Letting your eye be able to rest visually within your home gives you that ease of mind and helps you maintain your lifestyle quickly, easily and seamlessly.
An organized and clutter free home is much more than surface deep.
So we say if your countertops and your spaces are clear, it helps clear up the mind.
Lisa Hudak, owner of the NEAT Method Cleveland, agreed to help me refresh my space and share some tried and true tips to help you get there too.
So in full disclosure, we we have done this before and while I do go into many people's closets, the actual organization it's not my lane.
And even though we have different areas of expertise, we've both seen the benefits of establishing systems you can stick to.
We find with our clients too. It really helps reduce the redundancy in purchasing because you have items that aren't expiring that are being shoved in the back of your pantry or clothing that isn't being worn.
The NEAT method involves four simple steps. First, remove everything.
So we're going to start with a section and go section by section, pull things out, assess and then decide what comes back.
A lot of times we have folks that are asking us, what do you guys think? And that's when we say, you need to call Hallie. She can really help you hone in on making sure you have that well appointed closet.
And I will tell you that on my website, the wardrobe consultant. There is a handy guide of if it should stay or if it should go.
Step two, Categorize and color code.
As we do that, we're also going to make it look pretty.
So one of our most basic closet tips that I think could be implemented in every closet across Cleveland is matching slimline hangers.
Lisa suggested turning these hangers toward me so I could better see my items.
And we also chose to move the T shirts here and move more of the longer sleeves over there.
We try to put things color coded by category so again you can quickly scan and see whatever type of item you're looking for.
Then it's all about containing.
One of our main tips and something that's easy for anyone to implement is leveraging baskets to contain your folded items. If you pull one here, you're not gonna mess up a whole stack and have this whole stack come tumbling down on you.
And finally, don't forget to label.
Also, it helps with any seasonal switches. Switch out the basket, switch out the label and the system stays in place. So it really helps you maintain it throughout the whole year.
Should we get to it?
Let's do it.
All right.
Other rules to live by.
If it doesn't make you feel good, it shouldn't be in your closet.
So one of our tips is to keep in every closet in your home a donation bin or a resale bin. Every time you are putting your laundry back or getting dress, you kind of are scanning your items and doing that ongoing purge so that you're making sure the closet doesn't kind of swell and get kind of out of hand.
And take it from me, whether you're doing it for yourself or bringing in the pros, spending time to get organized is so worth it.
It feels so good to have everything, like, aligned, clean, and organized and color coded again. So thank you.
Absolutely.
