Gary Brecka describes how your body responds to sudden cold exposure: it automatically redirects blood to your brain first, then heart, then lungs, starving the rest of your body. He sees this precise sequence as evidence of intelligence built into human survival.

The more I study the human body, the more I believe in God. The architecture of what happens when you get into a cold punch— you get this peripheral vasoconstriction, but it vasoconstricts in a very specific physiologic pattern. It shuttles blood first to the brain, then it shuttles the blood to the heart, and then out to the lungs, and then everything else. And if you think about the intelligence of that, let's say you're walking on the ice, you break through the ice, what is the body going to do in that situation? First thing, preserve the brain. Second, heart. Third, lungs. And if you think about that sequence It starts this entire physiologic cascade to prepare you to best get out of that situation.
