Imitating Jesus its time to understand everything comes from Father God

Greg Ryan explains why imitating Jesus means understanding that everything comes from God the Father. He uses Matthew 7:13-14 to describe the narrow path of faith, argues that believers can perform Christ's works and greater ones through John 14:12, and emphasizes hearing God's voice through prayer and Scripture as essential to spiritual transformation.
Welcome to episode 193, In the Beginning Was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Spending time in the Word of God is the best way to spend time with God. Welcome to No Doubt, No Fear, Only Believe podcast, where we will encourage, inspire, and empower you to live your best life in Christ. Here's Greg.
Welcome to episode 193. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We are on the fourth stop on the mountain. We're not going in order. I did the, the mountain of God. I did multiple episodes where I went in order, stop by stop, and briefly described, I think one or two episodes, what each stop on the mountain represented. But I want to dig into each stop because I want to help you and help me understand this Christian journey. And in order to do that, I have to have a physical picture representation of where we're head— where we started, where we're going to finish, and the journey as we go. And I've picked a mountain. You could argue that it could be something else. It could be this— a sea. It could be out in the ocean, and I mean, I don't— you can use whatever reference picture you want, but I chose a mountain. And as we climb up this mountain, and I kind of wanted it to be a mountain because it's difficult. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, enter by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. And that is Matthew 7:13 and 14. And we talk about this scripture a lot, but the reason I picked the mountain is because it's difficult. It's narrow. If you think of a mountain pass, it's usually not some big wide road that you're driving, able to drive up. It's a little narrow. I see a little pig trail or a little donkey trail going up the side of this mountain. And sometimes you gotta leave the car trail and you got to climb by hand, and I've kind of got to picture things. So I want you to see that the reason that I picked this mountain is because it's difficult. It's not going to be easy, but the— here's the great part: we have a guide who has already been up the mountain. We have already found— if you read the Gospels, you have seen that Jesus made it from start to finish. I want to remind you the starting point is at point A on this mountain, and I've got it labeled as a child because you got a new birth. And I don't— Jesus was not born again. Jesus' spirit was just like God's from the beginning because he come outside of the Adam bloodline. And I don't want to start chasing that rabbit, but at the beginning God spoke this over him, and that's in Matthew 3:17. And suddenly a voice came from heaven saying, this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. That is— I need you to picture at point A, that is what God speaks over you when salvation happens. When you become a new creation, you go from being a sinner to a saint of God. You're in a new kingdom. You're over on Heaven's Island. You are brand new, you're not of this world, all of that terminology, you have been changed right in an instant. You become a beloved son or daughter to Almighty God, and God is well pleased. So when God looks at you, he sees his son, he sees your spirit, which is just like Jesus, that has been changed. But here's the problem, and the transformation in your spirit is complete and it's instant. But the transformation of your soul, your mind, will, and emotion takes effort. It takes time. It's difficult. It is Romans 12:2. Let's go to that. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. That is our job, is to figure out what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. And I think if we look at how Jesus lived his life, and that's— this is the fourth step, imitating Christ, the Anointed One, then we are going to find all the answers in how he walked and how he lived his life. Started this teaching on Stop 4, the last episode I talked about the salvation, because without salvation, it doesn't matter. Your born-again spirit, you have got to be in the kingdom of God. You have got to be changed. You've got to be a new creation. Then all of these promises, the only thing that you can hear with a dead spirit is the salvation message. That is the only thing that will be quickened into your spirit. These words that I speak are spirit and they are life. But you cannot hear these words until you've been saved. You can practice some of this stuff, but it's never gonna take hold. There's no reason for you to do this. You might as well live like hell, for lack of a better word, and then just take whatever punishment you get on the other end, because if you try to do this thing by keeping all this laws and being good, there's no way. It says that you cannot, because as soon as you If you try to keep the whole law and you fail at one spot, you fail the whole thing. It's like getting a zero on the test.
