Christian Podcast Learning to walk through life with chutzpah- spiritual audacity

Greg Ryan explores chutzpah, or spiritual audacity, urging Christians to move beyond safe choices toward bold faith. He uses basketball and baseball metaphors to show how believers can attempt kingdom-advancing actions, distinguishing failure from sin, and emphasizes submitting to God while resisting the devil through prayer and the Holy Spirit.
Welcome to episode 268.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I am going to kind of pick up on the same theme of me being a screw-up. We already knew that if you've listened to any part of my podcast. You know that this is about an imperfect man following after a perfect example. And as I was reading, you know, I'm a reader. I like to read things and I'm reading, it's called Mysteries of the Messiah. By Rabbi Jason Sobel, S-O-B-E-L. It's a really good book, and it opens up my eyes. I, you know, the more you get into the Bible, the more you understand. You don't understand much of any of it, and I never really knew that the Hebrew language and the Greek language, each of those languages, the letters are associated with numbers as well. So each word has an associated number with it. And so I'm not going to run down that rabbit hole right now, but it's amazing. It's incredible that where you start seeing how God puts all this stuff together, and he's also got it, you know, numerically intact. He's got the words, and they— it fits like a hand in a glove. It's amazing. I love the Bible, and the more I get into it, the less I know that I understand of it. So I'm here to tell you that I'm just learning just like you, but I'm in it every day and I'm seeking. And the Bible says seek and keep seeking ask and keep asking, knock and keep knocking. That's what we're doing here. We're just getting into the word of God and allowing the word of God to get into us, and we're trying our best to promote the kingdom of God, God's way of doing things. And one of the things in this book that just stopped me— and it's not the Bible, so I can't say that it was the Holy Spirit that stopped me— but as I've been searching for what am I going to do and what do I see as my reason for being here on this podcast or being here on this planet at this time? Because we all have a purpose. And one of the words that Rabbi Jason used was chutzpah. And I'd heard that before, didn't really know what that meant. He defined chutzpah as spiritual audacity. And I want to tell you, that just fired me up because That's the thing that I think is missing in the church today, is just that spiritual audacity to do the Word of God and to believe the Word of God. Instead of making excuses for God, we start getting into the Bible and start allowing the Bible to be lived through us. And when I start thinking about this spiritual audacity, The next thing that I go to is John 14:12, where Jesus said, "Assuredly," and I'm going to go to that real quick because I want to make sure I read it specifically. I mean, I think I got it mesmerized pretty good. Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also, and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father. And I've told you before that this was one of those scriptures that just stopped me. And I was meditating on this scripture when I was also meditating on Mark 11:22. And I'm gonna read that because that's one of our anchor scriptures for this podcast. Mark 11:22 through 24. So Jesus answered and said to them, have faith in God, for assuredly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, He will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them and you will have them. Now, I want you to know that we've talked about this before, but that to me is just like a one-two punch to where we just take a right and a left to the gut or to the head of Satan. And that is what we need. We need to get into this word and we need to find some scriptures that's going to put Satan on the run. And we've talked before about Romans 12:1 multiple times, where we present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable, which is our reasonable service. And then James 4:7— and I know if you're a frequent flyer here or fanatic, you're probably getting tired of me saying this, but this is how we repeat things and this is how we start owning them— but James 4:7 says, submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. So when we submit ourselves to God, then we resist the devil, then he's got to go. And then we take these other scriptures that Jesus said, most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also, and greater works than these he will do because I go to my Father. And he's told his disciples as well that it was to their advantage. Now this is in John 16:7. That it was to their advantage that he leave, because if he didn't leave, he would not send the Helper. But if he, if he left, he would send the Helper. And the Helper is here. The Holy Spirit is here. And I know that I try real hard— I've told you before that I try not to make every podcast a sports analogy. I've got to use this sports analogy, and I'm going to use basketball and baseball for what I just think is going on in my head. And with this chutzpah word, this spiritual audacity, we need as a body of Christ, as the church, we need to start swinging for the fence more. We need to start trying to hit the grand slam. We need to start— if there's 3 runners on base, if we get the position to where we can mash Satan, because the Bible says that we're more than conquerors. We're supposed to be winning. We're supposed to go from victory to victory. And so what we're supposed to be doing is we're supposed to be winning every time we work— walk on the field, every battle. Jesus never lost a battle, and Jesus is inside of us. The Holy Spirit is here. We need to start taking our spiritual authority as children of God. We need to start walking in this authority, and we need to start punching Satan in the teeth. And if we're swinging for the fence and we're trying to hit this long ball every time we get up to play, we're going to strike out some. And that's what I want to talk about because for, you know, in that Us