Prospects will try to categorize your business anyway. Instead of fighting it, guide them into the right box by clearly stating your value proposition and how you differ from competitors. Control the narrative or lose it.
Chapters
Customers want to put you in a box, and you should let them since they're going to do it anyway. But you should help them put you in the right box. When prospects come across your business, they want to pigeonhole you. They want to quickly label you as something, well, something they know. If you don't articulate your value proposition in a way that allows for that, you end up losing control of the narrative. Worse still, you can think, "Hey, I'll leave it up to them to decide." Since you've probably done a bad job with your messaging, there's a good chance they'll mislabel you. They'll put you in a box with something that they think is the same, but you think is different. By defining what you are, you're deliberately positioning yourself. You get to tell the story on your terms, in the way you want. You're in control of the narrative.
