How a woman with an issue with her blood used faith to fight for her life

A pastor breaks down the biblical story of a woman with a bleeding disorder who defied social shame to touch Jesus and be healed. He pulls five lessons from her faith: stop caring what others think, believe in both the spiritual and physical realms, speak your belief out loud, and take action on what you hear from God.

Welcome to episode 333. In this episode, I'm going to take a look at the 5 truths that we talked about in the previous episode, and I'm going to apply it to this woman with the issue of blood. But before we get started, grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I'm going to bring in one more scripture than I've talked about in previous episodes, and it is— I've, I've touched on it before, and you may remember it, but it's in Proverbs 29:25. The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. And I want you to think about these words when you're looking at the woman with the issue of blood. We're going to use the example to start off in Mark 5:25-34. Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for 12 years and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 43:40 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 43:41 For she said, "If I may touch his clothes, I shall be made well." 43:42 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. 43:43 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that power had gone out of him, turned around in the crowd and said, Who touched my clothes? But his disciples said to him, you see the multitude thronging you, and you say, who touched me? And he looked around to see who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your affliction. Now, in a previous episode, we used this woman with the issue of blood to talk about what faith looks like. And, and I know that we're kind of digging into this and we may move on to something else. I don't know, I'm getting a little bit tired of this. I'm probably just going to have to teach a class in this because 10 minutes is just not going to get faith. And I think that's where my frustration comes in, is that this is such a huge topic that it's hard to just get little bite-sized morsels of faith and then understand what we've got. And so I think the frustration is starting to well up inside of me because when I sat down to this, I really didn't want to talk about this today. And that's one of the first times that I've had this feeling, and I don't go by feelings, but I, I'm using the Holy Spirit to try to lead and guide me. And I believe that faith is such a huge topic that we need to look into how we walk by faith, how we walk in the Spirit. And doing this, we looking at the woman with the issue of blood, we looked at the 5 truths. And to fear of man, this lady, if you think about it, she did not care anymore. She didn't care what anybody thought. She knew that she had this thing. She knew she had run out of money. She was so sick of this. And if you don't get to that point, and sometimes God will get you to that point, and maybe that's where I'm at right now is that I am just tired of doing these little 10-minute things, and I feel like we're just scratching the surface of what we really need to be digging into. And so I'm going to open up a class on faith. It's Ezekiel's Wheel, the living creatures. I've been talking about this for, it seems like, years now. We've got the spiritual animal quiz that kicks everything off. We're going to get this thing started, but I want to get back into this truth that that the first thing you've got to make up your mind is that you don't care. You've just got to decide that I don't care what anybody thinks, I'm gonna do this Word of God thing. And that's where I'm at, that's what I've been doing for a long time. And faith just kinda rises up. When you start doing that, the Word of God kinda comes to life. I don't know if I'm saying this right, but words start jumping off, you start getting thoughts in your head, and you start taking action. And that's what this woman did, is she said, the heck with all this, I don't care what anybody says. In fact, in the Jewish culture, to be unclean and then to go and touch somebody, you make them unclean. And if they find out about it, they can stone you to death. So this woman really honestly did not care anymore. She said, I'd rather be dead than to continue on this path. And sometimes we need to get that place to where we just don't care anymore, to where we just gonna take action and we don't care what the world thinks. We don't care what anybody else in our world thinks. We're just gonna do this thing. And that's where we need to get. You and I, if you're listening to this, you're a fanatic and I appreciate you being here. You could be anywhere else in the world. You could be listening to anything else and you're here and thank you for being here. I love the fact that you're here, and thank you so much for your commitment and your continued support. This lady didn't care. She had gotten to the place in her life where she just didn't care. The other truth that we talked about in the last episode was that there's a spirit realm and a physical realm, and for whatever reason— and I don't know why, I haven't figured it all out— but we are simultaneously walking through the physical realm and the spiritual realm at the same time. And I don't claim to know it all, but I'm getting a handle on this thing. We are in two different places at the same time. We are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, and