The lyrics of Gedalya Folk Rock Rabbi’s song “Make Me a Sage” present a heartfelt prayer for divine illumination and wisdom. The narrator repeatedly asks the “light of all the ages,” “Heaven,” and the “Rock of the ages” to fill them with the wisdom of the sages, to open their eyes, and to free them from an “ignorant cage.” The verses trace a personal journey from youthful darkness toward a desire for higher truth, using repeated refrains and vivid religious imagery to convey a yearning for spiritual ascent and transformation.

Chapters

The more I analyze them, the more I see. I'm praying to the light of all the ages. Fill me with the wisdom of the sages. Heaven, help me to see through. Give me the eyes to see what is true. Help me get out of this ignorant cage. Fill me with light. Make me a sage. The ways of the world are so far from me. The more I analyze and the more I see, I'm praying to the Rock of all the ages, fill me with the wisdom of the sages. When I was just a youth, I was in the dark, you took me to the truth. Here I am full of desire. Heaven, heaven, heaven. Help me, I wanna go higher. When I was just a youth, I was in the dark. You took me to the truth. Here I am, full of desire. Desire. Heaven, help me, I want to go higher. The ways of the world are so far from thee. The more I analyze them, the more I see. I'm praying to the Rock of all the ages, praying to the Rock of all the ages. Fill me with wisdom. Fill me with the wisdom of the sages.
