Doubt and Fear Out of the Abundance of the Heart the Mouth Speaks Part 2

Greg Ryan uses the Parable of the Sower to explain how believers prepare their hearts for God's Word. He describes four soil types—hard, rocky, thorny, and good—and shares how 29 years without Christ changed when he studied Scripture. True spiritual fruit only grows when you stay connected to Jesus.

Welcome to episode 87. If this is your first time here, we start every episode the exact same way, in the Gospel of John 1:1.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast. Where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 87. If this is your first time here, welcome aboard. If you are a frequent flyer, welcome back, you fanatic. Well, I want to continue our conversation on "Out of the Abundance of the Mouth the Heart Speaks," and I want to remind you that our heart can be hard, it can be soft, it can be rocky, it can be full of weeds. This is the part that when we talked about the kingdom of God is like a seed, where Jesus was talking about where the man scattered the seed, and that's on a previous episode back a few tens or 15 episodes ago. I'll try to link to that in the notes. But the heart is what, is where we plant the word of God, and it's your heart, and it's as you dig into this word and as you get this word into you, and get the other stuff out of you is where it will start really growing and where you're really gonna see some really good results and really good crops. The fruit of the Spirit is grown. And in order to grow the fruit of the Spirit, you have to be in the vine. You cannot produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit without being in the vine. And the vine is Jesus. And the Jesus, as we've said multiple times, on multiple episodes, Jesus is the Word of God. If you want a physical representation of Jesus Christ, you need to get into the physical Bible. Because— and why I just continue to beat this drum, and if you've listened, you're gonna— maybe it's starting to kind of sink in that the Word of God is Jesus. When you hold the Word of God, you are developing a relationship with the Son of Man. You are learning how he— when he was here, it reminds you how he addressed situations, how he did things. And you start becoming like the person you spend the most time with. And the cool thing about God, when you start spending time with God, God doesn't change. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The cool thing about spending time with God is God will change you as you spend time with him and in his word, and it's an effortless change. It is the change that goes on. If you look at trees or if you look at a garden, if you look at plants, if you look at an apple tree or an orange, you see how effortless those trees grow and those plants grow. And if you'll go back to, all the way back to Mark 4, the chapter on the seed, and the man sows the seed, and the seed— and let me just read it because as I, as I'm talking about it, I kind of want to— I want you to picture this. And it's in Mark 4:26-29. And he said, the kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow. He himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself, first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come. And if you've been with me a while, you'll know that it all starts, it all starts kind of coming together. If you start thinking about your heart needs to be softened so you can plant the ground, plant the seed, and the seed is the incorruptible seed of Jesus of the word. And so when you plant this seed into your soft heart and you pull all of the other garbage out that we talked about in Mark 4 about the kingdom of God is a seed, there's 4 types of soil. And we're talking about the heart now. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. But in order to get the heart right, and you start seeing all of the, all the things that I talked about in previous episodes about humility and humbling yourself and being broken, That's digging that hard, that's what God uses. If you can kinda picture like a rototiller or a, you know, if you're gonna get the soil ready to plant some seed, you need to break that soil up and that's kinda where all of the brokenness and all of the humility and humbling yourself and repenting, that's God just kinda digging. The Holy Spirit is gentleman, he's kind, he's not gonna take advantage, he's gonna, when you are ready and you say, God, I wanna humble myself and you say, look, I wanna turn away from all that mess I've been dealing with. That's God kind of breaking up that soil. And as you look at the 3 types or 4 types of soil, one's the hard and has never had any kind of rototiller or any kind of tiller on that soil. That's hard. When you throw the seed on top of that, the birds eat it. The next one has got a lot of rocks in it, you know, and it doesn't have, it's not real deep 'cause it's got rocks in it. So when the seed goes in, it comes up quick, but there's no root in the ground. The next one has a bunch of thorns and thistles It's the cares of this world. And the last one is the good soil. And if you'll notice on the good soil, it's got less of everything. It's not that you got to have more, you got to have less. And if you've ever done a garden and if you've ever dug rocks out of your garden bed, or if you've ever gotten weeds and they keep coming back, it's a constant battle to have a garden. And for anyone that says, oh, gardening is easy, well, they've never— probably never done it, or they haven't done it where I do it. Because it is a constant battle. There's weeds pop up and you think you got them all out and here they come again. And there's rocks as you're digging, there's— you'll see another rock in the soil. So when you're getting your heart softened for God, and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, you've got to have some soft soil. But in order to get that really good, good soil, you got to get all that other crud out of there. So it's not, it's not having more It's having less. So once you get all of your— you get your soil ready, and that's what God does, and that's what he does in your word, in the word. But you plant that seed, the incorruptible seed, and then it starts growing inside of