Christian Podcast Looking at how King David was spiritually audacious for God

Greg Ryan teaches on spiritual audacity using King David as an example. David was chosen not for his appearance but for his heart after God, and his willingness to face Goliath models faith-filled action. Ryan argues that Christians, as new creations in Christ, share in the King of Kings' authority and should live boldly in spiritual warfare.
Welcome to episode 272.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I'm continuing on the spiritual audacity lesson. I'm gonna be on this for a little bit because I think this is important for the body of Christ to kind of get a hold of this. Now, I don't know if I'm saying this properly, and I don't know that I'm communicating it the way I want to communicate it, but you and I need to be more audacious in our walk with God. We need to have some chutzpah. Something changed when I read that, and I kind of felt my back kind of bow up, and I kind of felt my, my energy level go up. And, and it is— it's exciting to get that kind of reaction. And I know we don't go by feelings, we go by the word of God, but I think God kind of steers me sometimes, and hopefully I'm listening better. I I've got two big ol' ears, and sometimes I don't always listen like I should. And I wanna get back into this lesson, and I've been threatening for multiple episodes to talk about King David, and I really wanna dig into that. I'm gonna give you some homework assignment. I know I can't give homework assignment on a podcast, but I think it's really important that you read a couple of chapters before we meet in the next episode. The two chapters that I want you to read are first, Samuel 16 and 1 Samuel 17. That's just 2 chapters, it's not a big deal, but I want you to pray when you're reading that and ask the Holy Spirit to bring some of these things to life to you. I, I need you to kind of picture what's going on here. Kind of shows you how God chooses his kings. It has absolutely nothing to do with what you look like or whose family you're born into. Now with David's case, it It had to come from that lineage. But you and I, it does not matter who our mom and dad were. The only thing that matters now is who's our Daddy in heaven, and have we declared Father God as our one and only God? And I think that's important. I know I've jumped up and down on this, but I wanna get involved in this episode real quick and talk about David because the spiritual audacity. I want you to see how David act, because God said that David was a man after God's own heart. And I think we ought to try to pursue God and his face and his heart. And I wanna hear, and I want you to hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." I want us to start building the kingdom of God and start doing things more for God's kingdom than for our kingdom. And I'm doing that as best I can. And you know, we've gotta make money. We've gotta do some things down here, but it can be with a kingdom mindset. I just wanna challenge you, 'cause God is challenging me to refocus on doing what you do down here, but do it with heaven in mind. And with that said, I want us to go to 1 Samuel 16. I want you to remember that David was not even Invited to his anointing party. Samuel the prophet came and was going to anoint a new king, and he told Jesse that he was coming and wanted his sons to be at this feast. And Jesse got all his sons there except the one that Samuel was to anoint. And Samuel goes through— I'm not going to read all that to you, but Samuel goes through all this, and surely the anointed is before me. And God said, don't look at his stature, I have rejected him. In 1 Samuel 16:11, And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all the young men here? Then he said, There remains yet the youngest, and there he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him, for we will not sit down till he comes here. So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, Arise, I Anoint him, for this is the one.' Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. So I'm going to stop there real quick. David was the chosen one. And I want to remind you also in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29, I'm not going to read that or go there, But it says, for you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise, not many mighty, not many noble are called, but God has chosen. And, and we, we'll read that later on, but we're not going to do that today because I want to get where I'm going. I just want you to picture God did not pick who someone else would pick. God is picking that person that has got a heart for God. And that loves God and, and is just dedicated to service and love. I think it's pretty evident that David was out there serving his father. He was a shepherd boy. He was out there with the flock. That's not a gloriously wonderful job. I don't think anyone grows up in life and just hopes and prays that he could be a shepherd boy, but David took it and he was good at it. And then we're going to see that he was anointed, king, but then went back out into the field. When Saul calls David into his house, and that's why I want you to read 16 and 17 because I'm not going to go into all that because I want to go into 17 where we see Goliath for the first time. I want you to think about this in the mindset of this spiritual audacity, and I just want you to picture young King David, and he is a shepherd boy. He's gone to work now for Saul since the Spirit of God came on him, He has found favor with the king. Things are changing for David pretty rapidly. He's back home when Goliath is challenging all of Israel. We see Jesse, David's dad, saying, hey, go up to the battle and get— bring word back. They didn't have newspapers back then. They didn't have texting. They didn't have internet. If you wanted something, somebody had to— a messenger had to come bring it. So he sent his son up there. And he sent some cheeses and he sent some other things up there to the captain, Jesse's boy's captain. And I'm guessing that's kind of a bribe. Hey, keep my boys back from the battle, or don't put them right on the front line. I mean, I don't know, but I think that a tradition to, hey, bring some cheeses and some meats or whatever to the captain, make sure that my boys are taken care of. We're going to pick it up in 1 Samuel 17:20. So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with the keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him, and he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle. 1 For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army. 2 And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers. 3 Then as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistine, and he spoke according to the same words, so David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid. And I'm gonna stop there real quick because I want you to kind of get this picture. David was anointed king and he went back out as a shepherd boy. So I want to remind you, just because God has given you a ministry or given you a call, put a calling on your life, anointed you as king. And Jesus declared himself as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords in Revelation. If you've accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are a king. And I want to get on my soapbox real quick. I think there's a movement or a thought or a feeling in the body of Christ that since we are all sinners, or we all once were sinners, that we're still sinners. I can't be more adamantly opposed to that idea. I believe that everyone is born into sin. I believe that sin is in the world. I believe the Bible is true, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. So we are sinners, Christ died for sinners, but then we say a prayer, we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised Christ from the dead, we are saved. Now, that don't mean that we don't sin anymore, but I believe we become a new creation, a new creature in Christ, and I believe the Bible calls that a saint. And I— you just got to bear with me for a minute, but we were a sinner and then we become a saint. We become a child of the King. We become a king, and now we're in a position to do for God and his kingdom what we couldn't really do while we were in sin. And because our spirit man was dead, and I'm not going to get into my spirit, soul, and body teaching, but your spirit man, when you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, your spirit man comes to life. And I believe at that moment, your spirit man is just exactly like Jesus. And your spirit man, one-third of you, is God-powered, God-inspired, God— now all you're— they got the mind of Christ. All of that stuff is going on in your spirit man. And I believe right there your spirit man is king. Now Jesus is the King of Kings, so he is the top king, and you are subject to Jesus, King, King Jesus. But you are a king in God's army, and I want you to see that. You are not some sinner, some worm that can barely get out of bed in the morning. You are a king, and you are more than a conqueror. And that's why this spiritual audacity is just getting all over me because you know my favorite scripture. If you've been here a while, you know it's Revelation 12:11, and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. So we have a covenant with God. We have been placed under God's protection. We are now in his kingdom. We have been translated from this world to another world. We are not of this world anymore. And I don't claim to understand all of it, but I understand enough of it to where I know that I am a child of the King, I am in the body of Christ, and I am a king. And so now I need to start taking some of this authority that I've got as a king, and I need to start using it, and you need to start using it against the enemy. And I think the enemy has done a wonderful job of keeping us down and keeping us dumb and keeping us lied to, all of that stuff because we're not in the word. Again, Jesus says his disciples will abide in his word and they shall know the truth and the truth shall make them free. The only truth, that's John 8:31 and 32, but the only truth that sets you free is the truth you truly know. So that is why I always talking about getting in the word. That's why I have the word of God in every one of my episodes because that is the most powerful thing that you or I own or hold in our hand. And I just wanna stop here. I know I'm going long and I just, I can feel myself getting ready to go into the whole lesson and I'm way past 10 minutes and I'm trying to cut this down a little bit so it's easier to digest and easier to consume while you're going to work or while you're working out. And I don't wanna just keep rambling on. While you're thinking and praying about this, I want you to think about King David And I want this scripture, I've got one more scripture that I want to read, and I want to remind you that John the Baptist came and was a messenger and the prophet that was declaring, "Make straight the way," and he was the one, the voice that cried in the wilderness, and he was sent before Jesus to get everybody's heart prepared. And John did his ministry wonderfully. Before John was killed, John sent some of his disciples to talk to Jesus, and Jesus said after they had left— and I'm not going to get into that, but we're in Matthew 11:11— and he said, 'Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not one risen greater than John the Baptist, but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.' And I want you to think about that, what Jesus just said. Those born of women Every prophet, every king, every person that was born of a woman up into that time, God said there was none greater than John the Baptist. So when I— we looking at David, I want to remind you that Jesus called John the Baptist out as being the greatest up until this time right here. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And I want to stop there because David was mighty. He was— had mighty men. He was a great leader. He was a man after God's own heart. Jesus was saying that he was under John the Baptist as being greater in the kingdom. So I want you to stop. I want you to chew on that because we're going to keep seeing how audacious, spiritually audacious David was. And I want to just encourage you, you and I are going to get after this thing and we're going to keep going in and we're going to keep digging in. And I thank you for being here. Let's pray real quick. God, I thank you so much for everything you've done in my life. I thank you for this listener or this person watching YouTube, and I want to pray in Jesus' name that you would encourage and power and inspire them to get into your word and to let the word get into them. Lord, we thank you. We love you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
