Gary Brecka shares a free morning breathwork routine: get sunlight first, then do three rounds of thirty deep breaths followed by a breath hold. He says it raises carbon dioxide, dilates blood vessels, and engages auxiliary respiratory muscles to pull more oxygen into your lungs, improving mood and acting as a natural antidepressant.

So I've been up for a little while, but I want to share with you my favorite free biohack. It's just morning breathwork. Not just getting sunlight into your eyes and on your skin if you're not in a cold environment, but getting sunlight into your eyes and doing 3 rounds of 30 breaths with an extended breath hold in between. Raising the carbon dioxide to dilate the vascular system and just breathing that air into the lungs. Exercising your auxiliary muscles of respiration, the intercostals, those muscles that we use to override the autonomic nervous system and really pull oxygen into the lobes of our lungs and out of the apex of our lungs. If you've never tried breathwork, this is a great area you to explore. Now, all kinds of breathwork— pranayama, Wim Hof, there's so many different styles. You can really go down the rabbit hole of breathwork, but it's portable. You can take it anywhere in the world. It tells your brain it's time to wake up. It raises your mood, elevates your emotion. It's free. It's the best antidepressant.
