Glen Gould starts a 28-day training plan for a New Orleans marathon. He walks through his daily routine: eggs and bacon for breakfast, a Plexus drink with fiber, running and bike workouts, almonds and steak for lunch. His son joins him on camera as he balances training with running his dry-cleaning pickup business.

So I've decided today to start on a project called— let's see— called— doggone it, every time I put these shoes on, I got a rock in them. Okay, so I'm back on track here. Here is the pebble that caused me all my grief. There it is. Nasty little suckers. Hurts when you get them in your toes. Anyway, today I've decided to start a new project. It's called 28 Days, and the reason it's called 28 Days is because I'm going to do it for 28 days, but I'm going to do it for 28 days because In 28 days, we'll be running a marathon in New Orleans. My son, there he is, where is— there he is. We'll be running a marathon in New Orleans. And so I wish that I'd gone from the very beginning and documented everything that's changed since I started this whole journey, but that would have been like 5 years worth of stuff. But really, the meat of it's happened in the past about 5 months. And so for the next 28 days, I'm going to record the changes that happen and things that I've been doing, try to get back on track, and we'll just see where it all ends up. It's not 28 Days Later. Wasn't there a movie? Was there a movie that what's-her-name did? Sandra Bullock did. Didn't Sandra Bullock do a movie, 28 Days? I know that there was like a horror movie. Yeah, something like that, but that's not it. It's gonna be my 28 days. So each morning, this is kind of what I've been eating and doing on a regular basis since I really got serious, and it's been about, like I said, about 5 months.
I'll have 3 eggs and some bacon or ham.
Sometimes I'll throw some cheese in, maybe even make them scrambled eggs.
I always use real butter when cooking the eggs, and I have tried a number of different things, but real butter just seems to be the best answer. Each morning I take a vitamin. Right now I'm just taking that because that's what we've got left over, some Centrum or whatever. I started running a lot. My brother told me that I ought to start taking glucosamine, and it has helped with my joints, I guess. I don't know. And I've started putting fiber in my water with my Plexus drink, and I've done that because it, I don't know, because it was there and it started to make me feel a little better, and it makes the Plexus, for whatever reason, it makes it dissolve a little better. I realize I didn't explain why I have the Gatorade bottle, and that's because I keep an empty bottle or something like that to mix my morning drink, my Plexus drink, or the Plexus and fiber with.
I like to just get it over with, so I drink it straight down. And it's worked for me, maybe it'll work for you, but I know that it's not just been that, it's been a combination of everything I've been doing. So our business involves driving around to neighborhoods picking up dry cleaning. We started it about 5 years ago, and there's a long story about that I won't share now, but We've now gotten to the point where on Mondays, our busiest day, and we're out with 3 vehicles. We only have one that's branded, the other 2 I'm driving my son's car right now. And the interesting thing is, since I've been on this journey with losing weight and everything, I used to hate riding in this car. And it's because the seats are, you know, designed, you know, a little bit more in an exacting way, I guess. They've got edges to them, and my butt just didn't fit in it properly. And so I don't mind riding in this car as much. As a matter of fact, it's a little more fun to drive than the minivan. But that's one of the things that I've just kind of enjoyed, you know, a difference in my life is that I've been able to enjoy driving this car. And I'm gonna have to go because I see a green bag.
So here's my lunch. It's been my lunch now pretty much every day for about 5 months. I spiced it up a little bit. I've started to add some carrots, although they're not really on my diet. And my big cheat has always been almonds. Got a little steak in here today, but same lunch every day pretty much. That's what I do.
I am such a dodo. I thought I just recorded this, but now we'll do it again. So we're out here in the afternoon. It's February 1st, a beautiful day. The whole family is out for a walk to get a little exercise, to improve our lives, to spend time together and kind of catch up with each other and just see all the things that are going on. I guess I need to turn her neck. Yeah, that's not working either.
Son.
I'm learning how to do this as I go.
I'm sorry.
There we go. How about that? What are you sorry about? Everything I do is failing. Thank you for the vote of confidence from my son. He's here to help. This is the land of silly walks. This whole thing is devolved into chaos. Yes, this is what we do. So we just wrapped up our workout at the club. I don't really do a whole lot. I did 3 miles on the bike and some crunches, and that's about it, and got in the sauna. But that kind of wraps up today, and we'll be back at it tomorrow.
