Early 2022 fashion trends include 'Gorpcore', 'Pearlcore' looks inspired by Gen Z

Stylist Haley Abrams breaks down two early-2022 trends: GORPcore, which layers outdoor gear like hiking pants and flannel, and Pearlcore, built around pearl jewelry and embellished pieces. Don't mix them. Both work across genders, with men increasingly wearing pearls.

Now, this is the only way I can get into the station. It's Fashion Friday, and with a new.
Year comes new trends, and she is fashioned out. She's got. Are those purple? Yep, purple shoes to match the little purple stripe in the jacket. Very well done. RWKYC fashion expert Haley Abrams, founder and lead stylist at the wardrobe consultant, shares a few looks for both men and women to try out in 2022.
One of the things we've seen coming up in trends recently is this idea of core fashion. It's really aesthetic definitions that typically younger generations are looking for. So I'm gonna focus on two cores, one for men and one for women that are ageless and also very wearable. So the first one I want to talk about that we've been seeing in a lot of places that I think is sort of an offshoot of the whole pandemic. And it's what they're calling GORP Core. GORP stands for good old raisins and peanuts, which is the trail mix that hikers use. And it's the idea of that very functional, almost looks as if you're hiking, but you can be on the city streets. So it's like a polished hiker. One of the things I love is the bloodstone boot. Men and women can wear it. It's traditional, it's Australian, it's been around forever, but it is durable. And it also looks good with jeans, and you can even wear it with khakis and sort of if you're dressing down a suit. The idea of a flannel for guys is great. It is something where if in your office or walking down the city street, you need to have a collared shirt because we want to still be polished even if we're zooming with people, but it feels cozy. A lot of these technical materials keep you warm and also wick away sweat. And last but not least for the guys at rei, there's a brand called Cool. It's truly hiking gear. And these pants supposedly feel like sweatpants, and they're not quite as hikerish as a true hiking pants. So again, you can get away with it if you're going away for a weekend, if you're going to work in a more casual environment, what's going on with the ladies is something called pearl core. What we've been seeing recently is people wanting to take their old school pearls and wear them again. The cool thing is that stars like Harry Styles have started showing that men can wear pearl necklaces. So sort of those old school pearls and Layering it. And if you saw the reboot of Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, in many scenes, is wearing a single strand of pearls, but layered with other more casual pieces. And that's a great way to wear traditional pearls for pearl core. But the cool thing about pearl core is it's not only the jewelry. It's getting incorporated into a lot of clothes, like my shirt. So things are getting embellished. I was able to find it Dillard's, this really great, just easy gray again embellished with different size pearls. So it's great because your jewelry is built in like, this is truly a one and done. Throw it on, walk out the door, and you're good to go. And the other place I've been seeing a lot of pearl embellishment is on shoes. I found this Alex Marie loafer that has the pearls. And again, sort of like the bloodstone, it buys into that trend of a lug sole and a loafer. Understandably, someone would say, hey, it's Pearlcore. Do you wear both of these together? My answer is, no, you do not. So each of these are the hero of the outfit on their own.
All right, so Halle has a private Facebook group called All Dressed up with somewhere to go where people can post pictures and ask questions about fashion. Just search for the name and request and join. And she is amazing.
She's great.
She gives me a run for my money.
Yeah. Oh, wow.
I mean, she really does.
Because, you know, one of the things that has driven me the most crazy over the last couple of years with the show is we can't have live guests in studio. We used to have Hallie in somewhat regularly, and she would do these fashion statements, talking about the pearls quickly. And I mentioned this in the break. And now I've shown Jasmine a picture. Jock Peterson. I don't know if this will show up. This is a player for the Atlanta Braves. All season long, he played wearing the pearls.
Yeah. So.
And he would not tell anybody why he was doing it.
It has to be lucky.
I think so. Or maybe they were sentimental to his mother or grandmother or whatever. But. And since Jock started that trend, I have seen other men wearing pearls.
All right.
I just thought I'd say that.
