In this episode of the Mama Goddess podcast, host Alexandra J. Johnson invites listeners to embrace what she calls the "art of enjoying" – the practice of deliberately making time for leisure, play, rest, and other nourishing activities that are often excluded from productivity‑focused to‑do lists. She contrasts the modern hustle culture, where everything feels urgent, with the need to slow down, savor simple pleasures like walking, reading with children, swimming, journaling, or simply doing nothing. Alexandra argues that these moments are not wasted; they replenish energy, sharpen perspective, and ultimately boost the effectiveness and joy of one’s work. She offers concrete suggestions (e.g., taking a leisurely lunch, going for a walk, lying in a hammock) and emphasizes that integrating leisure into daily life leads to greater fulfillment, clarity, and zest when returning to tasks. The episode closes with a warm invitation to visit mamagoddess.com and a heartfelt send‑off of love and blessings.
Welcome to Mama Goddess. I'm your host, Alexandra J. Johnson. This podcast is all about rocking your goddess life, creating vibrant health and celebrating motherhood and family life. It's about living an authentically awesome life. Let's have.
Hello, this is Alexandra. Welcome to another optimize +1 we like to feel productive. We like to accomplish things, cross things off our to do list, do great work. But what about other things that nourish us? Like going for a walk, talking with a friend, reading a book with our children, watching the birds outside our window while we are drinking tea, going for a swim in the lake, journaling, making a meal from scratch, cuddling up and watching a movie, knitting, building something, helping a friend, going for a bike ride, taking a nap. These things don't usually make it on our I feel important, productive and useful list. They are usually the things that we do or say we will do when we have extra time. We might even feel guilty doing these things or that we are wasting time. I like to call these things that deeply nourish us the art of enjoying. Or you can call it the art of play, leisure, rest, or even doing nothing. I believe this is a lost art. In the fast pace of the modern era, there is always something to do and usually too many things to do and a feeling of hurriedness in regards to getting those things done. Today and most days I am saying yes to this lost art and I'm inviting you to do something to celebrate this art as well. Go for a walk. Go slower than normal. Eat a leisure lunch with your friend. Go to bed earlier, lie on the hammock, Read a book. Even if the laundry needs to get done. Being productive and working is important and vital for our happiness and our well being. But so is leisure. So is time to soak up the love, beauty and goodness that surrounds us. If we're too busy, then we miss out on the opportunity to celebrate the magic. And the secret is that when we take time for this art, it nourishes us. And then we go back and tackle our to do list with more zest and fulfillment. Basically, life just feels better and more fulfilling. It also helps us gain perspective and clarity on what's truly important and we experience more joy. Who doesn't want more joy? Yum for the art of enjoying. Now go and enjoy your day. Sending you big love and blessings.
We hope you enjoyed this episode of Mama Goddess. Sending you lots of love and blessings. If you'd like to connect more, go to mamagoddess.com until next time, keep rocking it and have an awesome day.
