Discover the Jesus pattern and how to apply it to your life part 8

Greg Ryan breaks down Jesus' three ministries—preaching, teaching, and healing—and maps them to human nature: spirit, soul, and body. He uses Matthew 4:23, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, and Genesis 1:26 to show how the gospel addresses all three parts of who we are.
Welcome to episode 137.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 137. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. How wonderful is it if we are walking in the grace and peace of God? That is just an awesome start to every day. If you just think about grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, you could probably click off the podcast. You've got all you need. But if you're still here, I want to continue our talk with the Jesus pattern, and I showed in the previous episode about the pattern of Jesus taught in their synagogues, he preached the gospel, and he healed all manner of sickness and disease. So Jesus taught, he preached, and he healed. And as you read the two scriptures that I talked about yesterday in Matthew 4:26 and 9: 35. And let me read them real quick as a refresher in case this is your first episode ever. And Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then his fame went throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, paralytics, and he healed them. Great multitudes follow him. And then in chapter 9, verse 35, then Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. So there's two examples where Jesus taught, he preached, and he healed. And I want you to keep those in your mind. And, and if you'll go back to the previous episode, I actually picked up 3 other scriptures in Matthew where it talked about where he taught the people, and I think that was starting in the Beatitudes. And then he preached the kingdom, he talk— told them to repent and preach that the kingdom was coming or near. And then he healed, I think it was the leper, he touched him, he said, if it be your will, and he said, you can cleanse me, and he said, it is. It is my will, or be cleansed, or something. I, I know I'm butchering it, but I read it in the previous episode. What I want you to think about in those two scriptures is that he— there were three specific things that the each verse said. He preached, he taught, and he healed. I think those are the three verbs that I want you to kind of concentrate on: preach, teach, heal. And then with that in mind, I want to go to 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now I want you to see the pattern if you can, as you're driving or working out or mowing the grass or whatever you're doing at work. Maybe you shouldn't be listening to me at work. But if you're at work, I want you to think about spirit, soul, and body. Paul breaks them up in 3 specific different parts, but the same person. And remember, we're made in God's image, and we talked about on the previous episode— I don't remember which one— but it's Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Those are 3. That's referred to as the Trinity by some, but it's, it's 3. There are 3 parts, one God. And again, I'm not going to tell you that I understand it all. In fact, I don't understand much of any of it on how it all works. I know that the Holy Spirit is here with us. He, he will never leave us nor forsake us. This is what— when Jesus said that he would pray the Father, when Jesus said in John 16:7, nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I depart, I will send him to you. Well, Jesus has departed Jesus went in Acts 1, you see, where he ascended into the heavens. And let's just go and read it since this is a Bible study. Now when he had spoken these things, while they watched, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward the heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into the heaven? This same Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven. So that's pretty much all the proof I need that Jesus is gone. The Bible says he's gone, and so I haven't seen him walking around, so I'm assuming that Jesus is gone. And so when he, he said, because Jesus is the truth and he cannot lie, he said that if he departed, that that he would send his helper, the Holy Spirit. And he has sent him. The Holy Spirit has come. The Holy Spirit is here on earth. The Holy Spirit is everywhere. He's leading, guiding, and direct us. I wanna go back to the spirit, soul, and body reference that Paul in 1 Thessalonians, and that we are made in God's image. And that goes all the way back to Genesis where God made them male and female. He made them in their image. Let me read that. It's in Genesis 1:26. Then God said, let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Then God goes ahead and blesses them. But I said all that to show you the Trinity. As you're driving or working out, there's— it says, let us make man in our image. And us and our are plural. So we got three, the Trinity. I'm not going to teach on the Trinity, but I just want you to see that there are three parts. There's the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And then there's three parts to man. Spirit, soul, and body. I know this may be a little overkill for some of you, but I just want you to be able to see that we are three parts: spirit, soul, and body. And Father God, the Jesus, his Son, and the Holy Spirit are three parts and one God. So when it talks about being made in our image, now we have a likeness to God and we have characteristics and all of that stuff, but I want to talk about the three parts. The spirit, soul, and body, because now I want to tie that back to Jesus' pattern if I can, if you don't mind. And when I go to Matthew 4 again and I read, I want you to hear the three parts. I want you to hear, remember, we preached, we taught, and we healed. And I want you to think about spirit, soul, and body. When you— what do you think Jesus preached to? What, what part of man was— is Jesus preaching to? And what part of man is Jesus teaching? And what part of man is Jesus healing? And that's the point I want to make as we revisit these verses in Matthew. And I'm going to read Matthew 4:23 one more time. And Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then his fame went throughout all Assyria, And they brought to him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them. Jesus was speaking to the whole person. He was speaking to spirit, soul, and body. The spirit man is the one that gets saved. That's the one that's pre— that you preach the gospel to the spirit man. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have a dead spirit. Your spirit man has not come alive. It has not been born again. So it is— has the original spirit that you were born with, and that is not the spirit that gets you eternal life. So Jesus preached the gospel to the spirit, then he taught in their synagogues. And the soul is your mind, will, and emotion. And when you are taught— and what I'm doing right now is I'm teaching God has given me a gift of teaching, and so I am teaching to your soul. If you accepted Christ, your spirit man is just like Jesus. You have the mind of Christ in your spirit, but your soul—your mind, will, and emotions—that's where Romans 12:2 kicks in and tells you, 'And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.' If It is your mind. You preach or teach, you teach to the mind, you preach to the spirit, and you heal the body. Preach, teach, heal. And I want to remind you that Jesus did all three of those things. And we're gonna go, we're gonna dive into Acts in the next episode, and then I'm gonna finish up, I think maybe two episodes from now, I'm gonna try to make, bring this all together. On the, the former and latter rain. And because if we have the Acts church at the early church, what's going to happen at the late church? You know, we have a former and a latter rain, and I just kind of want to introduce that. I don't know if I'm gonna— I don't think I'm gonna go too deep into that concept, but I just want us to get thinking about, look, this is how the church started. Told you multiple times on this podcast that Jesus is one day closer to his return today than he was yesterday. That's a given. We know this to be true. We know that he's coming back on a specific day. You and I do not know the day or times. Jesus told us in Acts, the first chapter in Acts, before he ascended, that that's in the Father's authority. So we don't need to know. We're on a need-to-know basis, and Jesus said you don't need to know, you just need to be ready. And that's what we're doing. That's what we're doing this podcast That's why we're digging into the word of God. That's why we're praying. That's why we're doing— we're getting ready for Christ's return. And what better way to get ready than to spend 10 or 15 minutes a day thinking about and learning about the word of God? And I appreciate you being here. Let's pray real quick. God, I thank you so much for the person listening to this episode. I thank you for your Holy Spirit. I thank you for your word. I thank you, Father, for sending your son And Jesus, thank you for coming. We have to agree to die on a cross for my sin and to be raised from the dead 3 days after. God, it is so awesome. You are so cool. You are so powerful. You are so wonderful. Lord, we thank you for everything. We look forward to your return. We love you. We thank you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you on the next episode.
