Faith and Hope How to deal with unbelief part 4

In this episode of the No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, host Greg Ryan continues his series on unbelief. He opens with three personal reminders—God’s love for each listener, God’s lack of anger toward them, and the fact that each day brings believers closer to Christ’s return. Ryan then explains his ministry’s purpose: to help people hear God’s truth, discover their God‑given purpose, and build God’s kingdom. He offers a concise gospel overview, citing John 14:6 and describing repentance, confession, and faith in Christ as the path to salvation. The core of the teaching focuses on Jesus’ response to the disciples in Matthew 17:19‑21, attributing their inability to cast out a demon to unbelief and emphasizing that even a mustard‑seed of faith can move mountains. Ryan uses vivid analogies—imagining a massive rock or mountain and a powerful truck—to illustrate the magnitude of obstacles versus the power of even tiny faith. He then outlines practical spiritual disciplines—prayer, fasting, humility, and seeking God’s wisdom—as means to overcome deeper unbelief that cannot be removed by Scripture alone. Throughout, he shares personal struggles with consistency in Bible reading, self‑reliance, and acting without prayer, modeling vulnerability. The episode concludes with a heartfelt prayer asking God to reveal and remove listeners’ unbelief, and an invitation to continue the journey in future episodes.
Welcome to episode 101, In the Beginning Was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 101. I am going to continue with unbelief in this lesson. I think I'm hopefully going to finish up on it, but I wanted to continue episode 100. I mean, I was so excited about getting to 100 that I forgot to tell you a couple of things that I wanted to tell you, and I apologize. And I, again, this is my fourth month of doing this, so I'm not really wonderful at it yet, but I'm getting a little bit better, hopefully. The thing that I wanted to remind you was that you are God's favorite. If God had a refrigerator in heaven, your picture would be all over it. And the second thing, God's not mad at you. He's not even a little bit upset. And the third thing is we are one day closer to Jesus' return today than we were yesterday. So I wanted to remind you of those three things. I hadn't said them in a while, and I just wanna continue to keep that at the forefront of why we're here. And the second thing that I wanted to say is that when I started praying about doing this and asking God what he wanted me to do, and I had that little Zig Ziglar thing going off in my head saying, "If you'll help enough people get what they want, you'll get what you want." And I was wanting to hear, and I still think I want to hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." And maybe even, I've changed it a little bit, "Well done, my good and faithful son," because we are sons of God. In order to hear that, I also believe that I need to help other sons and daughters hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant," or, "My good and faithful son." I'm not sure my life, the direction I was going— I mean, I wasn't doing a lot of bad things. In fact, I really wasn't doing much. I just was kind of maybe not drifting, but I kept talking about doing something and then not doing it. I don't know if any of y'all ever suffer with that, where you get an idea and you're thinking about doing something and you just keep thinking about it and you keep talking about it and the next time you wake up, it's 6 months later or a year. You're doing New Year's again, and you're going, oh, I need to do that. Well, anyway, enough of all that. I just wanted to put that out there. I forgot to put that on episode 100, and I'm fired up. But I do want to help people. My whole desire is to help people get in the word of God, and the only way to hear well done, my good and faithful servant is to hear from the truth and find out what God wants you to do with your life. Not what I want you to do, or not what your parents or your wife or your husband or your kids think you should do with your life. It's what does the God— why did God make you? Why are you here on this earth? And we're all here, I believe— this is Gregology, but I think it's pretty close— I think we're here to build the kingdom of God. And when we do what God designed us to do, his kingdom is expanded. And that's God's whole desire, is he wants to have relationship with you and I, and he wants to, to pull in the lost. Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost, and we're all lost. All have sinned. All of us have missed the mark. God's put his arms out and says, come on, kids, but he's not gonna pull anybody in that's fighting him. Or that doesn't want to come. You know, he's not going to force you into heaven. You are going to have to request to get into heaven, and the only way to enter is through the name of Jesus. And it— that's Matt— that's John 14:6. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I don't know who needed to hear that, but there you go. One more thing. I didn't have that in my notes, but God wants you in heaven with him, but you have to make the first step. You have to repent. You have to fall down on your knees and say, "I have sinned. I have transgressed your law." And God will say, "That's okay. I beat the crud out of my Son and I put all of your sin on him at the cross. If you'll just accept what he did for you at the cross and the resurrection, if you'll confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Christ from the dead, you shall be saved." It is that simple. It's simple, it's just not easy because you got pride that comes in. You've got to humble yourself, you've got to repent, you've got to turn away from the lifestyle that you're living. All of those things have to happen for God to come in. You have got to humble yourself and you have got to die to self to accept Jesus as your Lord. Well, okay, let's start talking about unbelief now, now that we've talked about how to get saved. And I don't— again, I don't know who's supposed to hear that, but I, I'm just speaking to this microphone and I'm trying to be obedient to what I feel like the Holy Spirit wants me to tell you. And someone needed to hear salvation again, and whoever it was, if it was you or if you know somebody, let them know, because that is the whole reason Jesus came. He came to come and get his kids and get back the relationship that he lost when Adam and Eve bit the fruit. Matthew 17:19, then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, why could we not cast it out? And we're talking about unbelief. And listen to what Jesus says in 20. So Jesus said to them, because of your unbelief. And then there's a colon there, or