Following the 3-3-3 rule when shopping a sale: Expert advice from Wardrobe Consultant Hallie Abrams

Wardrobe consultant Hallie Abrams explains the 3-3-3 rule for smarter sale shopping: an item must work three ways, fit three occasions, and pair with three things already in your closet. Know what you own before you buy, replace worn basics, and skip the impulse discounts that pile up unworn.
Pretty much every morning we're talking about the price of everyday items going up, from gas to food to household supplies. So we know every penny counts. This is the time of year you get those promotional emails from pretty much every store promising big discounts well before you shop til you drop, thinking that you're going to save big. Wardrobe consultant Hallie Abrams tells us how to shop smart.
When you're shopping a sale, there are a few really handy dandy tips. The first of which is to know what is in your closet so you know what's missing, but also so you know the things that you love. Very often, shopping a sale is a time to replace and replenish things that have worn out. So something. If you have a white T shirt that you love, it's great. You've worn it a ton, but it has some stains on it. That's a great time to replenish it when you find that piece on sale, because you know you love it already. The second is when you find a piece that is on sale, think about. I call it the three, three. Three rule. So think about three ways you can wear it, three places you could wear it to, and three items in your current closet that you can pair it with if it passes. Actually, even if it passes two of the threes, you're pretty good to go.
Well, Halle also talks about how to buy a season a year ahead. Which items won't go out of style, what are small to buy on a deep discount. So you can listen to the entire conversation on our mom Squad pod wherever you download our podcast or you can catch our streaming show on our WKYC streaming channel or on YouTube where I brought in some of my friends to talk about the items that they bought that are still just having tags hanging in their closet. Guilty as charmed or right? Because you're like, oh, this is a great deal. I'm gonna buy it. I'm just gonna buy it because it's so inexpensive. But how many items do you have, you out there, you sitting here that are just sitting still, not shamed with a tag. Yeah, completely ashamed. Yeah, that's a good word. Ashamed. And right now, every penny counts. I mean, when we're talking about trying to afford food and trying to afford gas. I was gonna say gas prices. Gas prices. I know. So Hallie has some great advice because it is an investment no matter what. So you want to invest wisely and you don't want to just waste your money. So. So I gotta start thinking now. Good advice. Three places to wear it, right? I thought that was a good. That was smart. I thought that was great advice. Yeah, that was a good one.