Versus Them, the last few episodes, I've talked about how with finances I messed up because I kept swinging, I guess swinging for the financial fence. There's a time and a place to do everything in the kingdom of God. I'm gonna bring the basketball analogy. God's way of doing things over and over, the repetitive things, you're gonna win the game by doing layups in basketball. You're gonna in the paint, the little 5-footer, the little 10-foot shot, You're going to win the game if you can make those more than you miss those, and if you rebound and you box out— the fundamentals. And so that's like praying, that's like fasting, that is like acts of service, that is loving your neighbor, getting together in the community, getting together and lifting one another up, worshiping God. All of those things I think are so necessary, but the other side of that is we also have to take some half-court shots. We, we can't be afraid when the game's on the line, or if we've got the ball and time's running out and we got to take a full-court shot— for the basketball analogy— we've got to take that shot, and we've got to believe that God could help us get it into the bucket. And I just want to encourage you as I start this next phase or this next talk that I'm going to promote, we need to get spiritually audacious. We need to start having some spiritually audacious goals. We need to have some chutzpah, and we need to just start getting after this thing. And we've got to be okay with failing, because there's a difference between failing and sinning. Now, failing is just trying something and not having it happen. And I have tried many things and they have not happened., but it doesn't discourage me because I continue to try. If we keep getting up, you've probably heard the analogy, you know, you're never going to lose if you don't quit. And that's what I'm here to say, is if we're going to hear, well done, my good and faithful servant, I just want to help encourage you to get in this game of life or get into this battle for the souls of men. And let's start swinging for the fence. Let's start kicking Satan in the teeth and let's start getting him out of here., and we need to start destroying the works of the devil. We need to start taking ownership of this planet, this world here, and instead of just succumbing to the ways of this world and all of the things of this world, we need to move the kingdom of God into this world, and we need to start getting the world to fall in line with God's way of doing things. And so that's what I'm going to talk about in the next few episodes, and I've got a couple announcements that I'm going to make But this kudzba thing, I think that that's pretty cool. And I just want to encourage you to, to just ask God, what can I do? When you start looking at John 14:12 where it says, most assuredly I say to you, all these works you will do and greater works. Let's not even talking about the greater works. Let's just talk about everything that we saw Jesus do. If you have seen Jesus do it, you can do it. You have to be a disciple of God, or you have to have that faith that if you read it in the Bible, faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God. You've got to get into that Bible. Again, this is a couple soapbox moments in this episode, but we have got to be in the word of God. There's such an attack on the word of God, and there's such an attack on God's people. We need to start fighting back. And we don't have to be ugly, we don't have to be rude, but we have to understand that this is a battle and that our opposition doesn't want you or I in the Bible, and they don't want us giving credit to God at all. And every time that we fail or we mess up, the enemy is going to come in like a flood and say, see, you, you stink, or you suck, or you whatever. And I probably shouldn't say all that. The enemy's going to talk nasty to you. You know it, you've heard it. And he's going to just tell you you're not worth anything. And I want to remind you of Romans 8:1 where it says, there is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, that walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. There's no condemnation from God. So if you mess up, just get up, dust yourself off, and let's go get after this again. And we need to, as the body of Christ, we need to quit settling for layups. When there's a 3-pointer that you got somebody open, or if you're got an open 3-point shot for the basketball analogy, take that shot. Or if it's half court and time's running out and you got to get something in, take that half court shot. We're going to read the story of David and Goliath. And I've just got to tell you that that story doesn't have near the impact if Goliath was 4'2" or if Goliath was 5 foot and David comes at him 13, 14, 15 years old fighting a grown man, but he's 5 foot tall. The reason that story has power is because this guy was a giant. This guy was larger than life. He had everybody scared to death. And David knew that with God on his side, this giant was going down. He was not in the covenant. He was not protected, and David knew it. So we're going to stop there. I can feel myself going off on a tangent, and I've been long the last few episodes, and I want to make this one a little bit shorter. But I want to encourage you to have a little coup de spa. Think of something that you can be spiritually audacious with. The audacity just to think big. And just to give God credit and the glory. And let's pray real quick. God, I thank you so much for your word. I thank you so much for brothers and sisters in Christ that listen to this episode and that write books that encourage, empower, and inspire us to be better than we probably would be without the help. Lord, we thank you that we can lock arms with one another and we can get encouraged by other people and what they say in their journeys. And God, I wanna pray for this listener. Lord, they're still here listening, and I wanna speak power and love and authority into their life, and I wanna bind up Satan in Jesus' name, and I'll cast him out of their life. I cast him out of my life. We love you, we thank you, we ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