we are here on earth walking with dominion. And when we combine those two things, that's that one-two punch. We're never going to redeem this body, but we need this body here on earth to to help facilitate what God wants us to do, to build God's kingdom. And so we have to use this spiritual realm that we are in, in Christ Jesus. Our spirit man is 100% just like God, and we use the word of God, we use the Holy Spirit, we use these truths, we use faith, we use the grace of God, we use all of these spiritual weapons in our arsenal. But we've got to understand that this is a spiritual battle. And this lady, I don't know that she understood this, but she said, look, I'm gonna do this thing. The next thing I want you to understand, that anybody can do faith, anybody can use faith. We don't know whether this lady was a Jew, we don't know if this lady was a Christian, we don't know if she was a believer of Christ. All we know is she had heard about Jesus. That's number 3, is you've got faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God. She heard that there was a miracle worker, there was a guy that was walking around healing people, and she was sick. So she's like, well, I'm a people. So she just decided in herself, I'm gonna do this thing. The fourth truth that we talked about in the previous episode is that faith is voice activated. And if you'll notice, this lady with the issue of blood said with her mouth, if I but touch the hem of his garment, I shall be made well. She said it out loud, she believed it in her heart, and she then— the fifth thing is took action. You've got to take action if you're going to be walking in faith, if you're going to learn to walk by the Spirit. And you don't even have to understand it. I am quite confident this lady did not understand all of the significance of what she was doing. I believe there's a place where you just get fed up and you don't care. Life starts kind of pushing in on you. Or things just start happening, or you're at that place where, look, I'm taking this next step and I don't care what anybody thinks. And that's where this lady was, and she died to self. She knew that if she was found out and if this didn't work, they're probably going to stone her, and she did not care. She died to self. Again, I love Revelation 12:11, and they overcame him, which is the punk, by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. This lady did not care. She was dead to herself. She said, "Something's got to give." And so she stepped out in faith and she walked. Actually, she probably crawled to get to the hem because she said with her mouth, "If I but touch the hem of his garment." I don't know why she didn't say, "If I but touch the belt of his garment," or, "If I but touch the shoulder of this man." No, she said, "If I but touch the hem of his garment." that forced her on her hands and knees, I believe, in the street. You gotta picture this in your mind. This lady who's got this issue of blood, this could kill her, the people in the crowd could kill her, and she didn't care. She made up her mind. She had heard the truth about this healing person, and she took action, and she spoke it out loud, and she got her healing. And the thing I want you to understand, and the second truth is that anybody can use faith. I want you to understand that God did not size her up. Jesus did not see her coming. And I know some people may think, well, yeah, God sees everything. But remember, Jesus was a man and he was God. So he was having to work through. He's doing the same thing you and I do. He's just doing it perfectly. But I don't think he was walking through this life knowing everything that God knew. I think that he could use the power of the Holy Spirit with his word of knowledge or a word of truth or a word of wisdom to then, hey, what just happened? He felt power go out of him, and so then maybe he called on the Holy Spirit to say, hey, who touched me? And I think the Holy Spirit could then say, because God knows everything, the Holy Spirit was there and on him The Holy Spirit probably showed him the woman at the time of her healing. God did not size her up and heal her. Let's read the last verse. And when he saw her, said, be of good cheer, daughter, your faith has made you well. And the woman was made well from that hour. It was this woman's faith, and that's what I want you to see. We have to tie into the power of God. We have to tie into the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Jesus is the Word, so we've got to get into the Word of God, allow the Word of God to get into us, but we have to take action. And that's the part I've got to have you see in this episode, is this woman, she heard about it— faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God— she spoke it out with her mouth and she took action. And if we're going to walk in faith, if we're going to walk in the Spirit, we've got to learn how to do this. We've got to learn what steps we need to take. We need to understand that this word is the truth, that the only way to get free from Satan, from the punk, is to abide in the truth, in the word of God. And I can feel myself going into the next lesson, so I'm going to stop here and let's pray. God, I thank you so much for your word. I thank you for this example. Holy Spirit, lead, guide, and direct us into all truth. God, we love you. We thank you. Please watch over us and guide us and lead us into all truth. Lord, thank you. We love you. We ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
