Do You Have A Different Spirit Part 2

Greg explores Numbers 13-14, where only Caleb and Joshua gave a faithful report among twelve spies sent to Canaan. That's about 17% who had what Greg calls a "different spirit"—trust in God instead of fear. He explains how real faith doesn't ignore facts but trusts God's word anyway.
Welcome to episode 79, In the Beginning Was the Word.
And the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 79. We're still in the middle of 'Do You Have a Different Spirit?' This is part 2. I think I'm going to conclude on this. You'll be able to have the answer to this. And remember, I gave you a percentage: 16.67% of the people, I think, and, and maybe even in the Christian community, have this different spirit. And I'm gonna, I'm gonna elaborate in this episode But if this is your first time listening, I want to welcome you to the, to the podcast. And if you have been here over and over again and can't get enough, you are definitely a fanatic. And I want to thank you also for being a part of this. You are the reason that I'm doing this. I enjoy teaching. I'm kind of scratching my teaching itch, and I enjoy digging into the Bible and then sharing whatever I think God is telling me and that I get excited about, I hope that you get excited about it as well. Well, I want to recap where we were. We sent out 12 spies. Now, these were leaders. This is in Numbers 13. These are leaders in Israel. They're one from each of the 12 tribes. God told them to, to go out and spy out the land. Then Moses sent them out with instructions. Tell us, is it, is it a good land? Is it strong? Are the people strong? Are they fortified? All of that stuff, that's in the last episode. You can go go listen to that. The people was out there, they were out there 40 days spying the land, and they were taking notes. And we— there's 12 of them, and 2 of them, Caleb and Joshua, they were there with— there were 2 of the 12. But the 10 that gave a bad report, there were 10 of these guys that gave a bad report, and they got the people all stirred up. And like I said in the previous episode, God was probably fired up. And I'm, you know, and I'm trying not to put words and feelings into it, but I'm trying to figure out. If I was a father— I mean, I am a father, and I've given gifts to my children, and sometimes they've gotten excited, and I've just loved, you know, the feeling that you get when you've, you know, you make them happy and they, you know, just excitement. And then you also may, if you've given gifts, if you've given enough gifts away, then you'll see sometimes what the reaction is not exactly what you're looking for. If you've put a lot of effort into it and you've put a lot of thought into it and you know that this is the best thing for them, and I'm now inferring that, that, you know, God knew Canaan and he knew everything that was there for his people. He, he created that and he was waiting on the time for it was, it was ready for them. They'd been in captivity with the Egyptians and he had freed them up. They had crossed the Red Sea. The, the Egyptian army is dead behind them and now we're going to move them into the Promised Land. And the 10 spies get the people all fired up. So after the 10 spies open their mouth. Caleb, if we go back to 13:30, then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it. Caleb wasn't denying that the report that they were fortified cities, and he wasn't denying— you know, some people use faith like, you know, if you got a big lump on the side of your head, well, I don't have no lump, there's no lump there, you know. Faith is not denying the facts. Faith— when you start exercising faith in the Word of God, it's recognizing that in the physical realm, yeah, I may have a lump on the side of my head, but the Word of God says— that's when you take the Word of God and you trump. And it says the name of Jesus is above every name. So even if the lump on the side of your head has a name, it's below the name of Jesus. And so, you know, you don't have to deny you got a lump on the side of your head. And I, and I don't know why I'm talking about a lump on the side of your head. I, but it's, you know, if just as an example, something that's, you know, way out there. But, you know, you don't have to deny that. But what you do, and what I do, is I take the name of Jesus and I just start hammering it. And I've told you, I've kind of got a little marble, marble slant to me. I mean, I enjoy the Marvel kind, always have as a kid, and then they started making the movies and all that stuff. But I kind of see the, like Thor, I, and I've told you this in a previous episode, but I see the, like the hammer of Thor and it, but instead of having, you know, the God of Thunder thing, I've got Jesus written on that hammer. If you can picture that, I've got to picture stuff and I know I'm maybe just a little bit weird, but I mean, you're just gonna have to deal with it. But I take this hammer that has Jesus' name on it, and the name of Jesus is above every name. And if you can imagine with that hammer in my hand spiritually, then I take the name of Jesus and then I just pound whatever the other name is that's below the name of Jesus, and I bring that hammer down on whatever problem that I'm looking at right then. And again, it goes back to one of our anchor scriptures, death and life's in the power— that's not the anchor scripture, but that's Proverbs. 