking in your flow. And with that, I'm going to say blessings to you all, my love to you all. May you all be very extraordinarily healthy, both physically and emotionally. And I'll talk to you all again next week with another episode of Flow Dreaming.
