Hi there, marketing mythbuster number 039. Most people don't know the difference between strategy and tactics. Your strategy is what you keep doing even as you walk away from a tactic. For example, a real estate broker could decide that her goal is to get more listings. To achieve that, she's decided her strategy is to become the most trusted business person in town. Now, there are a thousand different tactics she could use to earn that trust. She could coordinate events. She could host community meetings at her offices. She could sponsor the local sports team. It doesn't matter if 1 or 2 or 5 or 10 of the tactics don't work that well, because together they add up. However, if once, just once, she violates someone's trust and expectations, her entire strategy goes out the window. Tactics are disposable. Strategy is for the long haul.