You—
there's no 99s in God's kingdom. There's 100 or there's fail. And the only person that's ever gotten 100 is Jesus. So that's why we're imitate— that's why we're on this top of the mountain. We need to look at what Jesus did. And again, I want to go to John 14. That is a huge scripture for these lessons. But John 14:6, and Jesus said to him, he was talking to Thomas, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. So there's only one way to God, Father God, and that's through Jesus. We've talked about this multiple times. But then we go down, same chapter, same writer. But Jesus in red letters said, most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these he will do. Because I go to my Father. And that is why it's important to figure out what Jesus did. The first thing that I want to talk about, Jesus did multiple things, and we're going to look at a lot of those things. Now, this is not going to be an exclusive lesson on everything that Jesus did, and I just want to encourage you, I'm reading through Luke right now. I've already read through Matthew, Mark, and John, And I'm in Luke right now reading through the Gospel of Luke. As I'm reading, I'm just looking at everything Jesus did because I've already read through the other 3 gospels that I've talked about. And I just try to get a picture of what Jesus did. And God showed me the Jesus pattern where he healed, he preached, and he taught. That is in Matthew 4 and Matthew, I think, 9. But it's 2 different places in Matthew where he, he He preached the kingdom of God. He taught in their synagogues, and he healed all manner of sickness and disease. He preached, he taught, and he healed. That is the Jesus pattern. And if we're gonna imitate Jesus, I believe we've gotta do all of that. But in order to do that, we have to believe. We have to get into John 14:12, where it says, "I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also." I'm gonna stop right there. We have to believe it. If you believe in Jesus, the next thing you've got to do is you've got to believe that the works that Jesus did, you can do also. That is where you just got to sit and you just got to let that meditate. You got to let that percolate in your soul. Your spirit man already knows this. Your spirit man has the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead living on the inside of you. Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. You have the power. You have been connected to the power source. That's why I talked about endued with power before I talked about this lesson. And I don't even want to tell you why I put this stop on the mountain before endued with power, but there was a method to my madness. I just want to talk about, as we dig down deeper into this, that Jesus represented God in every way. He said multiple times that I'm just doing what Father God is me to do. So the first thing I want you to understand is that Jesus had open communication with Father God. Jesus heard from Father God. He did what Father God told him to do, and he did it perfectly. Now, you and I, perfection is not the goal for our Christian walk. I've said it multiple times that it's reflection or it's correction. We are to imitate Jesus and do it the best we can do. We're also to come to God as little children. So little kids aren't going to get all wrapped around the axle about, oh, I didn't step perfectly in Daddy's footsteps, or I didn't do it perfectly like Jesus did. No, they're just going to go out and they're going to do the best they can. And that's all I'm doing. That's why I'm here on this podcast. I'm doing the best I can. Is it perfect? Heck no, this ain't even close to perfection, but this is me getting after it. This is me being relentless. This is me following after a perfect example with imperfect actions. I'm not doing it perfect, but it drives me into the Word. I get into the Word. I listen to the Word. I read the Word. I let the Word get inside of me, and it's changing me. It changes me every day. And I just want to encourage you that if you will get in, you will hear Father God's voice. You will see what Father God wants you to do. Now, is it audible? Is it like in Matthew 3 where it says, "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased"? I have never heard an audible voice from God, a disembodied audible voice. I haven't heard one from Satan, and I haven't heard one from God., but I'd have gotten thoughts in my head. And you can argue that that was the pizza that I had the night before, or it was something else, but I'm here to tell you that the Bible is what I go by, and Jesus said his sheep will hear his voice. I am a sheep and I hear his voice. Now, I don't do it perfectly. I don't hear it all the time, but I have heard, and I'm not gonna chase that rabbit, but I have heard multiple times, God talking to me. So we have to have a relationship with Father God, and it's a two-way relationship. But mostly what we do is we stay in the Word and we talk to God through prayer. As we meditate on the Word of God, as you meditate on, most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also, and greater works than these he will do because I go to my Father. As you meditate on that scripture, John 14:12, let the Bible speak to you. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you. Let Father God speak to you. God, why did you put that in there? If God did not want us to do the things that Jesus did, why would Jesus have said that? I mean, I just need to ask that question. Is that not supposed to be in the Bible? Or is that just for the sexy people? Is that just for the apostles with a capital A that happened to be inside Jesus' circle of influence, or is this for everyone? I believe it's for everyone. If you're a believer, he who believes in me, it doesn't say the apostles that believe in me, the disciples that believe in me, he said, he who believes in me. So I believe he is talking to you and I in John 14:12. I want to encourage you to get in that. I want you to read it over and over again. It changed my life. It's going to change yours. God's word will not come back void. God is not a respecter of persons. This is a very cool verse in a very cool book from a very cool God. I just looked at the clock. Let's pray. God, I thank you so much for everything that you've done, everything that you're doing, and everything that you will do. I thank you for this listener. I thank you for my life. I thank you for my family., and I pray in Jesus' name that you would protect all of us that are listening to this and that are walking through this life from the enemy, from ourselves, and from others. And Lord, we thank you, we love you, we ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you on the next episode.
