Good morning, everybody. I want to continue my discussion about the Virgin Mary. Today we're going to talk about the conversation and the encounter she had with the angel Gabriel, and there's going to be a lot of reading. I mean, I don't want to paraphrase this. I want to bring the Word of God straight to you. Just bear with me, but it's in Luke 1:26, and it starts, "Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, 'Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.'" But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel told her— then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David." And he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.' Then Mary said to the angel, 'How can this be, since I do not know a man?' And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. Therefore also the Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is now the 6th month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.' Then Mary said, 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word.' And the angel departed from her. And I just, I really want to just have a real quick, just a real, I just want to get you thinking. Again, that's my whole job. Is to get you thinking about this encounter. Now Mary was a young girl, we talked about yesterday, she was a teenager. She's probably minding her own business, you know, I don't know really what she was doing, preparing for a wedding I would say, and she was probably excited and she just has this encounter with an angel. Gabriel didn't announce it, he just showed up. And if you'll notice in the Bible a lot of times, or most times, when an angel shows up, he's got to say, don't be afraid, because I've got to imagine this is an awful intimidating, uh, being. So they, you know, a lot of people fall on their face, and, you know, I mean, it's, it's a big— this is a big deal. And this, this young girl is just, you know, she's just been— and Gabriel, oh, by the way, is one of the three archangels. So, I mean, this is, this is a big deal, and God sends one of his best to tell Mary that she has been highly favored. And so Mary then has a question. I mean, this is a private meeting. I mean, this isn't on, this isn't an open square. This isn't on TV. You know, we didn't put it on Snapchat or Facebook Live. I mean, this is between her and Gabriel, and Mary then asks the question, how can this be? I'm, you know, I haven't been with a man, I'm a virgin. And then Gabriel explains to her that the Holy Spirit, or the Holy One, will come upon, overshadow her, come upon her, and she will have the Son of God. So then Mary considers it and says— and he tells her about Elizabeth. We'll talk about Elizabeth, uh, tomorrow because we're going to see the question that— that we'll just talk about that tomorrow. But Mary then says, "Be it to me according to your word." Mary accepts the word of God. And that's what I want you to think about today. I want you to think about when you read the word of God, do you accept it? Do you— I mean, Mary was given it from an angel, but we've been given this word. This is divine. This is the holy word of God. And I just want you to embrace this as the truth. This is— this will— this book will change your life. It has changed my life. I was— for 29 years I did not follow God. I mean, I wasn't against him, I just wasn't for him. And I was on the fence. I thought I'd mentally— I thought I had accepted Christ, but I accepted him, uh, 1993, January 16th. Actually, it was January 10th. I'm sorry, my son was born 16th, but it was January 10th, 1993 when I accepted Christ. But it was, it was, it was a, it was a whole, there was a whole lifetime of hearing about and, and coming to this decision. But Mary just heard from him and accepted the word of God, and that I mean, as I read in this, I get, I still am in awe of this young girl and the responsibility that was put on her and how she just accepted it and how she lived with it. And we're gonna talk a little bit about, a little bit about maybe, and I just want you to think about her today as you go through, that this was, I mean, this was an incredible deal. Mary being a virgin was then betrothed. She was about to be married, and we find in another place that Joseph, her husband— you know what, all of a sudden your betrothed woman who's a virgin shows up pregnant. I mean, there's a lot going on, and so she just stayed firm. She stayed fast, and it is incredible. It is unbelievable, I mean, it's believable, but it's incredible the responsibility that this young lady took. And I, you know, that's enough for today. We're gonna talk about Elizabeth and her husband and Mary and how they reacted to the word of God tomorrow, but I just want you to ponder the virgin birth. I mean, we talked about it a couple times now. It had to come. From the, the bloodline had to be— it could not be from Adam's bloodline. This is the Son of God. It had to be from a virgin. Mary accepted that with her words, and we've talked about the power of your words. Mary, by saying, yes, I'm— be it to me according to thy word, she accepted the responsibility of having the Son of God inside of her. So that's enough for today. Again, I want to thank you. I want you to ponder that. Get in your word, read it for yourself. It kind of jumps off the page. It's a really wonderful story. I mean, usually, it's usually told around Christmas, but you know, I mean, it's important any day. So he, even in September, it's important. So if you like this, like and share it, post it, comment, share it, whatever you do, subscribe. I appreciate y'all sticking around, and thank you for listening.