you. And that is as you water it and as you meditate on it, as you take care of it. And if you're spending time in this podcast, you're getting the word of God. I, I try every day, every podcast episode, to get you some of the word. So that you can kind of just with one thought kind of picture, wow, that's pretty cool. And maybe you don't, maybe you kind of roll your eyes. I mean, I'm all right with that too, but it's still your— the word of— the word will not come back void. So if you hear the word of God, it may correct you or it may help you in a situation that you're in. That's my whole motivation, is to help you get closer to God and have a better life, because I'm telling you, when I dig into this word and I start living it as it tells me, it's not easy, but it's simple. You read it, you dig all this garbage out of your life, and then you just put in this word, this truth, this kindness, this gentleness, this faithfulness, self-control, all of the things that the fruit of the Spirit gives you, it makes your life so much better. And I'm telling you, if heaven was not the reward for a Christian life, I'm 99% confident that I would still walk with Jesus even if heaven was not my eternal reward, because it is a much better life. I have been on both sides of the fence. I told you, for the first 29 years of my life, I didn't know God from a billy goat, and I'd run after the things of this world, and everything that I ran after was a lie. I thought it was what I wanted, but when I got it It was like, eh, I don't know, this, I thought it would be different. But when I start digging into the Word of God, now it takes time and it takes effort, but what in life that's good doesn't? You know, the things that are the best and the most joyful usually don't cost you money, they cost you time and effort. And if you spend time and effort in the Word of God, I'm here to tell you, he is not a respecter of persons. He will bring his word to pass. I'm telling you, God is so cool. I had none of this in my notes. Somebody, or we're trying to— I guess God is trying to pull this whole lesson into the heart. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. But we have got to get our heart right, and we have got to make sure that soil is ready to plant the seed. And when you think about that seed that goes into the heart, you've got to plant it in the ground. And that seed— and I, and, and in my community, and in my first lesson, if you will, if you join, the first thing we're going to plant, the first seed that we're going to plant, is the kingdom of God. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Because the world is chasing after things and they forget to run after God. If you'll do God first, you do his the kingdom of God and his righteousness. If you figure out the kingdom of God and his righteous, God's way of doing things, everything else will be added to you. And that's that wheel in the middle of the wheel, and that's kind of how God, God's got me so on top of that. I've got a picture of that now. I'm fired up to show that to you. And I've got the four living creatures, the four faces, and the foundation. Gonna be a great place if you wanna hang out. With like-minded believers. And I guess that's my advertising. I haven't had my sponsor on here in forever, and he's— I've quit listening to him.
He—
I quit taking his calls, but he had— he's still jumping up and down asking why I haven't talked about it. But I wanted to say, you know, the things that, that I'm doing right now to point to this community where believers can be lifted up. And I'm working out all the details on this community, and I'm trying real hard to make it because I'm ready, fire, aim. If you've listened to me, I want to put it out there right now. It's a process, and I'm creating, and I've got to tell myself in my little pea brain that I am creative. And that's one of those things that I have a hard time telling myself, that I'm creative, because I can't draw anything, and I can't— I mean, I'm very bad at English and writing, but to be able to picture something and put it together I mean, I've, I've done a lot with this episode, with these podcasts. I look back at everything that I've done and all of the things that— and what God has done through my hard-headedness and just making up my mind, the power of that made-up mind. I'm 87 in, and I'm not slowing down. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to get to 287. I looked up at the clock, and this is going longer than I wanted, but I want— I wanted to— God wanted us to talk again about that the ground and about the seed and about the effortless change and about the Spirit. We have got— there's so much coming together that, that we can't get all in one episode. But I want you to be thinking about your heart. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. But you got to get your heart ready. We've got to humble ourselves. We got to dig out some of those rocks and some of that garbage that was in there that Satan has put in there, and the cares of this world and the the flesh and all of the— and Satan talking to it. We got to get all that garbage out, and then we're going to have some good black dirt soil that we can throw that seed, the word of God, in. And we don't— we're not going to know how it grows. That's the other thing about that scripture that I read in Mark, that it does— that the man sleeps by night, rises by day, and sleeps by night, and he don't know how it grows. So we don't have to understand all of this. We just need to continue in planting the seed and nurturing and watering the seed and make sure that if there's anything coming up in the ground around it, like weeds or something, that we can pull it out. Well, let me pray real quick for you. God, I thank you so much for this person listening to this podcast. You know right where they are. And God, I pray in Jesus' name that they would start digging digging up any kind of rocks or any kind of thistles or any kind of tares that are in the soil. Lord, get it, get it out and get it prepared for the word that you're wanting to and that you're able to plant into their heart. And God, I thank you and we love you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you on the next episode.
