Have you heard the saying, "Never judge a book by its cover"? It means we shouldn't prejudge the value of something based upon its outward appearance. But as consumers, that's exactly what we do every single day. The outward appearance of something guides our decision-making process. Think of a product's design, or how it's packaged, or how you feel you're treated when you visit the store, whether it's real or online. Marketing is all about influencing a decision. As marketers, we rely on customers judging the value of our product. Based on what they see. We're hoping they judge a book by its cover. If they like what they first see, we've got half a chance. Of course, the opposite is also true. You could have the greatest product in the world, but you're never going to realize its potential with poor marketing. A bad cover can ruin a good story.