semicolon. Again, English is not my first language, but he just stopped. He answered the question. The disciple said privately. They came to him privately, pulled him aside, or in the house afterwards, and said, why could we not cast it out? So Jesus said to them, because of your unbelief. And then he goes on, for assuredly I say to you, if you have the faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. Think about that. Think about if you had the faith of a mustard seed, just a little. And Jesus wasn't saying that it's, you you know, it's, it's got to be a mustard seed. He's just talking about a little tiny speck of faith. If you have the God-given faith, you can move mountains. And I want you to picture, because I, I've got to get us to picture, because we're going to start talking about hope and faith in the next episodes. But I want you to start picturing, I need you to picture a rock. And I'm not talking about a little rock, I'm talking about one of those big old rocks stuck in the earth. Somewhere, and maybe even in a desert, but it's, it's stuck in the ground. And I want you to get the biggest, baddest pickup truck in your mind, and I want you to get this big old chain, and I want you to wrap this chain around this big old rock, and I want you to try to start moving it. And I want the truck to spin and smoke and cuss and kick and scream, and this rock just standing there, and the engine just blows up That's how big this rock is that you're trying to pull or even just move. That is a big old rock, and you're not going to move it with a pickup truck. I don't care how big an engine you got. But think about the mountain— now we got a rock, but now think about how big a mountain is. And I've been to Colorado, and I've been to some other mountainous areas. The word that comes to my mind is majestic. It's just awe-inspiring to look at it. People spend buku's money to have a view of the mountains. I mean, it's not like a lake, it's just walk up, you know, go outside in the morning and sip your tea or coffee and read your Bible and look at the mountains. And it's something about it is just awe-inspiring. It's wonderful. And I mean, I wish— here I'm in Louisiana and I just see that kind of the same thing wherever I'm driving. It's just kind of flat. There's not a whole lot of undulations, if you will. There's not a lot going on in the landscape. But I want you to picture a mountain. And Jesus— because God does not lie— Jesus is God, he's the Word. And he says that if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can say to the mountain, 'Be removed and cast from here to there.' This is where he said, 'From here to there.' Well, you can just move a mountain and it has to obey you. Nothing is impossible. That is incredible. That is such a wonderful promise, and we're going to talk about that promise later. But I just want you to picture, because he answered their question, they said, why, why couldn't we do it? And Jesus just flat out gave him the answer: it's because of your unbelief. Look, Bubba, you can't do it because you don't believe you could do it. And then he goes on to elaborate that if you just had the faith of a mustard seed— and there are multiple times And we may get into that in this teaching, but there's multiple times where he says, 'You faithless and perverse generation,' or, 'You faithless,' 'Where is your faith?' 'Why do you not have any faith?' 'How long will I suffer with you?' I mean, he's constantly trying to get them to exercise their faith. And it's just in that teaching, and it's where I want you to think when you're strutting around, you think you've got all this stuff together Look into the Word of God and it shows you just how little you have together. I mean, I'm just talking to me now, and I read this thing, I read this Bible every day that I can. I, you know, there's some times when I'm just busting out the door or I wake up late or something, but you know, I'm not going to tell you that I read my Bible every single day and I never miss a day because that's not true. There are times when I, you know, I just don't get to it. I don't— I'm not proud of that, but there are times, you know, I'm not perfect. I never claimed to be perfect. I protect my morning time, and I wake up early, and I get into the Word of God, and I just try to let the Word of God get into me. I want to put this point down that Jesus said it's because of your unbelief. Then he elaborates and talks about what, what it takes, and it doesn't take a lot of faith, very, very little faith. But you have got to get rid of the unbelief. And then in 21, he goes on and teaches his disciples that this kind of unbelief doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting. So there's some unbelief that you got to get serious with, and there's some unbelief that you just can't get rid of by reading the Bible. You got to talk to God. You got to ask for help. That's again asking for wisdom and, and understanding you've got to ask for a little bit of help. And that's just— and I've got a lot of this 'I got this, God' in me, you know. I, for whatever reason, and I've talked about this before, but there's times when I just don't feel like it's appropriate to talk to God about this. I just, 'Well, look, I'll just do this,' you know. And that's me, quote— and I'm putting the air quotes up again— but it's me trying to do it on my own and grow up in this faith. So I don't really ask God for any help. I think, you know, let me do this, God. And instead of just talking to him and saying, hey, this is what I think I'm going to do, and then be quiet for a minute or 30 minutes or a day waiting on the answer, I just jump in. And so I get myself into some pickles sometimes, and I get myself into some binds that I shouldn't have— ought to got into. And, you know, and I look back at other Bible characters, I look at Abraham or Abram He did the same thing. He didn't pray about having sex with Hagar. His wife, Sarai, said, "Hey, what about the maidservant? What about Hagar?" You know, everybody has got their issues. I'm no different than you, but God's not mad at me. God's not— he's not even a little bit upset. He's just trying to guide me into action. I think God just will not steer a parked car. And I believe that we just need to get off our butt and we need to start getting after something. Even— and that's why I'm here. And I, I want to pray real quick. God, I thank you so much for the person listening to this podcast. Lord, I thank you, and I, I pray in Jesus' name that you will reach out and touch them. Lord, help them see the unbelief, and Lord, help them get it out of their of their body. Get it out of their mind, will, and emotion. God, we thank you, we love you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to meeting with you on the next episode.
