Alexandra J. Johnson combines movement with everyday family tasks, inspired by biomechanist Katie Bowman. She plays walkie-talkie tag with her kids, runs with her daughter in a backpack, and turns chores like cleaning a chicken coop into workouts to strengthen family bonds and model an active lifestyle.

Hey, everyone, it's Alexandra. Hope you're having a great day. So. So I have two things for today's video, and the first one is about stacking. I got this idea from Katie Bowman, who's a biomechanist, and she's amazing, genius on movement. And the idea is to basically stack your movement with other things, whether that's hanging out with your kids, with your friends, you know, getting a friend and going for a walk. And then you get connection and movement and sunshine and just. Just has a whole bunch of different ideas of ways to stack your life, and I think that's genius, and I definitely do that with my kids. I was just thinking about this idea because I played walkie talkie tag with my two kids, and it's kind of. You know, we have walkie talkies, obviously, and we have a trail here. And then speaking of, I have a knock. We have a little trail here, and so we have the walkie talkies, and then we kind of hide, and then you try to catch each other. So it's really fun. But I just use that. Like, today, that was my workout today. I actually was, like, running. I had my daughter on my back, which is like £30 in a backpack. I'm running, my heart rate's getting up. And so we have connecting together. We have. We have fun, we have movement, we have sunshine, we have nature. So that is, like the ultimate stack. So I try to do that as often as possible, and I usually try to do it with movement, but you can do it with anything. Even, like, getting the kids outside to read books so that we're getting outside, we're in nature, we're getting sun, fresh air. So I'm always looking for ways that we can stack things that we want to do together so that we can, you know, really optimize our time. So that was just the idea for today. I was thinking about it with parents who don't have a lot of time to work out, and then they also want to spend time with their kids. And, you know, there's. I think going to the gym is awesome and amazing, and sometimes you need that to decompress and having space from your kids. I just spend most of my time. Usually, very rarely, I work out by myself. Usually my kids are there with me, and I feel like that's just a really good time for us to spend together. Hanging out, running, playing. And then also for them to see me working out to model that behavior, I also think is really great as well. So. And then I will say, you know, it always takes longer. So if I do do a workout with the kids, if it was going to take me 30 minutes, it might take me, like, 60 minutes. But I think that's a win in my book. As I said, we're hitting so many different things when we're stacking and we're moving together as a family. So that's the idea on stacking. And then after we did that, we went and cleaned our chicken Cooper. So that was also a form of movement. And we just recently moved out to some land, and we got some chickens. No idea what we're doing. But I was reflecting on how hard farmers and homesteaders work. Like, it is like, some serious hard work. So for all you homesteaders and farmers out there, deep respect for how hard you work, and then also for the value that you give to our world. There is an amazing. An amazing movie I watched a couple weeks ago called the Farmer's Footprint by Zach Bush. And it's really inspiring, and it's really a call for us to support our. To support our farmers and to really acknowledge the hard work that they're doing. And I'm just. I feel so grateful for the food that I get, the organic food that I get, because these farmers are so committed to doing the right thing. So I'm really. That just kind of goes with movement a little bit for me. And Katie Bowman talks about that, too, of how, you know, how farmers, they just are moving all the time. Like, it's a very active lifestyle. So I just like that connection between our movement and then our food. I think that's really inspiring as well. And I don't anticipate being an awesome homesteader. I'm not sure that's my calling, but we'll see. But I do. My other thing that I wanted to ask y' all is that what do you do about chickens and chicken poop? So we have our chickens just running around, and we have, you know, lots of forest and space, and they poop around our house. And it smells so not related to anything in this video, but I figured somebody out there would know. We got some, like, organic stuff to kind of put around so it doesn't smell so much and to put in their coop, but it still stinks. So if you have any wisdom, please let me know, because all I smell when I go outside in our backyard is chicken poop. Not all I smell, but it does smell like poop. So any tips for you homesteaders farmers out there? Please help a newbie out. All right, so that's the idea for today. Check out that documentary if you would like. And then also look at ways that you can stack your life a little bit more so so that you can optimize your time, connect with your family, move your body, get some sunshine, and have more fun.
All right.
Sending you lots of love.