18:21, death and life's in the power of the tongue. In Mark 11:22-23, Jesus said, have faith in God, for whoever says, say, whoever says unto this mountain, be thou removed and cast in the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes whatever things he says, he shall have whatever he says. When I believe the name of Jesus is above every name and I start speaking to whatever issue, and I start calling it by name and cursing it to death. And just giving you a little insider baseball of how I pray when I start getting on to something— if I start getting like a dog on a bone, if something comes, if something starts coming after me, or something starts coming after my family or friends or whatever, if you ask me to pray, I just start— I just start putting the name of Jesus on it. And God's— you know, Jesus said, use my name kind of like a power of an attorney. And so I do, I use his name. And I don't know who was supposed to hear that because that's not in my notes, but we're going to go to, to 14:1. So all the congregation lift up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. I just can't imagine, but I got to move on. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, if only we had died in the land of Egypt. Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt? So they said to one another, Let us select a leader and return to Egypt. And Moses and Aaron knew that was bad juju. They knew that was a bad deal. And they knew— see, and I think when you say stuff— and I say 'you,' but when people, they don't think that God is listening, you know, for, for whatever reason. But I've told you, one of the most fascinating, one of the most amazing scriptures is John 16:7, where Jesus said, 'It's better for you, it's to your advantage that I leave.' And it's just amazing because he said it— Jesus, Lord God, raising people from the dead, blind eyes open, deaf ears, leprosy, all that stuff, telling his disciples, it's better if I leave. And he sends this, the Helper, the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit, he said, it will never leave us nor forsake us. So the Holy Spirit is here all the time, and he hears everything that we say, good, bad, and different. And I'm not saying that for any reason, but I'm saying it to make this point, that God heard these people. And Moses and Aaron because they were spending time with God, they knew this is a problem. And they— this is what— look at what Moses and Aaron did in 14:5. Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Juh-whatever— you know, English is not my first language— who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes. And they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, the The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread. Their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them. And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Now the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the congregation of Israel. And guys, I just looked at the clock and this may have to take another— I didn't realize this was this juicy. This was a— this is a pretty cool story and it has a lot of applications, but I guess this is what God wanted. But I want to give you where I get the percentage. We had 12 spies. We had 2 of the 12, 1 out of 6 of the spies had a good report. 1 out of 6. And I am gonna— in the next episode, I'm gonna let you in on what God says. And if you want to just kind of read ahead a little bit, you can pick it up. It's in, it's in Numbers 14 where we're— where we left off. But I want to thank you. I, I don't want this to go over a little over 10 minutes or so because I want this to kind of just pick you up for the day and get you thinking, kind of just get your mind moving in the direction and see if you are one of these one of six. Would you have been like Caleb or Joshua after watching all this? You know, it says be careful that you stand lest you fall. You know, I, I think unless you humble yourself and know that God's in control, I just don't think the majority of the people have just submitted, I guess, overall. Not that they haven't accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but submitted themselves to God, Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. You're trying to push your kingdom and your agenda, and I'm, I'm really not. In this, in this podcast, I'm doing this to give God the glory and just to open up your eyes and my eyes to how wonderful the word of God is, and to try to dig out some nuggets and kind of some cool stories and just maybe a different way of looking at things. And so since I've kind of got a Numbers mentality. You know, I'm better with numbers than I am with English, obviously, if you've heard me talk. I've got a 1 out of 6 gave a good report, and that is— you do the math— I think that's 16.67%. So 17% of the people are going to give a good report. And I think we'll just round up because it's our privilege to do that since we're doing math and we want to keep it simple. You know, some of that new math they're talking about, we got to do some— we got to make it more simple. And I think that's complicated. As all get out, but that's a whole nother issue. But we're going to round it to 20%. So we got that 80/20 rule going on, and we're going to leave it there. So we're going to give it to— we're going to do the 16.67% because that's kind of how I started this thing. We're going to finish up this on the next episode, but I want to pray for you. Father God, I pray that if the person listening to this believes that they are in the 16.67%, I want you to encourage them and strengthen them and help them in their walk today. And if the person listening is not quite sure or thinks, well, I don't know, I— that there was a lot going on, I want to pray that you would give them the courage, Lord, to stand up to the to the enemies that come against them. We have got a lot going on, and I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth that you would strengthen every person listening to this. And I thank you, and I ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, that's enough for this episode, and I'll talk to you in the next one.
