#526 Free From Resistance...and Learning to Embrace
7 Feb 2017 · 38 min
Summer McStravick explores how habitual resistance creates more of what you don't want, using her own avoidance of Facebook Live as an example. She guides you through a flow-dreaming exercise to feel and release resistance, then teaches how to notice and replace resistant statements with receptive ones.

Flow Dreaming. It's a show where we talk about the power of your mind to change your world around you, to literally affect the fabric of your reality. We talk about this feeling of hope and joy and relief, and that is what being aware of your flow does. It gives you a feeling of power again in your lives. And that is what being aware of your flow does. It gives you a feeling of power again in your lives. Breathe. It is the feeling that you bring forward. It is your emotional connection that really sets the tone for what is going to be happening to you and for you. And you know that feeling, when you touch it, it just spreads through you. I'm Summer McStravik, and welcome to another episode of Flow Dreaming. Hi, it's Summer. And a quick request before we jump into the show. If you like this podcast, the number one reason Flow Dream has grown is because of your reviews. People rely on your opinion, and frankly, they often misunderstand Flow Dreaming. The only way to correct that is through you leaving a few words about the program. So pop over to itunes or your podcast app and write a review. It means so much to me when you do. Now, on to the show. Hey, welcome to Flow Dreaming. It's Summer Mixtravic and God, I just did something I really did not want to do. In fact, I've had to do a lot of things in the last few weeks I did not want to do. But here is the latest one. My team who helped me, my Flow Dream Team, as I call them. Get it. Flow Dream. Flow Dream Team. Flow Dream Team. My team have been begging me to do live Facebook videos for, I don't know, you know, the live stream year, at least a year, if not more. Yes, I have been dragging my feet on it. So I finally, you know, put on my big girl panties and put on my cat burglar hat because my hair is still a big old mess. And I went out in my backyard and I did some livestream. And I'm sharing this with you because today what we're talking about is resistance. How we resist so much. How when we are creating our lives, so much of our lives are created not based on what we do want, but what we don't want. And I just got to see my own resistance in my face. And so I had to go on and tell my team afterwards. All right, I promise to live stream every other day now until my inflow event. Right? So I've just committed myself, made myself accountable to get out there, no matter how I look, no matter if the makeup is on or frankly, even if I have anything to say, of course I want to, because I don't want to waste anybody's time. But these are the things that come up inside me when I'm resisting, when I'm saying I don't want to do it, don't make me do it. Isn't there another way that I can not do this or do something different or do something else? Resistance, boy, it's such an energy. It's an emotion. And it controls us and it controls our futures and it controls our flow. And so that is what we are diving down into today. The nature of resistance in yourself and what it means you are or are not doing in your life. So as long as we're just being very casual today, and I just did my live stream and I'm sitting here in my cat burglar hat, meaning my little black. My black hoodie hat, you can hear the. The foot heater going on. Usually I try to make it nice and quiet, but you know what? Right now I'm not going to because I am cold in my office. And so you hear the wine in the background. Normally, right, I would say, no, can't do that. But right now I'm just kind of saying screw it. To resistance. And I'm hoping that energy is transferring to you as you sit here right now and think about all the things in your life that you are resisting doing, right? What's that old saying? If you, if you resist it, it persists or resists and persists or something along those lines. And it's true, because resistance is a form of activation, right? You guys have heard that term before, swirling around in personal growth. Activation, meaning you give something, life, you give it, you give it feet, you give it. You give it momentum. When you give anything, any kind of energy, you give it momentum. Hate. Boy, who's. Who's ever thought that that didn't create crazy momentum. A lot of things have been done out of hate. Terrible things, wicked things, horrible things in this world. Love, too. Love has done amazing things. It's freed countries, it's freed individuals, their hearts. So resistance is the same thing. If you give it energy, if you buy into it, if you allow it, it will create on your behalf. You get it? So what is it creating? More of what you're resisting. So clearing resistance out of your life should be one of your top priorities. And I know sometimes it can feel like, oh, summer, everything's my top priority. Last week, money was my priority. Next week, love is my prior. Resistance is my priority. No resistance Clearing out resistance is more like an ongoing, almost knee jerk behavior that you want to cultivate in yourself. You know, it's like getting up and drinking a glass of water. You