Christian Faith- The Power of Your Spoken Words

In episode 40 of the "No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe" podcast, host Greg Ryan introduces a new series focus: the power of the spoken word. He begins by urging listeners to immerse themselves in Scripture, citing John 1:1 as a foundation for the Word’s authority. Ryan then examines Proverbs 18:20‑21, emphasizing that a person's sustenance comes from the fruit of their mouth and that life and death reside in the tongue. He references King Solomon’s unparalleled wisdom to illustrate the impact of spoken authority. The core of the episode is a detailed exposition of James 3, where Ryan describes the tongue as a small yet fiery member that can bless or curse, likening it to a rudder or a spark that can ignite a forest. He stresses the difficulty of taming the tongue and the severe judgment associated with teaching. Throughout, Ryan weaves personal testimony about how Scripture transformed his life and urges listeners to guard their words, recognizing that Satan can weaponize language. He previews the next episode’s focus on Mark 11:22‑24, which deals with faith, doubt, and the authority of spoken belief. The episode concludes with a call to subscribe, review, and apply the teachings to overcome fear and doubt, using the power of words to shape one’s life.
Welcome to episode 40. If you've been here before, you know how it starts.
The Gospel of John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast. Where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 40. If this is your first time with us, I thank you for being a part. In the previous 5 or 6, 6 or 7 episodes, I talked about the power of the seed, and in this episode I'm going to start a new power, and it's called the power of your spoken word. So I wanna dig right into that. I've got a lot to say about that topic, and I want to go to scripture, to the word of God, which you know, if you've listened to me, I'm gonna get on my soapbox real quick. The word of God, if you are not in the word of God, then I can't help you. I mean, I really, the reason that I'm here is because how much the word has changed my life, and if it's changed me, God is not a respecter of persons., it will change your life. So I'm just wanna, I'm not gonna beg you, but I wanna ask you sternly or strongly, please get in the word of God. And we're gonna do that today. We're gonna get into Proverbs 18:20 and 21. A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Now this was King Solomon, and he was the smartest or the most wise. He prayed for wisdom, and he was, in the word of God it said that he was, there was no one any wiser, no one was ever any richer or wealthier than King Solomon. So when King Solomon spoke, people listened, and it is part of the word of God, so I believe that we need to listen to these words. And if you follow my Facebook page at all, on No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe. I think that's the name of it on Facebook. But it is— I put in there, I put in scripture, you know, I upload the podcast and I do words or quotes from men and women who have lived before us when the times weren't as fast as they are today, where we're not— we don't have instant everything back in the day.. And these people, I put up quotes. And, and King Solomon, this is kind of a double portion, I guess, of quotes. This is a quote from King Solomon, and it is in the Bible. So it's a— the word of God, and it's from a person that has looked at kind of how life goes, and he's looked at and he's pondered things, and he said, look, this is This is a big deal, and that's why I wanted to bring this to you first, because the power of your spoken word is a big deal. You have got to see the power that you have, and I've, I've talked about this in a previous episode, but you really have so much power, so much probably untapped power that is in your mouth. And James talks about how not many of us should be teachers. And I've— I talked about this too when I first— when I first read this, I thought— I said, there's no way I'm going to be a teacher. And now look at me. And it's in James 3:1, my brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. That was the scripture that I read that kept me for a long time from teaching, which was a good thing. God didn't want me teaching when I first got saved, and he had me read that and And he had me say to myself, self, there is no way I'm gonna be a teacher 'cause I barely got saved and all of this garbage that was in me and on me, all of that had to be cleaned up and I had no business jumping in and teaching. And that's why, and God knows, God knows the end from the beginning and he saw me, I guess he saw me doing this podcast. So it is a process and we talked about that in the seed. It's all about a process. But I'm going to continue in James 3, and it— I'm going to pick it up in 3:3. Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships. Although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how a great forest A little fire kindles. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set against our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind: but no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil full of deadly poisons. With it we bless God and Father, and with it we curse men who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the mouth proceedeth blessings and cursings. My brethren, these things ought not be so. Now that is a lot of scripture, and if you follow me, you know I'm going to teach on the Bible, so the scripture is what it's all about. If I'm not reading scripture, then it's my teeth rattling on in my head, and I am gonna read scripture on this podcast every time. So I— if you are into the word of God and you want to dig into the word, that's why you're here. And we're here to destroy fear, and we're to destroy doubt and all that unbelief. And we are trying to— Only Believe is the name of the podcast. So I am trying to get this word inside of you so that you can take on all that fear and doubt for yourself, and you will have the sword of the Spirit inside of you, and you'll be able to wield that. And the only way you can do that is if you start planting this incorruptible seed. But then once it's planted, we have to speak it out. And then we have— but before we start speaking and cursing and blessing, we need to understand how powerful the tongue is. And I, and I want to go back and to just put the point down again. I want to go back to Proverbs 18:20 and 21 with the taming of the tongue in your mind from James. A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it will eat its fruit. Now that's when you, when you combine those two scriptures, and again, that's why we— you don't really read the Bible like a book. You can read it from COVID to cover, you start picking up, you know, ideas, and you start looking at, you know, what's God telling me about this, about the power of the tongue? And he's trying to warn us, hey, you have power there, and you need to, you need to watch how you use that power. And that's what we're going to get into in this, in this series, is, is the power of your words. And death and life are in the power of the tongue. And in the next episode, we're going to talk about one of my favorite scriptures, and it was the one that I've started— I believe I started on episode 1, and I had to. I— it's been so long. It's been a whole 40-some days since I did episode 1. But it has been— it is Mark 11:22-24. But it is, it is a very powerful scripture that Jesus himself spoke, and he said, hey, you know, if you say and do not doubt. And is one of the reasons, and multiple reasons, why I began this podcast. But that scripture, along with what God has done in my life, and he has brought me from nothing to I'm still not a whole lot, but I'm a whole lot better than I was before he— before I accepted him as my Lord and Savior. And that's what I want to encourage you with the words of my mouth. And the end of this episode, I don't want to spend a whole lot of time. I just wanted to enter— this is an introduction to the power of your words, and I want you to see that death and life are in the power of your of your tongue, and the man's stomach shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth. That means that you will, you will get your fill based on the words that you speak. And I just believe Satan is such a punk that he knows this. He knows the, he knows the Bible probably better than you and I do, and he manipulates it so that he can use these words, our own words, against us. And we're going to have to start taking control of what we say and really what we think. But what we think is in a different series. The Bible says, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you. So we're going to try our best to get a hold of these words. God created everything with words. Jesus is the word. I mean, the word is very powerful. And your words, I want you to understand how powerful you are and how powerful and the authority that God has given you. And he has given you the ability to use your words to create your life. Well, that's enough for this episode. It's— I, I'm excited about this teaching, and I'm excited if you're just joining me. I'd want to thank you for being a part and And I want to ask you, hit the subscribe button, go ahead and give me some review. I hear that that's a good thing. So anyway, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to talking to you in the next episode.
