Alexandra J. Johnson watches her 7-year-old son Emerson realize thoughts aren't the self, then they play the "Just a Thought" game, labeling intrusive thoughts as passing mental events. We have 60 to 80,000 thoughts a day. She teaches breath work and heart-centered visualization to connect with your real self.
Welcome to Mama Goddess. I'm your host, Alexandra J. Johnson. This podcast is all about rocking your goddess life, creating vibrant health and celebrating motherhood and family life. It's about living an authentically awesome life. Let's have some fun.
Hello, this is Alexandra. Welcome to another Optimize plus one. I'm stretching on the floor and watching a video with Michael Singer and Oprah talking about how our thoughts aren't us. That we all have these thoughts running around in our head and those thoughts aren't our real self. Emerson is crawling on my back. He then says to me, that means there's no reason you should get mad at me because it's just a thought. I smile. Then he was silent for a moment and then says, and I shouldn't get mad at you because it's just a thought. I said, you are absolutely correct. Then we proceeded to play a theatrical game of thoughts. Oh, you're a poopy. Just a thought. You are mean spirited. Just a thought. I'm getting mad at you. Just a thought. I love kids. I love their innocence and their brilliance and wisdom. This Just a Thought game is something we've been having fun exploring. I'm astonished that my 7 year old is noticing his thoughts. What? I only started doing that when I was in my 20s. The lightness with which he approaches it is refreshing and inspiring. Definitely my teacher. In many ways, this video is a reminder for all of us to remember. Our thoughts are not actually who we are. There is something deeper than the thoughts. There's our real self, our divine essence. We don't have to believe everything we think. So as you go through your day, play the Just a Thought game. Make it fun by saying, oh, there's another thought. I'm having a thought that I'm frustrated. Just a thought. Just a thought. Just a thought. And go on with your day doing what needs to get done, not ruminating on the so called negative thoughts. If we can practice this light heartedness with our thoughts, then we won't feel so constricted and stressed. We can choose to feel more levity around the 60 to 80,000 thoughts we have in a day and let them flow through us. Just a thought. The challenge is when we get hooked on our thought and then we start thinking similar thoughts and then it takes us down into Sufferingville. This is a town that sucks our joy and life force right out of us. Not a place we want to visit very often. So let's take a deep breath. May we be wise enough as our children to see that our thoughts are just thoughts, not who we really are. Take another deep breath as you feel into your real self. Breathe into your heart. Invite your essence to shine brighter. That's who you truly are. That light. Live it today. Sending you big love and blessings.