just do it because you get thirsty. You don't force yourself to do it. Well, maybe sometimes you have to. I haven't had my eight glasses or whatever. But generally speaking, your body just says, I'm thirsty, give me something to drink. Okay, I will. And that's the same approach that we want to take when we're ridding resistance from our lives, identifying it, seeing it. So I know we're jumping in feet first today. I didn't even do my housekeeping, but. And by housekeeping, I mean the little things I talk about at the beginning of the show. But I feel that when you start looking at resistance, you kind of have to catch it when the moment's hot, right? Otherwise it's very easy to sink back into what you resist. And it's weird because resistance, truly, it takes as much effort as embracing, right? Please just take a second. Contrast those two feelings right now. Resisting something, embracing something. They both take a kind of activation inside of you. Resistance. For me, I feel my stomach tighten, I feel myself brace inside. I feel my energy go flat and hard, like, don't come in embracing. I go soft and mushy. My body relaxes, it opens. I'm willing, I'm ready to hear, discover. But both of them are very active energies. I feel them both all through me, inch for inch, pound for pound. So when you're looking at your life and you think about how much resistance do I have compared to how much embracing do I experience? Embracing? I don't mean just the embracing where you put your arms around something. I mean that soft opening. Yeah, yeah, I'll do that. I'll take that even. I expect that. When you expect something, that's a form of embracing. Right? Hear me. I'll say it again. When you expect something, it's a form of embracing because you're receiving it, you're accepting it, you're taking it in. Isn't that a great feeling? When I was teaching a couple weeks ago, my MI school retreat that I do once a year, we spent, gosh, at least half a day, perhaps a whole day, just in what it feels like to really, really receive, to allow yourself to say, yeah, not only can I have this, not only do I deserve this, but there is nothing in me that's saying no. It's all, yes, please give me more. I'm good enough for this. I've Earned this. I deserve this. I am everything. Yes, yes, yes. I absolutely am. Embrace. Embracing is the opposite of resisting. Now, when I ask you that question, what do you think about flow? Which one is more in flow? Let's talk about flow for a second. By the way, if you're new to this program, you've already figured it out. It's not about meditation. Flow dreaming is an active energy practice. Energy, emotional practice. It helps you to realign yourself into your, what can I say, your best path, your easiest path, your most growth oriented, expansive path. You will find yourself remodeling your emotions, taking power over your emotions, becoming strong with your emotions. And you'll find yourself discovering that the energy of life itself is listening to you every second, waiting to follow you, waiting to mirror from you what you are giving out, what you are shining out, what you are seeing. And most of us spend a heck of a lot time experiencing resistance. And so our flow, our life, our future says, oh, more resistance, please. Let's give her more of that. Give them more of that. Embracing, on the other hand, is, hey, the world is my oyster. Why can't it be? Why shouldn't it be? Why have I been waiting in line for so many years, looking at everybody else and, gosh, that looks like they keep cutting the line and it's just pissing me off. That's actually what a lot of our country is feeling like right now, right? They're all pissed off at everybody else who they think is cutting in line in front of them. And everybody, every one of us, feels like someone is doing that. That's going into a place of resistance, isn't it? That's giving your power to that thing that's cutting you off. That's the thing that's controlling me. That's the thing that's controlling my destiny. That's the person, the group that's controlling my access, my opportunities. You following this? This is embracing the path of resistance, not embracing the path of embracing. Embracing the path of embracing. I know that's a weird phrase, isn't it? But kind of makes sense. Embracing the path of embracing is everyone has opportunities. And yeah, sometimes the game is skewed in one direction or another, but I believe in me and I trust me. You know, it's kind of like the American credo. It's a. It's a deeply. A deeply optimistic and futuristic way of looking at life. I embrace me and I embrace my potential. I embrace what I'm allowed to do, what I can do. I believe other people will see it in Me. And if they don't, I will do it anyway. That's embracing, embracing, clearing out all of that energy. Close your eyes for a second with me. I want you to feel resistance. I think really feel it. Because normally it's one of those things that we just experience continuously, but we don't actually feel. We don't pay attention. It's like, well, you ever done this? I know it's so bad, I'm gonna do it to you right now. But you know that time when you recognize that you're breathing and then you're like, oh, now I know I'm breathing. And now I can't get my breath to be normal and just kind of go back to just breathing because now I know that