Discover King David power and learn why you walk in greater power

King David was the most powerful human king after Jesus because he stayed humble and relied on God's word. The host explains how believers access greater power through faith in John 14:12, and why God picks the weak and despised to shame the mighty.

Welcome to episode 312. I want to jump right into this episode. We're going to talk about how do we use the power that God gave us in the New Testament versus how the Old Testament believers use God's power. Well, let's start this episode like I do all the episodes: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. You know, if you've been here multiple times, that I love the Apostle Paul. I'm more like the Apostle Peter, but I read the Apostle Paul because that's like over half of the New Testament. So I have looked at everything that the Apostle Paul has written. I've read and reread, and in every— almost every epistle, he starts it with grace to you. If you've ever wondered why I start all my episodes like that, it's because if it was good for the Apostle Paul, it's got to be good for you and I. Well, let's dig in to the scripture. I want to remind us of— in the last episode, I closed with a scripture John 14:12, where Jesus said, Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father. And we've talked about this multiple times. You know I love that Bible verse, so we're not going to even talk about why I love it, but we are going to look at everything that Jesus did. He's telling his disciples, hey, you're going to be able to do that too. And so we got to put that in the back of our mind. Now, if you don't know what Jesus said, again, this is soapbox moment. We have got to be in the word of God and allow the word of God to get into us because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. That's Romans 10:17. So we've got to hear this word of God. We've got to put it into our hearts. We've got to hear it with our spiritual ears. And we've got to learn to apply that to our lives. I want to go to the next scripture. There's going to be a lot of scriptures on this. Episode. If I didn't say that already, there's going to be a lot of scripture on this episode, and I want to contrast because I'm talking about Old Testament, how they did it in the Old Testament, and the New Testament. And let's look at what Jesus said in Matthew 11 about John the Baptist. Matthew 11:11, assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist, for he who is least in the kingdom of heaven greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of God suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. And we have got a t-shirt in the background. I've, I've put the t-shirt back here. I love this scripture. I made a t-shirt about it because I believe we need to be violent in this spirit realm. And that is not violent beating somebody over the head with a Bible or beating somebody over the head with a club or your fist. The violence is using our spiritual tools against our spiritual enemies, and that's what we need to learn to do. That's how we walk by faith and not by sight, and there is a difference. I need you to hear that, that Jesus was saying that, hey, up until this time, all of these prophets, all of the people that came before Jesus, John the Baptist was the strongest. We're not going to look at John the Baptist, we're going to look at David. We're going to look at King David because I believe he was the most powerful king to ever walk the earth other than Jesus. But King David is a great example, and I want to show you how King David operated. It, it said, the Bible said that David was a man after God's own heart, and I believe there's a couple of characteristics that made God love David, and one of them was his humbleness or his humility. He didn't think himself all that great, and in fact, he just obeyed his father. And we're going to see that when Samuel goes to visit him and anoints him. And the second thing is David understood the word of God and knew how to use it. He knew he was under covenant, and he just leaned on that promise. He leaned on the word of God. And I believe that those two things, the, the knowing the word of God and being humble And we're going to see that. Let's go to 1 Samuel 16:1-13, and this is where David is being selected. Samuel is going to Jesse and his sons, and he's— just to give you some background, I, I want to be able to give you homework. I don't know that I can give you homework, but read, read 1 Samuel 16 and 17. I know I've had you read that before, but it is a great story. And if you are going to be a king for— in God's army and Jesus' mighty men, we need to understand what it takes to be a king. And Samuel had come and Jesse had lined up his sons, and Samuel was looking and trying to figure out who God was going to anoint to be the next king. And he'd run through all of the sons, and we're getting up to verse 11. And Samuel said to Jesse, are all the young men here? Then he said, there remains yet the youngest, and there he is keeping the sheep. 9 And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him, for we will not sit down till he comes here. So he sent and brought him in. 10 Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes and good-looking. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this is the one. 11 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. I want you to see that the Spirit of the Lord came upon David, and I want to remind you that Jesus said that John the Baptist was the greatest of all men born of women. But the Spirit of the Lord was on David from that point forward, from being a, a young man out in the field. And David went back out in the field to tend to the sheep. This is the humbleness or the humility part. David went back out into the field. He continued to be a shepherd, and God started opening doors. And if you'll read 16 and 17, you'll start seeing how God starts opening the doors. But it's not you get anointed and you start walking in your kingdom. You are now anointed of God, but now you need to start applying some of these things. You need to let God start opening doors. And that's one of the areas that I get in trouble and have gotten in trouble in is I just start walking through thinking kind of like Peter, just jumping in, you know, ready, fire, aim. I just get out in front of God multiple times, and I'm trying to stay back. I'm trying to keep this thing slowed down, and it's a struggle for me, I've got to admit. But I'm just here with this podcast a couple of times a week. I'm just bringing you the word of God. And I want to end it with a scripture in 1 Corinthians that I absolutely love. This is my calling, and I think if you'll just listen to this or read this and let it become part of your calling as well, that you will see yourself in the Bible. This is where I first saw myself doing what I'm doing today, because I'm thinking, you know, I've got the punk in my head. I know you probably got him in your head telling you you're not worthy or telling you who's going to listen to you, all of those things. The punk's a liar, he's a thief. Don't listen to him. Listen to the word of God. Get in the word of God. Allow the word of God to get into you. But let's read 1 Corinthians 1:26-29. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen. And the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in his presence. And again, that's 1 Corinthians 1:26-29. And that just shows you that God is not going to take the mighty, the wise, the noble. God's just going to choose you or I. God's just going to choose just a regular— that's why I say that I believe that I've been called of God, I've been chosen of God to do this podcast Now, if 5 people listen, that's great. If 5,000 people— it doesn't matter. I'm doing this just to encourage, empower, and inspire you. You are here, you're listening to this episode, you're watching this. This episode I created for you to encourage you that God can use you, and you are more powerful than the most powerful prophet that walked the earth before Jesus got here. It says that in the word, says that in Matthew 11:11. And 12, you are powerful. We need, as the church, we need to get back our power. We need to walk in faith and not by sight. We need to quit listening to the punk. We need to quit listening to the world. We need to quit listening to our neighbors or our spouse or whoever's trying to pull us down. We need to get after it, and we need to bring God's kingdom into this world. This world sadly needs more Jesus. And we need to— you and I need to be the one to bring it. But I don't— I'm gonna feel myself rambling on. I've got some more to say about this. We'll pick that up in the next episode. But let's pray. God, I thank you so much for your word. I thank you for this listener. I pray in Jesus' name that you would just encourage them with your word, that they are chosen just like I am. And God, we thank you, we love you, We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
