More Style Q&A with 3News Style Contributor Hallie Abrams on Fashion Friday

A short YouTube Q&A segment (May 26, 2023) where 3News style contributor Hallie Abrams answers staff fashion questions. Key advice: wear pointier, less-clunky shoes with flared jeans to balance volume; wear patterns you love (camera considerations aside); and interpret 'dressy casual' as mixing dressy and casual elements (e.g., nice jeans with a sport coat or a suit with sneakers).

Well, we all know that styles are constantly changing and it's not. It can be. It is hard to keep up with all of it sometimes. And many 3News employees had questions about that.
So we Turn to our 3News style expert for answers. Here's part two of our Q and A with Hallie Abrams.
My question for Hallie is what kind of shoes should you wear with flared jeans? Oh, that is a good one. Flared jeans. Jeans are definitely gaining popularity because they get bigger at the bottom. I like to recommend that people wear something that's a little pointier and not quite as clunky. That way it balances sort of the wide with something a little more delicate and narrow. This is a great flare jean. It's a high waisted flare. And because they're wider at the bottom, even the shoe I'm wearing where I'm wearing it with a straight leg would look really good with a flare. It's a little pointed. There's a little bit of a. And there's a delicateness that balances the flare. Are there certain patterns that I should stay away from because they're too bold or too busy? If you love a pattern, you should wear a pattern. There is no such thing as too bold or too busy. If you love it. Now, that doesn't mean that your producer might not tell you that it doesn't look good on camera. That's a different story. But in terms of wearing it in life, I say wear it with confidence.
Okay. I think guys are always wondering when you see on an invitation, dressy casual, what does that mean, dressy casual for us?
Finally, the dress codes on invitations are so hard to interpret. Dressy casual is really. It's an oxymoron, right? Dressy casual, they don't necessarily go together, but the point of it is dressy clothes made more casual or your casual clothes made more dressy. Are you following or am I confusing you? Okay, so think about it. Your jeans, you're not gonna wear your gardening jeans to a party. Those are your casual, casual jeans. But your nice jeans that you wear out on a Saturday night, that's dressy casual. Or you would put jeans with a sport coat. That's dressy casual. Or you'd wear a suit with sneakers. That's dressy casual. It's taking the juxtaposition of something casual and something dressy, putting them together. That is dressy casual.
So my favorite thing to do in this segment is just watch Jay because.
He'S like, there's just so many rules.
He'S trying to interpret. Meanwhile, in the entire dressy casual discussion, I look over, he is dressing casual. You nailed it. You didn't even realize it.
Well, listen, I've been saying I don't have style, but that's my style.
You just nailed it.
It's, you know, party. Party. It's kind of like a mullet. It's party on the bottom, business on top.
Must be nice. I get yelled at for everything I wear, so should be easy peasy.
That's a beautiful denim sort of dress.
This is my country bumpkin look.
Well, I like it. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
