7 AM, it's a little cold this morning. Looks like I forgot to put my seatbelt on. Uh, out to pick up a bag from a client who's asked us for a special service. And, uh, not running this morning, although I could have. Just looking forward to a very productive day. So this is a little fun treat that I picked up along the way. It's Parmesan cheese. You just spread it out real thin on a plate, microwave it. I microwave these for about 45 seconds. And then you let them cool. And they're kind of— you're always looking for something like, um, you know, I miss my potato chips. Well, don't get me wrong, these don't taste like potato chips, but once they do cool, they're a little crispy, and parmesan has a good flavor, so there's a lot of flavor there. But, uh, you can make them up real quick. There's something to have a snack on, and I really enjoy it. There it is again, the same breakfast over and over. I know that it seems redundant, and it is, but since I posted the picture of before and after yesterday, and I didn't even think that when I did it, I didn't expect to look the way I did, but I surely didn't expect the responses I got. But most of the responses were, you know, what's the secret, how'd you do it, all of those things. And I think this is probably one of the most important things, and Certainly the exercise is more important, probably, but the nice thing about this diet that I've been on, that works for me anyway, is that I've removed the thought process behind eating, and thereby I've kind of removed the, you know, all the options. It's very simple. I don't have to think about food, and that really was the big difference. I thought about food all the time, and I didn't realize I did, but I thought about what I was going to have later. I thought about what we would have tomorrow. When you go to the grocery store, you think about what you're going to have all week. When you are in a restaurant, you look at all the opportunities and you think about how maybe you can have more than one, so that you plan your appetizer and your meal and your dessert. It's the process of eliminating choices that makes this diet work for me, and maybe it worked for you because of that. But on to breakfast. You know, actually, Grant made a great point about entitlement yesterday that also ties into this point about the choices for food. You know, when he was saying that he deserved a day off, and you know, that's what happens with me with food is, hey, I deserve that. You know, I deserve to eat what I want to eat. I deserve to have all the options I want. And so when you go on this diet, it helps eliminate that feeling of "I deserve it" because it's really not one of the options. When you spend about, I guess, probably between 8 and 10 hours a week exercising and another hour or two a week focusing on your diet, and then of course the 60 or so hours a week that you spend focusing on your clients, something has to give. And apparently it's my desk. But today we're going to fix this. This is, um, in the morning we have what we call coffee time, and I'm wearing the stylish pink robe to stay warm because it's a little cold in the, in the house this morning. And everybody's over there laughing at me. I'm not allowed to show anybody else because we're actually in our bedroom. This is where we have coffee time. We have a coffee station set up in our bedroom, and we kind of huddle for the morning. We discuss what we need to get done for the day, and we also just kind of share some thoughts and ideas with each other, review videos and things like that. So if you can set up a place in your house where the family can get together, all 4 of us do it every single morning. We get up out of bed, we all come together and huddle together and have some time together. Are you wanting to say something, son? I was just saying that mostly, most of the time it's the other 2 who stay in bed and we get out of bed. But yeah, I do love your robe though. Thank you. I thought, I thought the hat made the whole ensemble just really perfect. It matches my t-shirt. After a busy week, and I've already mentioned that something's got to give, my desk had to give, and I've been working on that this morning and just went to put together lunch, my usual lunch, and realized that I haven't been to the store and we just haven't had an opportunity to do the shopping we normally do. So a good alternative is to get Chick-fil-A salads. Chick-fil-A has a great salad that— you have to be careful though, they have all those tasty treats so you can can put on it. But we'll have a basic salad with some chicken strips on them, and we'll avoid all the good stuff that we can and enjoy a little bit of the good stuff that we can. I'm way overdue here for a haircut, and the rest of the family's already in there. So we'll go in here and see Megan, the haircut goddess, see how she's doing. Yo yo, Carson Gould, how are you? Good to see you, buddy. Good to see you. Everything going your way? You'll have videos that you think are gonna be awesome. So here's Megan, the haircut goddess, and Grant. Hi, guys! Yeah, thanks. Hey, honey. Tammy's under the, uh, the heater in the chair, so we won't show her. This is the reason I had children. I knew one day I would want them to push the buggy. We are here. Out for our walk. It is a Friday evening. Indeed. It's a pleasant evening. We all got haircuts today, got that accomplished. It's freezing cold. I, uh, pretty happy with it. And we'll go for about a mile or so and spend some time together. Friday night, uh, getting ready for the evening, and we're gonna run, um, I'm gonna run 22 tomorrow. Grant's gonna run 24. And so, um, For the past couple of, probably about 6 weeks now, we've been making Friday night pasta night before our long run. I don't know if that old thing about carbo-loading is real or not, but I do know that I avoid carbs all week, so I look forward to Friday night to have some carbs. And we're gonna have some, 2 different types of pasta and some chicken. Of course, Grant won't eat the chicken, and we'll have some broccoli on the side as well. I was just sitting here chopping up the chicken and thinking about what I just said about the carbo-loading, and you know, the fact is that it this level, when you're running as far as we're running, it has more to do with mental attitude and just, you know, your— the way your brain thinks. And so since we've been doing this for a while, I'm afraid to not do it because mentally I think it's important. So that's really the crux of it all. It's just what you put your mind to, to do it. You know, when you're running as far as we're running, it's all a mental game at this point. Wrapping things up for the evening, for the week. It's Friday evening. It's around 9:15. Get everything put away and have our packing all done for tomorrow's 22-mile run. Grant's gonna do 24. I've got snacks and water for 5 water stations that we'll seed the course with. And try to get a good night's sleep. Try to get any sleep at all because I'm a little bit nervous about the run. But the other thing is, you know, getting used to doing something new. I've done the vlog every day for now 5 days, 6 days, whatever. I guess 5 days, this would be day 5. And, but I haven't posted. I realized I didn't post yesterday's vlog, and so I'm running a day behind. So like learning anything else new, you have to get used to it. But I'll get caught up over the weekend, and by Monday morning we'll be right on track again. So that's it for day 5 of 28 days.