I'm breathing, and now I have to pay attention to my breath. You ever had that happen? Oh, I have. It drives me crazy. Something that you do so naturally that when you call attention to it, it gets all out of whack. And yet many of us experience resistance so habitually. I can't do this. I won't do this. I'm embarrassed to do this. This isn't going to work. You're forcing me to do this. Why is that the only way? I don't want to do it that way. I'm God. I could just keep going. Feel that energy check in right now. Close your eyes. Feel your gut. What's it like when you're like, oh, no, I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to be that. I can't have that. I'm not allowed to have that. No one will give it to me. No one sees it in me. It's not going to happen. Every single one of those was a resistance statement. I should write up a little list and distribute it on the Internets. All of the Resistance statements in the world, that list would be so long. But did you feel the energy inside each one of those? In each one of those was the idea that somehow you are blocked, prevented, stalled, stopped, not allowed. Someone else got it. But you think about this feeling. What if you had this feeling in you 24 hours a day, even while you sleep, for God's sakes? It's happening in your dreams and in your subconscious now, every single day. Your life is sort of listening to you. It's paying attention to you. Who else has it got to pay attention to? It's your life. It belongs to you. All the minutes that tick by are only yours. They don't belong to anybody else. You've got its undivided attention. And what you're telling it every day is, I can't have. It won't happen. They don't know me. I won't get invited. Nobody wants me. Nobody wants this thing that I do. Nobody will find the thing that I do valuable. On and on and on and on. And it just runs like this little player piano tinkling in the background. And then on top of this, you add, but I want all these things. And this is. This is who I want to become, and this is what I want to have happen. And this is how the beautiful life I could have, should have had. And there are resistance. It just keeps playing. And this resistance, if you're hearing me right, you're starting to recognize a lot of the resistance is things that you will not do yourself. Not just things that won't happen for you, but you will not do yourself. When I said, I really don't want to do Facebook Live, God, I've got to go put my makeup on and I've got to do my hair and I've got to look right, and I've got a this and I've got a that. I kept building up resistance, resistance. Oh, they're going to see my old double chin. And like, you know, all my stuff comes up. And I went, oh, my God, Summer, you've just sunk so deep. I'm surprised at you, girl. You've been working on this a while. I wonder what else I'm resisting. If I'm resisting something kind of so superficial, frankly as that. What else am I resisting? I want you to look, I want you to start noticing. Why are you resisting? As soon as you free yourself from that, I mean, free yourself from that, you are getting your get out of jail card. You're getting your, you know, free go around the board twice card right after I did my Facebook Live post. I know this is silly to keep harping on, but it's such a great example. I felt like, kick that. Damn it, I did it. Woo. I'm not gonna look at it again, but I did it. I found the other side of resistance, which is. Oh, yeah. That wasn't a big deal. Oh, yeah. Why did I give all my energy to that? Oh, yeah. This is what I want you to experience. Like right now. Pick something. What are you resisting? What happens if instead you start embracing it? You take it in you and you hold it in you and you say, okay, let's do. Let's try this. I want to see this perspective right now. Show me this. What an exciting feeling. I mean, you Suddenly took your power back. Now you're in control, and you're not resisting hiding behind, going smaller than something in front of you. Life, God, source, flow did not make you to shrink, to shrink in front of anything, to resist anything. Anything good at least, right? Some things, you know, it's like anything, resistance, like I teach all emotions have a reason. They're all important, even resistance. I do resist some things that are wicked, that cause suffering. I resist those. I'm so glad I have that emotion in my emotional crayon kit to do that. The problem is it's one of those crayons that just wants to be in everything. And I say, no, you go back into your spot until I need you. Everything else in my life, I'm embracing. I want to know where it leads. I want to know what will happen if I do. I'm going to get over myself. I want my flow to respond to that person. This is the person that I want to have my flow say, yeah, I'm going to give you this, and I'm going to give you this. If you want your life to just give, give, give, give, give continuously, you've got to be an embracer. Oh, I will embrace, embrace, embrace, embrace. And I know some of you are like, yeah, but every time I've embraced, I've been hurt. You know what? Life. Life is full of love, and it's full of hurt. Really is. It's full of both. The same way that your heart not only oxygenates your body, but it also circulates through all of your old lymphatic fluid, all of your cellular