A jeweler cuts away a loose rough diamond's setting, detaches the band, solders it onto a custom cup, then bezel-sets the diamond back in place. The whole repair takes a few minutes to show.

The rough diamond on this ring is a bit loose, and the wall is quite thin. To reset it, I release the rough diamond by cutting the wall all the way around from the side. Once the wall is lifted, the rough diamond is free. As the band is fine, I detach it from the original setting, solder it onto the new setting cup I have specially made to hold this rough diamond. Finally, I bezel-set the rough diamond back on the ring. Now this ring is ready to go back to its owner.
