Christian Podcast David defeats Goliath with the spoken word.

Greg Ryan teaches that spoken faith carries power, using David and Goliath as the central example. David won not with weapons but by declaring God's name and promise. Ryan urges listeners to daily speak faith-filled declarations rather than doubt.
Welcome to episode 274.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I'm continuing on talking about spiritual audacity, and I've been talking about David, King David, and how he used his faith in the word of God and his relationship with God to then destroy— and we haven't got to that part yet, but he's going to destroy the giant. And I want us to look at that story again with some closer eyes and, and with faith. And remember, we talked about Proverbs 18:21 last time, or last couple episodes, where it says, death and life is in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat of its fruit. And that is telling me this thing that we're doing down here, when we start speaking our faith— we have to speak our faith, it has to go out into the world. I don't understand exactly how it all works,. But I do know if you read Genesis 1 and you go to Genesis 1, that God said, and then he saw. God spoke this world into existence. In Genesis 1, there were 10 instances where God spoke, where God— where it said, God said, 10 times. There's 10 Commandments. It— all this Bible stuff just kind of goes in again like a hand in a glove. And I'm going to get on my soapbox real quick. This is early for my soapbox moment, but we need to get into the word of God. And allow the Word of God to get into us, because this is the real truth. This is what's going to change our lives in this life and then the life to come in our spiritual relationship. This is a spiritual food. This is spiritual bread. Jesus talked about this in John 6. Check in, in the Gospel of John chapter 6, that pretty much that whole chapter where Jesus talked. And I had an episode on this earlier where Jesus pretty much said, eat me. And I'm not going to go back into that episode, but he was talking about the spiritual bread, that he was the spiritual bread. The children of Israel in the wilderness had manna. That is just a shadow or representation of what was really truly coming, and Jesus is the bread of life. And so we need to— it says in John 6, and I wasn't prepared to talk about this, obviously someone needs to hear this— but we need to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood. And that is not in the cannibalistic carnal way. That is not you and I chomping on someone's leg or arm. That is us getting into this word and eating the— give us this day— Jesus also prayed when he was teaching his disciples how to pray, give us this day our daily bread. And so that, I believe, is something that we need to do every day. And I'm just gonna— every time I'm gonna talk about getting into the word of God, so just get used to it. This is why— this is why we're here. We have got to combat what Satan is doing, the punk, with what we know to do and what we know is right. And getting into the Word of God is the right thing to do every time. Now, that's not gonna mean that you're not gonna have opposition, because you are. You're gonna be fought against this, because Satan does not want you in his Word. And so that's why I'm here. I'm here to encourage, empower, and inspire you. And I've gotta give you a little note that I'm not afraid to look like a fool sometimes, And maybe every time, my wife would probably argue, but I am doing Water Walking Wednesday on my YouTube video. And I'm here to announce that on my last video, I busted my backside. I stepped off the bank and my, I guess my heel hit the ground and my foot slipped out from under me and I busted it into the pond or lake there by my house. It was a wonderful event. I did not walk on water. But you know, God's not condemning me. God, I think God is trying to encourage me to keep going. And I just want to, when we look at the Bible and it says to ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened unto you. That verb, I've been told, means ask and keep asking, seek and keep seeking, knock and keep knocking. And so I'm just going to continue on with this thing, whether I do it or don't do it. I'm gonna keep going. Every Wednesday I'm gonna try, and I don't even know, I've been praying about if I should go to different places. Maybe the water's a little harder in a swimming pool. I haven't found that to be the case. Again, it's been over 200 times-ish that I've tried to walk on water, and I've just decided to bring y'all into my world. You knew I was a fanatic. You knew I love Jesus, and you know I love the Word, but I am trying the best I know to do to put this Word to my life and to put it not to a test, but to figure out when— and I've— we've talked about this before— when we make mistakes, that's when we learn the most. And I don't think it's a sin for me to try to walk on water. Now, you would argue that it may be stupid, and I couldn't argue that, but I am trying what, what I can do with what I have down here, and I want to hear God say, well done. And And I don't want God, if he comes back, to see me not living in faith. And it is gonna take all the faith, and really, to be honest, it's gonna take a whole lot less unbelief than I've got right now. I have got so much unbelief in my soul, in my mind, will, and emotion, that I've gotta figure out a way to get it out. And I'm trying to do that, and I challenge you, when you start doing something that's way out of bounds in this physical world that we're living in, that it's got to take faith. And I just believe that God is okay with that. God is okay with me slipping and falling and busting my backside. In fact, he's got a sense of humor. I'm sure he laughed at it, and I'm sure that Jesus and him had a time. I hope they did. I hope they enjoyed it. But I am trying the best I can to do this word. I want to go to 1 Samuel 17 again, and I'm not going to reread what we've already read, but we're going to pick up the story when David has been given permission by the king. And I just want you to understand that David had to get permission, and he spoke his testimony, and he disarmed the king because the king was putting him up as his champion. And can you imagine the king, or in our world, the president of the United States? Am I— where I'm living right now, I'm going to be the one representing the whole United States of America, and that is a big deal. I don't think people put enough emphasis on the fact that King Saul allowed David to go out but it was because he gave his testimony and it disarmed any kind of unbelief and doubt. And King Saul, after he heard that, said, well, go get it. And then he tried to manipulate it by putting his armor, and David said, you know, I haven't tested this. And I'm not going to read that again. Your homework was to read chapters 16 and 17 in 1 Samuel, so I hope you've done that. We're going to pick it up in 1 Samuel 17:40. Then he took his staff in his hand and he chose for himself 5 smooth stones from the brook and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and the sling in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine. So the Philistine came and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him, for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field. Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you, And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands. Now I'm gonna stop there because that's an awful lot, and I know that we do a lot of reading here, we do a lot of scripture, When we're talking John 14:12, where Jesus said, most assuredly, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do, and greater works will he do, because I'm going to my Father. And he also said in Matthew, where he was talking to his disciples or the people around after John the Baptist's disciples went away, he told the crowd, of those born of women, there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven shall be greater than he. And I just want you to let that soak in. I want you to think about King David, and he's a ruddy boy. Now, he's been anointed, and I want to encourage you to remember when you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. We've talked about being baptized in the Holy Spirit. I'm not even going to go there, but I want you just to think about having God inside of you And David was anointed and the Holy Spirit came upon him. So I think that we need that power. And Jesus told his disciples in Acts, in the end of Luke, to wait, and that because the Holy Spirit will come upon you. Anyway, I'm not even going to start doing chasing that rabbit, but I want you to think about the power that we have and that we have the name of Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit, we have Father God inside of us. We have got all of these weapons. We can pray, we can ask God, we can go boldly into the throne of grace. We have all of these tools in our arsenal, and I wanna say that we're not using hardly any of them. But one of the tools that you and I and David had was the ability to speak out. And I want you to hear what David said, because I think that if David would not have cursed Goliath and told him what he was gonna do to him, I think Goliath would have, quote, won that battle because he spoke out loud. Let's just read it real quick. With that in mind, I want you to hear how David countered him with his words, and that's why I think it's so important that we speak our words. And this is in 1 Samuel 17:43. So the Philistine said to David, am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field. And I wanna stop there because Goliath, I think, knew how this thing worked. I mean, maybe he didn't understand it all, but he knew that he had to speak it. And I think that that's important, that we speak to our enemy and that we speak to the problems that we have. And I know it may seem weird, but I think you've got to say it out loud. I just, we've talked about this before, but we have got to say it out loud, and we got to say it with conviction. And I think we have to say it with passion. We need to put everything we got into it. And I, again, I know I'm a fanatic, but it's important that we say things. It's important that we speak. If anyone tells you any different, I would have them read the Bible, because the Bible is voice activated. You look at Google, you look at Amazon, you look at, I think Apple, they've all got that voice activated or voice technology to where you ask a question and then you get a voice or you get the supercomputer or whoever's on the other side of that answering your question. So it's the same way with the faith. Faith is voice activated. Now faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You first have to listen to it and you have to plan it. And that's a whole nother rabbit I'm not gonna chase., but we've done, I think, a pretty decent job of talking about that here in the kingdom of God, but I want you to just think about when Goliath spoke those words, had David not countered him with faith-filled words of his own, I believe Goliath would have beaten David, and I believe it was upon David to speak his faith out, and I think he did, and we're going to read right here before we finish up. I want this because I want you to be encouraged by this. Because I am— every time I read it, King David, that little boy that killed that 9-foot or whatever giant, that's inspiring. He did it with the power of God, and you see that at the end of— at 47. But let's pick it up. Then David said to the Philistine, you come to me with sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all of this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands. There's a lot in that, and we'll probably cover that on a next episode, kind of a conclusion on the King David But I just want you to let that sink in and let that simmer and just think about David spoke that out. And I, one more thing before we close is David didn't have a sword. I want you to think about that too. He had a staff and he had a slingshot, but he spoke with so much faith that he just talked. He got all fired up and the Holy Spirit got on him and said, by the way, I'm gonna take your head off. And he did. He did. So I'm gonna stop there. We'll pick it up and finish this thing up on the next episode. But let's pray. God, I thank you so much for this listener. God, I thank you for your word. I thank you for the example King David gave us, Lord, when he was young in the faith, but he was still strong enough to speak the words out and then had them come to pass. And Lord, we thank you for that example. We ask that you would continue to lead and guide and direct us And we thank you. We love you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