debris, it cleanses your body. It nourishes and cleanses. So when you embrace, sometimes things will hurt and they won't work. Many times they will work out, though, and they will be fabulous and beautiful. And I would so rather be that kind of soul than the one who is sitting back, resisting life, resisting everything, saying, no, it's safer to do that out of fear. Therefore, my life is going to pass me by. And I've been gifted with this gorgeous experience by God, And I'm just saying, nope, I'm gonna pull back and watch it and resist it. Imagine if you were a little kid at a birthday party and, you know, you got this beautiful cake and all these presents, and you got a present you didn't want, and you just put your arms in front of you and said, no, I'm not gonna have any of this. And I'm gonna go cry, and I'm gonna just say, the whole party's Terrible. Isn't that funny? Because, like, we've all been that kid. But you're not that kid anymore. You're grown up, and you want to embrace. And you're willing to take the good parts, the bad parts, all the parts, because you want to be in a state of embrace, not resistance. You want to be in a state of embrace. Because when you're in a state of embrace, your life, flow, God, your future, everything says, we can give that person more, we can give her more. Let's give to her. Let's give and give and give. Because, you see, she's put up no barrier to all the things that we can give her. She's put up no wall, no resistance, no. No bridge or dam. Not a bridge, a dam, nothing. You ever wondered why some people, when they say, I can manifest anything, and you look at them and they do. You're like, how did you do that? How did you manifest that in, like, two days? That's crazy. They're like, I'm just really good at manifesting. I have clients like that. And I say to them, you know what? You've got no resistance. That is so beautiful. I honor that in you. You must have worked that out, developed it, learned how to embrace at some point in your infinite existence, because you've really got that going for you now. Let's see what you can do with it. How big can we grow that? How big can we grow you? And it becomes so exciting. And then there are other people, of course, who've never learned how to embrace at all because they got caught in hunker down, pull back, close off don't take, don't expect I hope I've made you think do you want life to give, Give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give to you. Then you want to be someone who embraces. And every time you feel that little tug in you of, I don't want to do this. I can't do this. I'll look stupid if I do this. Nobody will believe me if I do this. I'll lose money if I do this. All the stuff we put up in our heads. Way to check in and ask yourself, how often do I live with those feelings and thoughts? Because that's not really who I am. That's not the true me. The true me is powerful and strong and a receiver. All right, we're gonna go to a quick break. Do you feel good? I feel really, really good. We're gonna go to a quick break. When we come back, we're Just going to get into that energy of non resistance. So stay with me. Live as we work together to create miracles. Welcome back. Here we go. This is not a typical flow dream. I often do them during this podcast. But I want you to experience an emotional state. This is something my MI schoolers and I do a lot. We practice this continuously. You become so fine tuned in control of your emotional self and not in control in like a squeezy, you know, pressurey way. In control in this amazingly calm, self assured, unswayable, unrockable way. This is the beauty of flow dreaming, of emotional practice. This is what we're going to be practicing, by the way, at Inflow, which is coming up in just a couple of weeks. I think you just heard heard a spot about it. We're practicing what it feels like to let go of resistance inside yourself. And I was trying to think if I have a flow dream in my shop for this@flow dreaming.com I don't, I don't think I have a specific one, but I do have some around the theme of letting go of negativity, releasing any kind of anger, resentment, things that you hold. So a lot of very similar ones that kind of run in the same family. So I urge you to check those out and also to learn about flow dreaming and what it is that we do. It is not meditation for many people. It's either an alternative to meditation or an addition to meditation where meditation is clearing and cleaning and cleansing your mind. Flow dreaming is activating, focusing, remodeling your mind and your emotional state and your ability to affect your future and to manifest. Okay, so close your eyes with me and let's just jump into the state for a brief moment. Together. I want you to feel this. What is it like? Eyes closed. Relaxed. Relaxing your stomach and your hips. Relaxing your shoulders, letting them drop. Roll your neck. Wiggle your brow. Your body feels good. It feels primed. You feel beautiful. You really do. You are beautiful. You're handsome. Your heart shines. You're a beautiful being, a beautiful soul. You're infused with source. Like a hot cup of water that's been infused with those sweet tea leaves. Infused. You've been infused with light. The brightness, the grandeur. A gorgeousness, a strength. Do you remember that? Feel it. Now bring up something