Dr. Andy Glapin says sauna use has health benefits but isn't exercise and shouldn't replace it. Studies showing sauna benefits often involve people who don't exercise at all. There's no evidence sauna outperforms actual physical activity.

Getting hot is a great way to simulate exercise. But be really clear here. Saunas are not an exchange for exercise. If the question is, I can't work out today, a sauna is better than nothing, significantly better. And a lot of the research that you're talking about is in people who actually don't even exercise. In and of itself is a positive health benefit. But we have to make sure we have that caveat because that's one of the big things as we popularized heat, sauna, jacuzzi, thinking it's an exchange or alternative or it's even on equal footing. And you're going to have a really hard time convincing me with any molecular data or any randomized control trials or any of our epidemiology that saunas outpace exercise and physical movement.
