A young professional doubts she can start a business, but the speaker redefines it as simply the work you do regularly. Employment actually carries more risk than entrepreneurship: your boss can fire you or the company can fail. Everyone is already in business, whether employed or job-seeking. The difference is autonomy and serving multiple clients instead of one.

I was talking to a young lady just the other day, and she's one of these people, she's got, you know, great skills, she's really personable, people like her, and she's kind of unfulfilled in her job and kind of would like to do something different. And I suggested to her, I said, "Why don't you start a business of your own?" And she looked at me as if I was crazy. "I mean, I don't know how to start a business. A business is a big responsibility." business is risky and dangerous and all of that. I'll tell you what risky is. Risky is selling your services to one person or one group of people, an employer who can fire you at any time, you know, or their business goes out of business. So I said to her, I said, you don't understand what business really is because business is defined as simply your profession or your occupation or a trade or something that you're regularly engaged in. And by starting your own business, you could have more control, you could sell to more, more people who need your service, you could provide greater service, you could become more fulfilled in your work. And I just thought that it was a really big opportunity for her. She's not ready yet, and, and that's okay. But a lot of people misunderstand that business is nothing more, nothing less than what we're already doing. It's just a different way of doing it. But still, business is going on all the time. You're in business right now if you've got a job, looking for a job, if you've just graduated from college. It doesn't matter. We're all in business all the time. We're all engaged in our profession and our trade. So think a little bit differently about business because it's something that can be extremely rewarding if you just get in there and serve the right people.