that makes you feel resistance. Something that makes you say, I don't want it. It'll be too hard. It's going to be stressful. It's going to take too much. The rewards won't be worth it. I hate doing it. It's embarrassing. I'll be rejected. No one will want it. Or any other phrase that comes up. It's resistance. Notice the feeling. You're pushing something away. Away, away. Push. Push. Stop it. Drop your hands. Drop your arms. Stop the pushing. Take this thing and walk to the other side of it. Look at it from the other direction. Stand in front of it. Instead of being behind it, pushing it. Look at it. What if you did that thing? What if you spoke those words? What if you said yes? What if you said, I'm not afraid? What if you said, I'm not embarrassed, I'm not scared. I don't care what people think. Think it's okay if it doesn't work out. I'm good. I'm doing it anyway. What if you said that? What if you felt that? Did you feel that? Your heart? It jumped. It opened. It blinked its eyes with excitement. What? That's your heart. It's talking. It's telling you something. I don't necessarily want to embrace it, but I will. I will. Give me a chance at it. Because I'd sure rather embrace it than keep putting up this forceful defense against it. My arms are tired. My muscles are sore. Holding all of that back has worn my body. Body out. Let me go into it instead. Let me say, okay, I'm ready to solve you. Feel you, experience you, conquer you, face you, exchange with you, go past you. I'm ready to embrace. I feel that. What is that? Feel that feeling. It's light. It's chirpy. It's happy. It's got depth to it. It's got strength in it. Embrace. No more resistance. You don't need it. Not for all of those things. It overgrew its bounds doesn't need to be. All through your life, let go of it in 90% of the places that you find it and make the other 10% even stronger because they deserve it. That's where you're righteous and clear. Or you're a defender. Ah, you say, yeah, I feel so much better. That's who I really am. That's right. So we all are. Go ahead and hold the feeling even as you open your eyes and you come back returning. Imagine if you practiced with that kind of emotional practice as often as you attempt to go to the gym or do, in fact, go to the gym. Imagine if you practice that with the same kind of practice that you take a shower every day or apply your makeup or groom your hair. How can you do those things every day? Can you do this? Which is more valuable? I'd go seven days without combing my hair if I could do that every day. I really would. Because that is what makes my life incredible, strong, fierce, focused. It reminds me, gosh, whatever I'm facing and not wanting and resisting, that's me. And I can let go of that now. I don't need to stay in that. I would so rather be gone all of those emotions and have bad hair every single day. I would. I would make that exchange. You're laughing. Come on. You might. That's what we do in flow. That's what we do as flow dreamers. That's what we do as the kind of people that you and I are. This is why I teach flow dreaming. It's not the easiest thing to teach. A lot of people resist it. Tell me why they can't. Can't be in me school. Can't come to inflow. Can't do the flow dreaming even every day or every other day or even once a week. But I'm just going to keep saying, we always ask for a way out. Here it is. Here it is. It's your way out. Take it. Don't have any resistance. All right. Intense show. Sometimes they come out that way. You know, I just. For those of you who don't know, I spend a great deal of the time in this show with my eyes closed in another state, and I just let it happen. I don't even have notes. All I know is there's a theme, an idea that's tickling me, and I open up and I just let it channel out. I let it happen. I get over my resistance, and that's how I allow myself to create. Created what? 500 shows now. 500 episodes. Can you Imagine if I had to battle resistance every single time. Am I good enough? Is the topic good enough? Do I have enough notes? Did I give myself enough time to do them? Am I in the right state of mind for this? Ugh. I don't. Can't. Can't let myself do that. I embrace. And this is what's happened as a result. You. You're listening. You're here. I'm here. I want you to do this in your own life. All right, before we exit the program today, like I said, I didn't do my normal housekeeping. I really hope I see you in me school. I hope I see you in Inflow. No, really. This is the part where you actually have an opportunity to come in and study with me, and I get to teach you. And it's a pretty exceptional experience. It's an exceptional offer. I know that I'm not going to be doing this my whole life. It is hard work. But I'm doing it right now, and I really urge you to take advantage. Right? Get in. Not just with me. I'm not all in everything. But get in with a group of people who are like you. They're like you. They all want this, too. Talk about finding your audience, finding your friends, finding your family. Embrace it. Do everything you can to embrace it. Don't say you'll do it tomorrow. That's holding back. Embrace. Embrace. And with that, I am going to wish you all a good day, a good evening, send you tons of love and kisses, and I will see you again next week, same time, same place, for more Flow Dreaming.
