If you've noticed, layering necklaces has become a big style trend. But there's an art to what people are calling the neck mess. I don't even know that that's called that, so I'm out of the loop. Our three new style contributor, Hallie Abrams, however, knows exactly what to do.
I would say that life is short. Wear the jewelry.
Jada Kinkoff is the creative force behind Porter Feet, a non traditional jewelry store in Rocky River.
Spending 10 years in the luxury jewelry industry, I realized there was nobody pairing these beautiful, wonderful, talented artists. And I figured if I didn't do it now, someone else was going to. So I did it.
Jada's quickly become known for her unique offerings and jewelry philosophy.
Even if you're bombing it for the day and you have a T shirt and sweats on, throwing on just like a really great necklace really kind of lifts you up and makes you feel more together.
And Jada says mastering the perfect neck mess is key.
I like to mix it up so you don't want to have, say, three or four necklaces where it's just a simple gold chain and a charm. It's a little too one note, but.
It'S also about knowing proportions and playing to your necklines. So we asked Jada to show us how it's done. First up on model Gaby, the button down.
We're going to keep everything kind of up in this area. We don't want anything to fall down too low because it's going to get lost. So your top layer here, you're going to have the charm that's anchored into the chain.
Jada suggests incorporating beads for a pop of color and added depth.
And we're sticking to 18 inches and above. So this is an 18 inch chain with a single gold charm from it. They lay really well. They're not exactly the same. It's kind of a really great combination for this style.
Next, we're talking V neck sweaters.
Again, we're going to keep the top real estate heavy with your jewelry. So we are using the same a necklace that we had from the button down sort of like as our anchoring piece. And then we added this paperclip chain that has little gems that hang from it that kind of just give a little bit more depth and dimension. Below that is a lariat. And then the pop of color, we have this malachite really thin beaded necklace. So it kind of zhuzhes up the neutral sweater.
Our final neckline is the classic crew.
We are able to draw the attention down because you have this canvas to work with. So this is where you're going to kind of pull in your longer necklaces. This long beaded one here with the pyrite is 34 inches. Throwing some little charms at the end. This guy here is 24 inches. Next, we added a chunkier chain because again, it's going to stand out against the plain white tee.
JJ says try to find pieces that have adjustable length, like this paperclip chain.
Having the versatility with the chains and the extenders and being able to clip things at different lengths, you want to make sure that they're not competing too much with each other. So that is why we kind of have this nice little spacing gap between all of the necklaces.
Is there a perfect necklace length?
It's going to differ on everybody's body type, but I think an 18 inch chain works for basically everybody, and then you can build on from there.
Hallie Abrams 3News Taking notes for your wife?
She does not take fashion tips from me. She just doesn't.
No, I mean, for you to get her something for.
Oh, yeah, sure. Well, it looks like I need to get her more than one necklace.
Yeah, I know.
If you pay attention to that now, if you notice, she spent all of her time talking about women's necklaces. And, you know, I'm kind of watching this thinking, well, I'm a guy. What do I do? How do I handle my necklaces?
I think we have a picture of that.
Well, I have a picture of what not to do. I think we do mo. Do we have that picture? Yeah. Now, this is called Mr. T starter kit. There's a lot of layering going on there.
And what does that say? Is that. How much is that?
It says 29.95, but that's just for the poster. If you want to buy all of the gold seen in that shot, it's about $77,000, I think.
I literally thought it was 29 DOL. 29.95. We're not far away. Yes.
I mean, the man knew how to wear multiple necklaces at the same time. I mean, he could pull it off, but very few can.
I agree with you.
So I don't know what I should do with my necklaces. How do I layer?
I think you're okay.
I've worn a St. Christopher around my neck from the time of my first communion.
I love that.
It's not the same one, but I've always worn it and that's it. Less is more for me.
I agree.
Okay.
