What three areas would you change if you were in charge of the western church?

A pastor outlines three reforms for the Western church: spiritual power to fight fear, deeper unity through love, and a sound mind that moves beyond knowledge to understanding. He frames it around 2 Timothy 1:7 and argues the current church feels powerless, divided, and driven by fear.

Welcome to episode 310. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I am starting a new teaching series, and this is going to be— I hadn't really determined the title yet— If I Were in Charge of the Church Today, the modern church today, these 3 things I would change. And I believe that if we get together as the church, and this is something that just bugs the fire out of me, is how we can, as a body of believers, have Christians fight against one another. We're not fighting the enemy. Paul talks about 4 specific things that we are fighting in the spirit realm: principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Those 4 beings and those 4 entities are who we are to battle, and we're not fighting the right people. So these 3 things, real quick, I want to give you the 3 things that I would change if I was in charge of the church, or the 3 things that I would work on if I was in charge of the church. And the first one be, we need more power. The church, it almost feels powerless in this world. I believe it's on purpose, not the church, but I believe we're battling the punk and he is making the power seem like it's something we don't need or should not want. The second thing is unity. I believe that we are so divisive as the world system in my country, in America. It's not the United States of America anymore. It almost seems like the divided States of America. And I believe unity is something that I would change, that we ought to concentrate those two things. And the third thing I believe we need to work on is our sound mind. We need to get our minds right. We need to get our thinking straight. And I don't believe there's enough of us in the church today that are thinking that are using this brain of ours. We're just reacting. There's 3 different levels, and I've talked about this on previous podcasts, that there are 3 different levels. There's wisdom, there's understanding, and there is knowledge. And I believe just because you think knowledge is increasing, but knowledge to me is just data. Knowledge to me is this video. You can watch this video and walk away after you watch this video and you don't have anything else other than the fact that you watched it. But understanding is taking what you saw or what you heard and putting that together with just sitting down and thinking and letting it go around in your mind. I believe those three things— more power, more unity, and a sound mind. And I think the scripture that I'm going to use for these teachings is 2 Timothy 1:7. And I've used this multiple times. I love this scripture. I think this is one of those scriptures that you need to memorize. If you haven't memorized this, you need to memorize this scripture. And it's, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. And the power— if we are to walk in the Spirit and we are to be Spirit-led instead of Spirit-dead— I've talked about that. We need to learn to walk by the Spirit, and where the Spirit is, there's power. I believe the world is full of fear, and if you don't think that, then you're not paying attention these last 2 or 3 years. But fear has just been poured out. But to beat fear, to punch fear in the face, you've got to have power. You've got to be able to stand your ground, and you have to have something that's stronger than the fear. And I believe faith is always going to beat fear. And this is just an introduction. I just want to get you thinking because I've talked about making these shorter and making these more concise, and I want to get us thinking. These three things— this power, this love, and this sound mind— and I think we can call it power, unity, and sound mind because unity and love, I believe, is the same thing. I think that if we come together in love That's where we're going to be united. And I can't think of anything in our United States that we can as a country unite around. It used to be the flag. It used to be the American flag. Now the Satan has got us so divisive that we can't even talk about patriotism or loving America or making America great without making half of the country all wrapped around the axle. And I don't understand. The only way I can understand it is that Satan is just dividing us, and it's dividing. And God said that a house divided cannot and will not stand. That is in the scripture. And that's why I think we need to come together. That's why I'm doing these videos. I'm going to have a series, probably going to be 4 or 5 videos, on what I believe we need to change. If I was in charge of the church, these 3 things I would change: I would have us walk around with more power, I would have us with more unity, and I would have us thinking better. And the only way to do that is with the Word of God. Think on these things. We're going to get involved with all of that. I don't want to start chasing this rabbit. I just want to introduce this to you. I just want to get you thinking, what would you do? And if you've got some comments, if you want to comment in the section below, I will answer all the comments. I want to see what you're thinking. But these 3 things I would change. I want more power. I I want more unity and I want a clearer mind. So with all that said, let's pray real quick. God, I thank you so much for your Holy Spirit. I thank you that we can walk in power and love and a sound mind and not fear. God, lead us and guide us and direct us and help us to understand your word. Lord, we thank you, we love you, we ask it all in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, thank you for being a part of this, and I look forward to visiting with you in the next episode.
