YouTube Quick Bible Study What Do Belief and Unbelief Look Like?

Moses sent twelve spies to scout the Promised Land. Ten reported giants and fortified cities, spreading fear. Caleb and Joshua trusted God's promise instead. The speaker uses this moment to show how belief and unbelief happen at the same time, and how one shapes the other.

Morning everybody. I kind of want to get back on track to doing the, the moment of truth in the morning, just because it starts my day off better. But I wanted to talk about what we've been talking about, belief and and faith and unbelief, but I would kind of want to show you an example in the Bible where you can see both. I think it's one of the best examples that I've seen where it shows unbelief and belief in the exact same instant. And we pick it up in Numbers 13. This is where Moses— and it's 13 and 14, and if you want to get the whole story, which I suggest you do, obviously I'm always trying to get you to read your Bible, but if you'll read Numbers 13, chapter 13 and 14, you see the whole picture. But Moses was going to— they've gotten, you know, they've just been, they crossed the Red Sea and they were going to— they were getting ready to go into the Promised Land and God told him, told Moses to send 12 spies. Now these 12 spies just weren't 12 random people, these were leaders from each of the 12 tribes of Israel. So Moses was commanded to get leaders to go spy out the land and bring back a report. And so what we're going to see is, is the reports that these guys bring back. We're going to see unbelief and belief. But then we're going to pick it up in 13:27. Then these, these were some of the spies that went out. Then they told him and said, we went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless, the people who dwelled in the land are strong. The cities are fortified and very large. Moreover, we saw the descendants of Anak there. So they, they were like, yeah, everything you said, God said what he said, it was right. That man, look at the fruit, you know, they had to take grape on two poles, you know. I mean, it was incredible, the clusters of grapes. And they come back and said, yeah, yeah, yeah, all that was good. But you ought to have seen the— you should have seen the people that were there. The descendants of Anak were there. So, I mean, they're getting all the people all riled up. And then Caleb, we're going to see the belief now. We're going to see Caleb. Then Caleb— and this is in 30, 13:30— then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, let us go up and take— let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it. Then I read on, but the men who had gone with him said, we are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are, than we. And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, the land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the giants, the descendants of Anak came from the giants, and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, so we were in their sight. And so, I mean, you see this, you see this report, you see unbelief. You were told, hey, everybody was told, Moses told them, look, we're going to go in, we got this promised land, God has given us this land. You know, it was the word of God, it came from God to Moses, so we're going.— they got delivered from Egypt, and it wasn't just walk around in the desert. It was delivered to go from Egypt to the Promised Land. That was God's— I think it was like a 3-week, 3 or 4-week journey. I mean, it was going to take 3 weeks, a little bit of hard walk, you know, through the desert, had some struggles, but it was going to— in 4 weeks, a month, they were going to be led from being slaves and captives to a land flowing with milk and honey. And God had this thing, you know, I'm thinking, you know, and I kind of got to picture stuff. So I'm just got picture God going up, man, I can't wait till they see what I've given them. You know, and so when they get this report, we're gonna see tomorrow, I'm gonna kind of cut it off there, 'cause I want y'all to just think about, I want y'all to see, we're talking about leaders, we're not just talking about 10, 12 random men, we're talking about the leaders of this, of this, of these tribes. And they were, they were given the same information. They were said, you know, God has, God has given us this land. This is, this is the land God's promised us. This is the promised land. So go over there and take a look at it and bring back the report. You know, it, it wasn't going— I mean, they just were going to spy it out, tell it, you know, and tell all these millions of people you know, what we're about to get. So, I mean, I just kind of want— I wanted to be a quick little update or lesson because I want y'all to think about, you know, what is unbelief and belief really look like? And I, you know, because I've got to picture stuff, and if I see something mentally, it locks it in better. For me to understand it. So I'm looking at what, you know, if God tells you something and then how you react to it or what you do with it. So in, in the last lesson, I said, you know, if we believed everything in the Bible, if we had the same faith with no unbelief, we'd do the same thing that, you know, that Jesus— we'd work the same miracles Jesus worked. Because he had no one. He knew exactly who he was. He knew exactly who his father was, and he knew exactly what the promises were. And see, I think when you read the Bible, you see the promises, but you think, ah, I'm not, you know, we're, you know, I'm just a grasshopper in this situation. You know, I'm just nothing. But if you, if you truly know who your father is and you truly know who Jesus is then there is nothing, you know, there is nothing that's impossible with God. And so we're gonna dig into this some more. This is a pretty, I mean, I really like this unbelief and belief lesson just because it shines some light on how people really react and how, you know, and I've got a story too of my, of how I figured out how I've got a boatload of unbelief. So, and I'll give you that testimony, that story too. But anyway, I just want to kind of wrap it up and let you kind of chew on that, what I've talked about, the belief and unbelief, and what we can do about it. We're going to find out what happened tomorrow, and if you want to read ahead, you're welcome to. It's in Numbers 13 and 14. But I just want to say thanks. I appreciate y'all stopping in.
