A short spoken-style video segment about styling alternatives to jean jackets. The speaker recommends cropped cardigans, cropped trenches, bombers (including suede), button-up shirts worn as toppers, army/utility jackets, and layering techniques (thin/stretch denim under blazers or coats, and zip-in dickies). Overall claim: jean jackets aren't dead but are being worn differently; alternatives can serve the same 'third piece' purpose.

If you are totally over jean jackets and you're like, I never liked them in the first place, or it's just not my thing, but I still need something to be my third piece. What should I do? Cropped cardigans, That's a great option. It works sort of in the same way where it's hitting at the waist. So it works over a dress. It works with trousers. It's amazing. We're seeing so many cardigans. They are very, very on point this year. A cropped trench, that's also a great option. It serves as a topper, and it isn't typical. It's not your denim jacket. The other thing is a bomber, but not a denim bomber. It could be a suede bomber. I love the idea of that. And it just gives the texture play, the proportion play and the topper play. So it's awesome. I've also seen a lot of button ups being used, which button ups, again, are so great. And we're seeing them all over the place, all different price points, all different colors, all different fabrications. But people are wearing them just sort of thrown over as a jacket or a third piece. And it's a great alternative to a jean jacket, army jacket. That's something that sort of hit its peak a while ago. We hadn't been seeing, but I'm seeing more of them coming, like, out of the woodwork. I don't know if you necessarily want to resurrect your one from, like, the early 2000s, 2010, but it's that same idea of something in an army green. Because I think the reason we love denim so much, especially as a tool, is because it serves this purpose of it's a working man's fabric. And because it's a working man's fabric, like a utilitarian fabric, pairing it with something that's typically dressier helps dress it down, and that's where we get the interest in the outfit. So an army jacket does the same thing. And then the last thing that I really love is layering a denim jacket. So I layer a regular denim jacket, one that's thinner and has a little stretch. So it's like a hybrid. It's in between a denim shirt and a denim jacket. And I'll put that under a blazer, under a overcoat or a trench or something like that. And it's great because it offers warmth and it offers interest. And then I also love the dickies that. That zip into the jacket so it looks like you're wearing a denim jacket, but it doesn't have the bulk. What's the moral of this TED Talk? The moral of the TED Talk is that I don't think jean jackets are dead, but I think the way we're wearing them is a little different. And I think if you love your denim jacket and you don't want to give it up, then looking for alternatives to serve the same purpose, whether it's in denim or in another fabric, are the way to go.
